This is the follow up with my previous post: Upgrading Vista 32 bit to Windows 7 64 bit in Inspiron 1520. link: en.community.dell.com/.../19657523
So with my newly purchased 750 GB hard drive I purchased from Dell, I finally decided to reinstall Vista, using the Re-installation CD that came with the Laptop.
I thought everything went well until it came to the updates that many of them failed and at restart I got the following error:
Windows Error Recovery
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1. Insert your windows installation disk and restart the computer (didn't work)
2. Choose your language settings etc. etc.
3. Click 'Repair your computer'.
Other options:
If power was interrupted during startup, choose start windows normally (this was not the case)
Safe mode
Safe mode with networking
Safe mode with command prompt
Last known good configuration
Start windows normally
None of these work. No matter what I do, it kept looping back to this. On two different occasions I did get back into Normal Windows and try to continue with the updates but of course once it restarted -the same problem. This time nothing is working and my screen is stuck on the Error Recovery.
Can the fact that I set up different partitions before installation has anything to do with this problem?
I created partitions as, 1. for OS 120GB, 2. for my docs etc. that's 300GB, 3. 150GB did not format it, and about 40 GB of unallocated space.
I also don't know whether or not Windows auto created any system partition. I didn't see any indication of that.
When Windows first launched, and while the updates were downloading, I was trying to install my Norton Anti-virus at the same time. It stopped and told me that it cannot continue because it needed at least Vista Service Pack 1 to install. I closed it then.
System is Dell Insp 1520, 32 bit
