Bizarre overheating(?) problem - need help!

I have a M1210 that suffers from frequent crashes - no drive activity,black screen, fan still runs, power light on, occasionally will reboot on it's own. I barely get 5 minutes before a crash.

The temps on the cpu, gpu, ram and chipset never get up to 40c. The fan works on low and high speed, and I usually have it set to run constantly, usually on high. I use 18kfangui to monitor and control.

If I set it on an external fan blowing into the fan vent, It will run for hours with no problem. I browsed to a streaming video news site and let it run for about 4 hours this morning. When I cut the external fan, even with the internal fan running on high and temps still low, it crashed after a few minutes.

I ran the full set of diagnostics on boot, and the full set on the Dell website. No problems found.

Any ideas?

I was one of the first purchasers of the new system, the highest and sought after dell xps13 9350 that came with the skylake family of processors, equipped with 16gb of ram and 1TB of ssd power.

I dished everything I have to purchase this piece of beauty. It is and still is wonderful and beautiful in every single way until you see the ugly side of marketing.

With battery on saver mode, and at 25% of brightness, with only wifi on and with only surfing to do. The first time the laptop blinked to power, without any other software or bloatware.

My laptop reads

91% battery life - 3 hours 45 minutes left

And then I thought wait wait a minute. THIS IS SKYLAKE, this is not the advertised 11hours, its an 18 hour upgraded system, they called it a whole day charge, a system you charged once and came home before bed to charge it again.

Then the technical assistant informs me, SIR, oh dear sir, your system carries a QHD, so basically we will slash the 18hours battery life advertised, to lets say 9 hours. wait a minute, did you just tell me that just by having QHD touch screen, my battery went in half?

Ok im fine with 9 hours, but my system can only run 4 hours max, at lowest settings. Tested 3 times in a row, for 3 consecutive charges. All have failed. We test 2 other systems, of the same specs, they failed too. 

My friends, we thought the battery life was something from the future, it was all lies. if you are very lucky, you might get 4 and a half hours. Our macbook air with the same settings can stay up to 13-14 hours, looping through dimmed videos.

I just bought the Skaylake special edition. I was told by the sales associate that it would work with it. However, it doesn't, and the machine does not show any HID complaint pen on the Device Manager. I have tested the pen on a HP Spectre, and it works amazingly well, so it's not the pen. Is there any hope that this is just a driver issue that can be addressed? This is a really big disappointment since the best review of this laptop (the MobileTechReview one) says that it works, and it doesn't.

I have an Inspiron 7537 running 8.1 and registered/reserved for Windows 10 3 months ago.

I have never received an email to update and whenever I hit the Windows 10 update icon in the tray I still get "We're validating Windows 10 for your PC" ... "OK, notify me when ready"

I can hardly believe this popular brand/model of laptop is not ready/tested for Windows 10. Is there a way to install it? Should I?

Can I replace my terrible keyboard from my 620 MT model with my old keyboard from B130 model? First,   I am pretty computer illiterate.  The cords do not have the same plug ins. Is it possible to adapt the B130 to fit or do I have to buy a new keyboard? If i can use it, do I have to change any settings on computer to make it compatible? Need advise in simple language.

I was hoping this wouldn't be an issue with the newer generation models, as it was my understanding this was fixed towards the end of the previous generation. Unfortunately, I have audible coil whine on my new XPS 15 9550 when plugged in to the charger. When disconnected from the charger, the whine goes away. It is most noticeable for me when scrolling in Chrome, as an example. KB backlight makes no difference. It does get slightly better when the battery is fully charged, but is still quite audible to me.

Is anybody else experiencing this with the Skylake models? I am extremely disappointed at this point, I like everything else about this laptop other than the coil whine and the webcam being at the bottom of the display (which I can live with, unlike the coil whine).

Hi Everyone,

I've tried everything I can think of and I can't get around what is causing this issue.

THE ISSUE:

I have an i7 Inspiron 7537 16gb RAM 256 SSD on Win10. The computer works fine while I'm working and performance is normal during normal operation however if I put the computer to sleep, hibernate or even SHUT DOWN and leave it for a while chances are that when I come back the fans will be on and the laptop chassis will be hot to touch. It doesn't happen every time, but it happens 90% of the time.

I've to bring this to college and carry it on my backpack sometimes just on a half an hour the laptop is very hot, even after being correctly shut down.

When this happens I can't wake the system up via keyboard or mouse inputs, I've to press the power button to completely shut down the system and then again to start it back up. The same happens if I'm working and abandon the laptop for an extensive period of time and it goes into hibernation, it doesn't come off it.

WHAT I'VE DONE SO FAR:

- Updated all drivers, BIOS, Chipset, GfX, LAN, etc

- Turned off all Wake on LAN features on Windows

- Turned all power management offers to power off

- Posted this message in despair

Thanks very much in advance to anyone that can shed a bit of light into this. I'd hate for the system to get damaged because of this.

Hello, 

I  encountred a real problem with the processor fan of my laptop,  it doesn't work , and when i launch the diagnostic, i get this :

error code :2000-0511

Msg:the preocessorfan failed to respond correctly.

 have you  encountered the same problem ?

what can I do in this case ?

My laptop has been plugged into your the charger all night, yet when I go to turn it on the battery light flashes orange and it simply will not even turn on. It is fully charged, so is this lilly to be an issue with the battery? I'm a uni student who REALLY needs her laptop for work so any help would be massively appreciated.

anyone else have this issue? I get the notification frequently in the bottom right corner and then it says its recovering.

The screen freezes for a few seconds but then it seems to work as normal after that.

This occurred about a week ago when I was just waking my computer from hibernation.  If I resume, the computer will continue to boot.  However, most of the memory has become unusable.  When I go to the properties of 'My Computer'  it says

Hello;

I have a Dell Latitude E6440 with 2 disks:

1)SSD 256 GB, windows pro 10 boot (c:\)

2)SSDHD 500 GB for documents (d:\)

 When I turn on the computer, after Dell logo I get message "Press ctrl i to enter configuration utility". Since I don't want to set up disks as RAID, How can I disable, hide or remove this message?

I would like Windows starts right after Dell logo, without any other messages.

My Dell charger stopped being recognized as a Dell charger but would still charge and work. But then it stopped even charging. I tested charger it is putting out proper voltage. I emptied static charges by holding down power button and tried the charger without the battery no go. The battery is dead so not sure if new battery would turn on computer. Suspect may be software problem I have Windows 8 but can't turn on to see though may try to buy new battery so can turn on and see. Any suggestion? Aloha James.

Hello, I've been having recent troubles when it comes to charging my pc, it's not charging at all. I've updated my BIOS, I've disabled and enabled ACPI-Complaint Control Method Battery and Microsoft AC Adapter and also uninstalled and reinstalled them, these solutions didn't work. When booting, my pc doesn't recognize the adapter (it's a 65w ac adapter and when booting, it says I have to use an adapter 65w or higher otherwise the battery won't charge), so I have to sit near an outlet with the adapter plugged into my pc otherwise the battery will drain and I won't be able to use it.

Help?

I know my battery life is depleting so maybe I have to replace it?

Supposedly when the computer/adapter/battery is too hot, there are signals sent that prevent the pc from charging so the battery doesn't get damaged, but I let my computer cool down after sometime. [:(] My adapter is fine, too, the pin is fine as is the brick and the cord.

I recently purchased a INSPIRON 15 5558 laptop, which included a backlit keyboard.

The issue is that there is no way to change the settings for this, I have searched in forums etc..  and the best I could find is that it should be in the windows mobility center, which it is not..  I also found that only  latitude and precision models include this setting...

Why sell a product with a feature same as other models but unable to chnge settings????

I have a brand new XPS13 running windows 10 home. What I would like to find out (NOT needed yet) is how do you boot to recovery mode (to take back to factory settings).

Any help would be great.
