Isperion 15 5000 series model 5558

Computer will not power up from charger or charge the battery which is now fully discharged. I did the battery reset and the charger is working properly. I tried a charger of the same specs as the original and it still does not power up. Is there anything else I can do to get this powered up. The laptop did run until the battery was discharged.

Dell has exchanged it for a new laptop, so no longer an issue with me, just hope new one is not a dud..

Bricked Vostro 5480 After BIOS Update Failure

Dear All,

I downloaded the latest BIOS file A05 dated Oct 5, 2015 from the Dell Support page for Vostro 5480.

During the update of the BIOS, the "erasing BIOS" stage went well without any problem. But the notebook hanged half way through the "writing BIOS" stage. I left the notebook in that state for more than 15 minutes before confirming that it was really not working. And I have to switch off the notebook by pressing the power button for more than 6 secs.

When I press the power button again, the power LED lit up but did not see the Dell logo at all, meaning there is no POST.

I have tried the steps mentioned elsewhere in this forum to reset the BIOS to no avail. I am also unable to locate any jumber on the motherboard for resetting the BIOS.

Does anyone else experience the same failure and how to recover from it? Any help or suggestion will be much appreciated. Thank you!

Regards,

Sean

Inspiron 17R, recently upgraded to win10 and now my laptop cannot detect wifi

So I have an Inspiron 17R and a D-Link DIR-815 dual band router. I have had no issues with any of my devices connecting to this internet connection up until I upgraded my laptop to windows 10 the other day. Since upgrading to windows 10, my laptop now can no longer detect my wifi SSID upon waking up from sleep mode. If I powercycle my router then my computer will see it and reconnect, but if I do not powercycle my router, it will not show up in my list of available connections. All of my neighbor's connections show up, so I know the laptop wifi antenna is working. All of my multiple other devise (TV, Blu-Ray player, 3 cell phones, xbox one, etc) all stay connected during this and have no issues. Again this problem did not happen before windows 10 upgrade (had windows 8.1 before). Rebooting the laptop doesn't work either. They only thing I have found so far to fix it is powercycling my D-Link router. I have logged in and tried to see if any settings were reset and they are not, I have gone in to my network adapter and diagnosed during "lost" connection and it thinks there is no issue. I have disabled and reenabled my wifi adapter, nothing whatsoever. I hope someone here knows what's going on because I am at a loss and am getting increasingly frustrated to have to keep powercycling my router.

Keyboard issues - Dell Inspiron 13 7000 Special Edition, 13 Inch 2-in-1

When in tablet mode, when I click on a text box (e.g. address bar of web browser like Google or Mozilla), the touchscreen keyboard does not pop up.

I have to exit Tablet Mode and manually select Touchscreen keyboard from the tray.

Is this an oversight by Dell or just an issue with my machine?

Please reply as soon as possible.

Thanks!

DELL INSPIRON 17R-7720 No Post, No Dell Logo, No boot, Black screen? Bad Motherboard?

Hello All,

I am currently trying to help out someone that owns a Dell Inspiron 17R-7720 laptop. It was working fine then one day they went to turn it on and it doesn't want to post/boot. The power light comes on, and the 3 button lights it the top left of the keyboard area light up and turn off but that is it. I get no post, no dell logon, and the screen doesn't seem to do anything. It doesn't attempt to shut off it just sits there and doesn't do anything else.

Now when I hold down the D button and press the power button, the screen test comes on so I know the screen is working. I also hooked it up to a VGA monitor but nothing.

I pulled out the battery and all of the parts (hard drives, etc) from the laptop and still nothing. The only thing that changes is when I remove the ram, I get 2 beeps which indicates a ram issue. When I reinstall the ram, the laptop doesn't give me any beeps what so ever.

So I am unsure what to do now? I would assume there must be an issue with the motherboard and I would have to replace it? Its such a sin being the laptop was only used for 1 year and stopped working suddenly.

The laptop had Windows 7 and the Intel i7 processor.

Replace HD with SSD in Inspiron 11 3147 - Windows 10 wont see the SSD in AHCI mode

I want to replace the HD in my Inspiron 11 3147 with a 250GB SSD. I decided to do a fresh install of Windows 10 using a USB drive I created on another PC (maybe this was the root cause). Short version: Win 10 wont see this drive in AHCI mode.

During the Win 10 install it wouldnt see the new SSD. I could see the SSD in the bios, and found that if I switched to ATA mode from AHCI Win 10 install would see it and I could proceed.

When the install finished I logged in Windows was really strange - desktop only, no tiles, start button didnt work. The only thing I could interact with was recycle bin. I was able to open recycle bin navigate to my USB drives and apply the Dell drivers (chipset, video, etc). It was still hosed.

Just to validate the hardware was proper I installed Ubuntu with the bios set to AHCI and it worked perfectly. Unfortunately my daughter needs MS Windows for school so I have to get Win 10 going.

So I replaced the SSD with the old HD. I went ahead and created a new recovery USB from Win 10 on this laptop. My hope is this will include the Dell drivers? AHCI has been around for a while so I shouldnt need a special driver for Win 10.

I really dont want to open this thing up more than I have to so any advice is appreciated.

Thanks!

Hard Drive Failure

So back in September I got the dreaded blue screen of death with an error message, and when I brought my computer in to Best Buy they told me my hard drive had failed and I would need a new one. After they spent a week replacing it it worked fine, up until last week when I got a new blue screen of death with a kernel data inpage error. It resolved itself, and after I ran diagnostic tests offered through Dell I learned that my hard drive has failed again and I need to replace it.

Is it common to have this happen? Should I bother replacing the hard drive or just buy a new laptop? I can't afford to replace the hard drive every 2 months.

Vostro 3750 - Strange USB Problem - Restarting attached USB flash drive every 5 minutes on its own

Hi I am having the above strange problem that started only a few days ago. Before this, it was working perfectly/normally.

My USB setup:

1) 4 port (self powered) usb hub connected to usb 2.0 port

2) another 6 port usb hub (ac powered) connected to the 4 port usb hub. this one has logitech unifying adapter & a usb adapter for calculator attached, with 4 empty ports free. Free ports mainly for flash drives, etc.

3) everything connect without problems normally.

A few days ago, whenever I attach a flash drive, the drive would disconnect & reconnect at an interval of 5 minutes. When it reconnects on its own, windows explorer will open to show contents of drive. This drives me crazy!

I tried the following fixes but have been unsuccessful:

1) tried going to Device Manager and turning off the "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" - not successful.

2) tried different usb ports - not successful.

3) tried connecting 6 port usb hub directly to computer's usb port (without connecting to 4 port hub) - not successful.

4) tried method no. 3 on a different usb port directly on computer - not successful.

5) tried a brand new usb hub using methods 2, 3 & 4 - not successful.

6) tried connecting the flash drive(s) directly to computer (without hub) - not successful.

7) tried using different flash drives(s) using methods 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 - not successful.

8) reviewed my windows update; I updated only the Office 2013 updates components on 16 Oct 2015 and everything was working fine. Have not done any windows security updates yet. Therefore I don't think the Office updates has any effect on this problem.

All of a sudden my usb port/hub seems to have a life on it's own, resetting/restarting in intervals of 5 minutes! I don't know what to do. Please help!

Dell Inspiron 14R laptop not recognizing KM113 dongle

Hello there,

I bought a Dell KM113 Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Combo from SNAPDEAL.COM with one year warranty. However when I try to connect the dongle to the DELL Inspiron 14R laptop to use the keyboard/mouse, first the dongle is not detected and the kb/mouse is not working. Could it be problem with the drivers ?

My USB ports are working fine, as I am able to connect external hard drive.

The KM113 product is also working fine, as I have tested with another laptop(Packard Bell laptop).

Kindly help me to resolve the issue.

Thank & Regards,

Gangadhar

Laptop running extremely slowly

Hi, I have a Dell XPS L501X, running Windows 7 Professional

It stopped working the other day, with a blank screen. I had been away from the desk for a number of hours, so don't know if it was doing anything when it stopped.

I've tried to restart it a number of times in the last couple of days, without success. At various times it has come up with different startup options, but the most common one is the repair option. It just seems to go into an endless loop if you select this option.

I've also tried to start in safe mode, but no success.

At one stage it came up with a restore option in the repair process, but nothing happened when I took that option.

This afternoon I've let it start Windows normally, about 3 hours ago. It has just come up with the screen to select the user to log in as...so its looks like it is working, but extremely, extremely slowly.

Any advice more than welcome.

Thanks,

Tracey

There was no sound from my laptop( inspiron N 5010) for any of the video files. So following some random surgeons I went on to check my bios.I don't know what I did in the bios setting but after that I haven't been able to access my laptop. It asks for a system password. Neither F2 not F12 works. After 3 attempts it shuts down automatically. Please help...!
