Hello,
I have been rocking my Dell XPS 13 laptop since June, and so far I really don't have any complaints with the PC itself (OS on the other hand....). However, one thing that hasn't really worked at all since day one is utilizing Bluetooth while my Wireless is enabled.
So far from testing I have found out:
*Both Bluetooth and Wifi enabled = Intermittent packet loss for both connections.
*Either one disabled = The enabled hardware works as intended.
Here's a scenario I just did testing out the performance both while streaming music over bluetooth, and while not streaming over bluetooth, here are my bizarre results:
Streaming a 6minute song when performing a SpeedTest at: http://www.speedtest.net/
- Initial Ping: 23ms
- Download Speed Result: 0.08Mbps
- Upload Speed Result: 0.69Mbps
Results of Speedtest while not streaming anything over Bluetooth:
- Initial Ping: 12ms
- Download Speed Result: 10.77Mbps
- Upload Speed Result: 5.97Mbps
Simple PING test (count:50) to Google.com while streaming audio over Bluetooth:
Ping statistics for 173.194.33.135:
Packets: Sent = 50, Received = 42, Lost = 8 (16% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 10ms, Maximum = 3051ms, Average = 355ms
Simple PING test (count:50) to Google.com while not streaming audio over Bluetooth:
Ping statistics for 173.194.33.160:
Packets: Sent = 50, Received = 46, Lost = 4 (8% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 8ms, Maximum = 455ms, Average = 28ms
(To be fair, I almost always get a few dropped packets when looking at network traces, but for the most part with general use I can never tell it happens).
All of these tests were done without me moving my laptop. Router is 10feet away, with nothing obstructing between the laptop and the router.
Few things to note:
I see significant performance impact when doing even the simplest task that requires an Internet Browser. However, small Pings results in less performance impact.
When I look at perfmon, oddly enough Windows says Bluetooth is "Not Connected" so I can't see how much data is being transferred. No idea why.
Specs/Drivers:
OS: Windows 8.1, fully patched as of 09/23/2015
DW1560 Bluetooth 4.0 LE. version: 12.0.1.330 (Date: 3/17/2015)
Dell Wireless 1560 802.11ac. Version: 6.30.223.262 (Date: 3/12/2015)
Again, it seems that the wifi network adapter itself works fine. Once I try to stream anything over Bluetooth, then start to transfer data over wifi, I see significant packet loss. It makes using Bluetooth impossible unless I disable my wifi.
I appreciate any assistance with this. I doubt I'm the only one running into this issue, but I couldn't find any solutions, or fixes to any other posts remotely related to this.
Thanks.
