my laptop is old.. Dell Inspiron 1564, the touchpad has been in and out for a little while now, sometimes getting stuck and i gotta kinda rub on it or push into it kinda harder to get it unstuck..

today though, it worked about hours ago, put my comp to sleep, and now it wont work at all. it has gone dead like this before once in awhile, but i just restart my computer and its all good.. now that isnt working.

Device Manager shows NOTHING under "Mice and other pointing devices", and installing the Alps driver from Dell's website gives me an error saying Windows 10 doesnt support this app.. yet I've had Windows 10 now for over a month and it has worked all the way until today.

any ideas? every site i have that has this problem, the solution is to uninstall the drivers for the touchpad.. but those dont even show up, even when i've found some that successfully install and bypass the "windows 10 doesnt support this app" error, they dont ever show up in device manager.

Hello everyone,

I researched extensively and considered my options before I bought my xps 12, it really seemed like the best option for me back in 2013. I went all out and got the top specs i7 version. A couple of months into having the laptop I started noticing touchpad issues and wi-fi signal problems. I downloaded the latest drivers for both and it seemed to fix the issues somewhat. A few months after that, I accidentally bent the charging port which affected the dc charger, I was still able to charge the laptop but when I plugged in the charger it was a bit wobbly when inserted all the way. I started getting "The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge." I bought a new charger from amazon but this didn't fix the issue. I then bought a new dc jack and installed it myself, it wasn't hard however I stripped the screws a bit. The newly installed DC jack also did not fix the issue and yes I tried both chargers. I am also experiencing this issue where if I rest the full weight of the laptop on itself (normal laptop position or tablet mode) the touchscreen and touch pad will go crazy and not register touches or register multiple touches making it impossible to do anything. To top it all off I also had most of my data and apps deleted randomly after installing Windows 8.1 and was not able to access apps after that, I did a system restore which fixed the issue.

I recently saw a notification on it telling me the battery needed to be replaced and now I am sitting with the dilemma of whether or not I should change it, the replacement batteries cost $100+ and I mentioned I stripped the screws a bit already which is going to make things a lot harder. I could also send it to dell which I'm sure would cost me at least $200. This laptop has caused me so much frustration and aggravation, that I am not sure it would be worth spending more money and time on it. I recently purchased a Chinese tablet for about $130 shipped that runs both android and windows and it blows my mind how much faster and smoother it is compared to my top of the line XPS 12 which I paid $1300+ for. I am not usually the complaining type but I am sooooo disappointed with my purchase and definitely would not ever buy a dell again and much less recommend it to others without an extended warranty.

Dell Latitude E6420 Freezing

I bought Dell Latitude E6420 few months ago.

It had a severe problem of freezing (I believe it was due to too much CPU Usage since I upgraded to Windows 10 and was using chrome), and I wasn't even able to move my mouse. It happened frequently and it never unfroze

Now what's happening is that it freezes when I'm not even working on anything, and while I am able to move my mouse, nothing really happens. I press windows button yet the windows tab doesn't come out. I can't access to folders or anything.

I thought it may have been SSD problem so I bought another one, but the screws are stripped and I'm not sure how to unscrew them without damaging anything.

Any guess on what's going on and what I can do to fix my computer?

I have upgraded my laptop from Windows 7 to Windows 10. During the procedure a screen showed that Dell Access had to be removed before Windows 10 could be installed.

It was removed, and everything else went smoothly.

Now during logon, at the login screen, the system will take a while to initialize, and say "Failure to initialize". Luckily I am able to login using a password.

I want to use the fingerprint reader to login. Dell says that this system have no issues with upgrading to Windows 10, but not now. So how can I solve this problem?

I will like to do either the following:

1. Get the fingerprint reader working.

2. If it cannot work, I want the logon screen to stop trying to initialize and just use password to logon.

Also, I am getting 2-3 nos of the same user on the login screen. There is only 1 user on this computer but I see mostly 2 but sometimes 3 of the same on the lower left of the logon screen. I also want to remove the extras. Not an issue, but I think it may be related to the above as well.

Hello,

I am using dell inspiron 15 3542, with windows 10 Pro. I am facing problems mentioned above.

I have already tried these things,

1) unistall 3-Intel softwares.

2) Removing battery and pressing power button for 50Sec.

3) Flashing A02 bios from A08

But stills doesnt feel like fixing.

I am really annoyed with this problem, please send me solution as early as possible.

If anybody could help, i will be so much thankful. I have Dell XPS L502X laptop 3 years. With laptop i've got second battery, but recently when I used it for the first time, I found out the battery doesn't charge at all (0% avaible, plugged in, not charging). Have you got any idea how solve this problem? Thank you!

Mostly the battery drains totally to 0%.

When i try to turn on the computer (after plugging it of course) the button does not regularly work. First I am pusshing it about 8-10 seconds (like forced to shut down).

After that I can open the computer normally. But the battery is totally empty.

On the Dell XPS 13, I'd like to be able to access the context menu (for example correcting spelling mistakes) without lifting my hands from the keyboard.

Tantalisingly, the icon appears on the right ctrl button.

However, I cannot find any key combination which actually appears to activate it... was hoping Fn + right shift, but that doesn't work.

Any ideas on what the correct combination would be ?

Dear Sirs

Purcahased Dell Laptop in July 2012 Inspiron 5520 with windows 7. Later upgraded to 8.1 pro. when it was rolled out during Oct 2012. Came to know that windows 10 can be downloaded when the same was launched on Juy 29th. I have made an reservation also and windows icon is appearing in the task bar. When i clicked, it said, you will be notified shortly. Till this time no notification received. Can any one help me why i am not getting the windows 10 notification when i have licensed version of Windows 7 and later upgraded to 8.1pro.

Recently , for the past 3 or 4 months, unable to update windows , the details are below

KB3087916; KB3004365; KB3069114; KB3078601; KB3078601; KB3089023; KB2976978; KB3044374; KB3077715; KB3083325.

Pl help/suggest how to update the above. Will there be any interlink for not receiving notification for free download windows 10. I have also tried through trouble shooting mode but no result.

For past 2 days facing the battery drain issue. Charged fully upto 100% at night and when i powered on in the next morning it displayed critical battery, connect to the charger.. I think battery calibration would work but can anyone help how to do it??

Running on W10 OS. Haven't had issue on W8/8.1.

Hello guys, sup ?!

well i just has installed a clean windows 8.1 a few days ago, i faced a problem with my CPU performance. i have core I5 2410m 2.3GHz. the cpu act on 0.76GHz always.

i checked my BIOS and i just disable the intel speedstep, actually it helped a bite. my CPU went to wrok on 2.3GHz but with no turbobost (until 2.9GHz). but for mean while its better for me like this, but i wish to find an answer here.

usually when i start the laptop the cpu works fine it goz until 2.9GHz, but 2 min latter it stuks on 0.76GHz (before i disable the INTEL Speedstep).

I checked my power management, everything is fine, max performance is on 100%, max power performance plan is selected

all drivers are up to date. so i guess this is bite wearied isnt it ?!

Since shortly after buying my Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop, I can get online with the wireless only. I cannot use the hard-wired ethernet connection. If I turn off the wireless, I cannot find a way to get online.

On the device manager, there are two listed. Wireless Network Connection Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN and Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter. There is no yellow exclamation point.

The network connections screen shows 2 devices. First is Wireless Network Connection Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card with all green bars lighted.

Second is Wireless Connection 2 Not Connected Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter with all green bars lighted and a bold red X. When I right click on this, it shows enabled. Under Properties/Networking/Configure it shows "This device is working properly."

Any ideas?

Hi everyone!

I just bought a dell 5558. Installed windows 8. Everything seems to be working fine except for the touchpad. Its functions of moving the cursor & selecting text are working fine but all other gestures are not working at all! (Especially, the left click is causing a lot of trouble)

I tried to install the driver from here (the one titled as "Mouse, Keyboard & Pointing devices" but couldn't finish it as it asks for "Unifying Receiver"; which I don't have).

I've searched through the community but the answers aren't clear enough to follow. Can anyone from the dell help me solve the issue?

Any sort of help would be greatly appreciated!
