Recently purchased this machine, within the last month, and Dell sold with Win 8.1 with free upgrade to 10.  For whatever reason all other 13" Inspiron 2 in 1's were coming loaded with Windows 10.  I figured no big deal, would upgrade as soon as I got the machine and that's what I did.

Machine has x3 USB ports and recently one has stopped working.  I get an error message whenever I plug anything (mouse dongle, iPhone cable) into the laptop.  And these are known working devices.  

The error message is "The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it.  Recommendation:  Try reconnecting the device.  If Windows still does not recognize it, you device may not be working properly."  

Dell call in service people updated all applicable drivers and the BIOS to no avail.  Now they want me to send the machine into the depot and have told me that the depot people will likely revert me to Windows 8.1.  Which I don't want to have happen.  Why would I but a new machine and load with an old OS?

So I'm wondering if anyone else has had this issue.

Also, can the "sending the machine in" program be trusted to work?  

This 8.1 to 10 issue feels like a *** and switch.  The machine was marketed online as being 10 compatible.  All other similar machines were shipping with 10 installed for goodness sake!

I just got my new laptop and stylus is. So far I love the laptop but the stylus will not work.  I have checked the battery, its fine.

Is there any special software I need?

Also I have seen that there is a Rev A03 out yet I was shipped a Rev A00. Is there a major difference between them?

I tried to access the Technical Support but could not find a service tag.

Hello

For starters sorry for my English.

I have a problem updating the BIOS in the Inspiron 17R SE 7720 from A14 to A17.
A month ago I updated to Windows 10 and yesterday by chance I noticed that in my second GeForce 650M graphics card does not work under Windows.

I have read that the updated BIOS to the latest version should help. I downloaded the latest BIOS A17 but unfortunately in the process of updating each time the same error message pops up: ERROR 216 - failed to read the BIOS from rom status = 1604. Both under Windows and DOS.
I also tried to upgrade to A15 but there is the same error.

Has anyone had a similar problem? Please help

With most Windows users upgrade their system to Windows 10, a small part of them don't like Windows 10. Because there are much problems about Windows 10, such as Windows blue/black screen to death, Windows 10 crashing and freezing and so on. So they want to downgrade Windows 10 to Windows 8.1, how can we do that?

Mechanically..the keys are ok.  Something disabled the keys.  Is there an easy fix?  I am an average user..and am not an expert.  The reason I want to use the Fn+F3 is to disable the *** touchpad on my laptop.  Until last week, everything was okay,,,but something may the disable thing disappear.  My reason to disable the touchpad is to allow me to use the keyboard without the touchpad screwing my my type.  I write and want no interference by my accidental brushing the pad with the heel of my palms.  I do have touchfreeze..but it appears to not be very helpful.  I just want to download something to activate the Fn+F3 function key that is currently dead, dead, dead.[:@]

Hi,

I have an Intel i3 N5010 Inspiron laptop with default SMART 3 GB RAM and WIndows 7 x 64 installed. I'd like to upgrade to 6 GB, so I would replace the slot with 1GB for a 4GB one. 

I wonder if the memory offered by Kingston (4GB 1333mhz DDR3 kvr13s9s8/4 part number) is supported. How can I know for sure?

DELL: inspiron-15-3521
Bought with Windows 8, recently upgraded to W8.1, then W10.
In W8 & W8.1, starting with F12 allowed selecting boot from DISC drive.
In Win10, no longer see that choice. {I don't know how Win version affected setup.}
I see Boot UEFI, secure boot on, no DISC choice, and "Boot Manager" does not offer.
Also, setup did not let me choose boot priority of DISC, then disk-drive.
DISC boot is needed for emergency restores, Windows or Macrium-Reflect.

(It used to be easy to set DISC boot priority before disk-drive.)

Hi, I had to reinstall Windows 7 on my Dell Inspiron N7110
There were no device drivers on the disc containing the operating system so I cannot connect to the Internet. Advice from friends is to download the drivers on to my desktop (which is not a Dell) and then move them from there with a memory stick and install them in to my laptop.
"It's easy" , they said. Well, my experience for the past several days is that I'm going around in circles. The drivers are on the Dell website alright, but it keeps wanting to scan my computer and install them, which obviously won't help because the computer I'm accessing the site with is not the computer I want them installed on.
Can anyone help me simply get the drivers and put them on my hard drive so I can mover them over to my laptop?

So the old Dell1737  refused to boot and after much flakiness, what the heck I thought, I've got a left over Toshiba hard drive with Win 10 on it from my Toshiba Satillite L645, Intel Core 3 2.4 gig system. So I popped it in and bingo, it lives again. The only issue I can see is that it now thinks its my Toshiba, but if that doesn't burn it down I guess I'm good to go. Any feed back from people that acutaly Know what they're doing?

Hello,

i recently bought a new Dell Inspiron 3542 but i returned it to the shop because sometimes it won't turn on and sometimes the fan didn't stop working after a full shut down.

They gave me another one but it sometimes won't power on too.

This happens very often! Sometimes it won't turn on after going to sleep mode and sometimes it won't turn on after a full shut down (fan stops working in that case on the new one). 

I have to hold the power button for around 10 seconds and then try again to power it on. When i press it the second time, the laptop power on.

I have windows 10 64bit and i'm gooing to install windows 8.1 and windows 7 to try if this is some hardware problem.

I really thought that DELL are one of the best and proven for high quility, but maybe i was wrong and will never buy another one.

Please, i spent all my savings and this is not acceptable. Can anyone help me solve this matter???

I installed Windows 10 since July 28th, 2015 on my Dell XPS 14 (L421x) and it have been working fine. Since a few days, my touchpad started to acting weird, sometimes I cannot highlight text, I cannot drag file on the desktop, etc... I did update the drivers from Dell Support page but still not as it should be.

 

Any known issues ref. Windows 10 affecting the touchpads...? or any possible solution for this...?

We've all been around older or newer things. I've got this old machine as payment for a work (client wanted to destroy it). It's luckily (for me) the 965GM version, and I feel like prettying it up as I don't need something extremely powerful for portable use. several users have confirmed that I can install a Core 2 Duo T9500 and 4GB of 800MHz DDR2 RAM in it. What I can't dig myself through is the caddy size, and this is where I need assistance: what's the largest height hard drive I can fit in this old machine?

I bought the laptop 6 months back ( Inspiron 15 5547 ) and the right hinge is making a cracking sound when opening and closing the lid. This seems to be a manufacturing defect as so many people are having the same issue and dell is not ready to  acknowledging it. This type of cheap hardware should be covered by the basic warranty and not be accidental warranties.

After spending $800 to buy the laptop this is not what we expect to hear from Dell that its not covered by the warranty and will only be covered by accidental warranty. $800 purchase should last for years to come.

  I will be reporting this issue to the *** so that they know what is going on and how DELL is handling such issues.

Hey Robin (I've seen you've been able to help a lot of other folks on here)

I purchased a brand new dell inspirion 7352 just 2 weeks ago. Every time I got to use it the battery is dead and recently i found after taking it out of the case it was really hot and turns out the fan was still running even though the laptop had been shut down.  

I'm needing help determining if and how I install new drivers to correct the issue.  Please help.

hi every body I have the laptop mentioned above its motherboard corrupted because of electrical high votage and I repaired the device and work ok but the problem with the battery suddenly the laptop shutdown although the battery charged about 90% and pluged in to ac adapter is there any solution? I want to say that the laptop sometimes give me 3 hours on battery (after repaired)

i change my driver from a hdd to a ssd. did a clean install on the ssd, and now the problem is that it takes so long for bios to find the ssd. probebly goes over other options! my boot mode is on UEFI and i installed the windows 8.1 64 bit as a UEFI version on my ssd with dell USB. i dont know how to my SSD as the first (primary) hard and not the third drive.
