Notification of update won't go away

$

Periodically I find a small (about 1.5x0.5 inches) white little text window in the upper left corner of my screen, saying, "Dell Update/Your system is up to date/Last scan (date)/Next scan(date).

The Last scan date will be the current day, the Next scan will be three days away.  The little window has no border or anywhere to click on it to get rid of it, and behaves as if it is not there - if I hover or click on it it activates whatever is under it.  However, since I cannot move it or make it go away, I can't tell what IS under it.

As usual, right now it is covering up the first 1.5 inches of my address field in Firefox, so if I want to see what is there/what I'm typing I have to resize/move my browser window (not a trivial amount of screen to lose on a laptop).  This thing eventually goes away by itself, but I have no way to know when that will happen.

This is really infuriating, and appears to be some kind of fault in the program, SURELY nobody intended it to work this way.  Can you help me find a way to make the thing vanish?  When I open the Dell Update and Recovery program it has no helpful information, not even any way to track updates that I can see, which I would much prefer to this annoying and useless little obstacle.

Thanks.

Mary

Inspiron 3521 not turning on

$

Hi all

I'm new to this forum and really hoping that someone could help me with my particular problem. Recently I've been experiencing issues while starting my laptop (Dell Inspiron 3521), I hear the system start up, but the screen remains black and I get a single intermittent beep. having searched the internet I've learnt that this single beep is the code for a checksum error. so I took my laptop to a technician here in Spain and they, after about a week of checking have come back and told me that its a motherboard fault and that I would have to replace the motherboard. Now I'm no computer genius so please forgive my ignorance but surely if the motherboard was faulty I would not be able to turn the laptop on at all? Well I took my laptop home, plugged it in and attempted to turn it on, nothing but black screen and beeps. I removed the battery and attempted again, same result. Replaced the battery and on about the forth or fifth attempt the laptop turned on. Does anyone have any suggestions, I'm all ears.

Thanks in advance

I had this problem once before, and it took several times of uninstalling and reinstalling to get my networking drivers installed properly. About a month ago I upgraded this computer to windows 10 before the final release, and I've still been having issues. All of a sudden when installed the new network drivers my bluetooth drivers disappeared, and now I can't use bluetooth. My laptop model is a Dell Inspiron 3541.

Hello, i'm noob here so just want to ask to the point:

1. Some sites said that Dell Vostro 5470 had mini PCIe port for SSD. Is that true?. Because I got confused by mini mSata and mini PCIe. So exactly what port exist in Vostro 5470 and max ssd capacity that can be handled?

2. I want to upgrade RAM for higher spec. I read in some topics in this forum that max capacity is 8 GB. My question is can I upgrade it to 8 GB with higher class than native memory (PC3-12800)?

3. Can I replace existing hdd (500 GB 5400 rpm) with 1 TB 7200 rpm?

Sorry for my bad english

Dell Studio 1535 - Dark/Dimmed Screen

I appreciate your response.

I have had this laptop for few years, no problem at all.

the screen started to lose the back light gradually time to time and it is now gone. I can still see the dimmed shadow of the screen.

I can use an external monitor , no problem.

I read different solutions and I checked loose cable connections and I also changed the inverter.

once I changed the LCD inverter, I got the screen back for few minutes then I was hearing a buzzing noise from the laptop, most likely from the new inverter. and the screen back light gone again.

I do not want to pay for the new LCD if the problem is the supply feed from main board.

Any suggestion ?

Thanks

Issue with Dell hardware change in the same Model (or Example “Latitude E7450)

We are facing very big problem in related with Dell Hardware changes in the same models. Problem is very complicated, let me describe this here.

Step1-: We use the SCCM OSD task sequences to install the laptops and desktops.

Step2-: When dell releases any new model (Laptop or Desktop) we purchase that from dell to check its compatibility with our SCCM OSD build.

Step3-: We download the available drivers from Dell Website for that model, import them to SCCM, create driver packages and adds them in SCCM OSD task sequences. Sometime Dell “Drivers.cab” may consist drivers which does not work fine with SCCM, when we manually install those drivers from Setup.exe then they works fine but when we imports those drivers .INF in SCCM and install them then it crash the OS installation.

Step4-: we have to test all driver installation in through SCCM OSD task sequence and if any of the drivers does not work, then we check with dell and Dell provides us the SCCM compatible versions and we use that. Ultimately it is a time taking process.

Step5-: After all hue and cries we prepares a working package of all drivers for a particular model by which all available hardware can be installed during SCCM OSD installation. Then we release that working SCCM Task Sequence which has the integration of working driver set in production and it uses on all our sites (more than 250 sites globally.)

Step6-: Earlier, When Dell Changes the hardware it used to change the model number and our practice (Step1 to step5) was working fine.

But since last one year Dell is changing the hardware in the existing models, for Example “Latitude E7450-: When I purchased this laptop two month back it was having different hardware, and when I am purchasing same model now, it has changed hardware.”

I released a drivers set for the model (Latitude E7450) which I purchased earlier but that drivers set is not working on the same model of laptop which are being purchase recently SCCM build fails/crash in between when it install old drivers on recently purchased model.

Again we take the same model in Lab and repeat the steps1 to step 5. But we are not sure till when this is going to work because Dell is changing the hardware in same model again and again without a prior notification of model version change.

We are facing same challenge in the below given models.

Laptop

Latitude E7450

Latitude E7440

Latitude E7240

Latitude E6540

Desktop

OptiPlex 9020

OptiPlex 3030

Workaround-: we downloaded the new updated drivers from Dell site and installed manually for these models and it worked, but we cannot do this work manually for each and every laptop of this model being purchased.

Questions from Dell-: We are facing this challenge regularly with Dell systems. Dell is changing hardware in the same model after a significant time. This time we faced this problem in India.

1-: Can we expect a solution from Dell?

2-: Is Dell changing their approach and can change hardware in any model any time. This is regularly happening after the release of E7440. Many models of dell have the changed hardware if we compare them with the same model releases earlier.

3-: How can we approve a model for global use? If hardware will be changed without changing the model number. Is there a best practice or a better approach. We ask Dell to provide their suggestions.

Input power spec for Inspiron 11-3148 laptop

$

I'm looking for the input DC voltage and amperage of the Inspiron 11-3148 laptop (NOT the power adapter for the laptop).  This information can easily be found on the stickers on the underside of the laptop, so I would appreciate it if any owner of one of these laptops could please post this information.

Unfortunately, the specs listed on Dell's website only include the output power specification for the power adapter, not the input power specs of the laptop (which may be different).

Dell sales and technical support were both unable to provide me with this information, and suggested that I either purchase the laptop or find someone who already owned one of these laptops to check.  We're planning to use this laptop with some very specific equipment, and so need the input power specs of the laptop itself (again, not the power adapter) before purchasing.

Thanks in advance for your help!

My Dell suddenly said your system experienced problem and will restart. It never restarted. Whenever I turn the laptop on it the screen is black and makes 7 beeps. A lot of my important data is in that laptop and I am extremely worried what to do. And from what I've seen,  hundreds of people are facing the same problem, so who is to blame here? Dell has lost respect in my eyes

BIOS problem after Windows 10 upgrade

I need to boot my Inspiron 17r from the cd/dvd. Dell shows how to change BIOS for Win 8 but this does not work in Win 10. When does Dell intend to upgrade BIOS so that an owner doesn't have computer which won't work with Win 10 and might as well be a door stop. Windows 10 is just another Microsoft system designed to further confuse the user base.
