My Laptop is Dell Inspiron 3542(Service Tag: 3Y1M912). I replaced the Optical Disk Drive of my laptop by a SSD using a caddy. Caddy and SSD working just fine as I can access my SSD when I boot from my primary(internal) HDD.

Whenever I try to boot from my SSD, it does not get detected by Dell BIOS!I tried all the BIOS mode(Legacy, UEFI) and tried all possible combination of boot priorities with no luck. Even I tried different OS(Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Linux Mint), that did not work either.

I suppose it is a bug of the BIOS otherwise Dell does not want to support this feature that is why they turned it off permanently. FYI, I'm using the BIOS with updatte A06. I know there is an A08 BIOS update, I read many people are facing serious problem with it so I didn't tried to update the BIOS till now. Is it possible for me to boot from my SSD?

Hi,

I bought Dell Studio 1558 mode laptop at the year 2011. Now i am facing internal hard drive memory space crunch issue. Unfortunately while creating partition i have give 50GB for windows partition, now it is running out of space. Other partitions also filled by more than 50%. So i wanted to upgrade the internal hard drive to 1TB. Present hard drive model is WDC WD5000BEVT-75A0RT0. I found from WDC website the equivalent 1TB hard disk part number is WD10JPVT. Please suggest me whether the part number i have selected the right one or not. Also, where can i download the drivers for that.

Will a latitude 5450 work with a 331-6304 dock? Or more precisely should it take a charge from the dock? I tried connecting and it seems to receive power button input but the laptop says it is not plugged in.

My system is dell inspiron 13 7348. My windows 10 admin account was locked. meaning i forgot the password.

laptop does not have optical drive. i tried to boot from USB flash drive but i was unable to even boot from usb.

i tried lot of options/Softwares to unlock it but can't be able to unlock. please let me know what needs to be done to resolve the issue

Have a Dell Latitude E6400. The battery icon in the lower right-hand corner says "100% available, plugged in, charging." But, when I disconnect the power cord, my computer shuts off within seconds, so my computer isn't using the battery juice. Have the latest BIOS. Any ideas, anyone?

video issue with several new Latitude 3450 laptops

My company recently purchased some new Latitude 3450 laptops (DELL part number 0TM2W6) with Windows 7, and I am having a strange video issue with each of them that is an intermittent problem.

The problem is: when I turn them on, the Windows 7 boot up splash screen ("Starting Windows")appears as usual, but at the point it is supposed to play a startup sound and show me the Windows 7 login screen, I hear the startup sound but the login screen never appears; the laptop is powered up but there is no video. When this happens, to get the video to appear, I can actually lift the laptop off the table and turn it slightly sideways, and the video appears.

The problem is intermittent, meaning that sometimes I have the above problem and other times they boot and show the video. The only clue that I can offer is I noticed that the laptops don't always show the opening DELL logo when I turn them on. It seems to be that whenever I turn them on and I see the DELL logo, everything works just fine. When I turn them on and I don't see the DELL logo, I do indeed have the video problem.

I have upgraded some of them to the newer A06 bios, but that did not resolve the problem.

I am hoping that there are some DELL support staff that see this post and have heard of this issue before. I am thinking it is a product defect with a certain batch of these laptops.

Hello, I have a Dell inspiron 660 desktop. And I have had some issues with it. The main one being that it had a crash of some kind and I thought that it fixed itself. Well after the restore, when I click on my start menu, it's empty.

When I try to download the dell diagnostic tool to fix the problem, it always has a problem with the installation. So I have no idea what is wrong.

Any help would be great!

Hello, I am new to these forums, so I apologize if I'm in the wrong place.

Anyways, as the title indicates, I have a problem with my Dell Inspiron 14 3421 upgraded to Windows 10 from 8.1. I was simply using it, but it turned off suddenly. Since it happens sometimes, I wasn't worried, and I simply turned it back on. However, it gave me a BSoD, and reset. After it reset, it gave me another BSoD, and it reset again. After that reset, it said it was starting automatic reparation, and it reset yet again, yet this time it beeped loudly. I counted 7 beeps, and after some research, I learned it meant a CPU problem. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance. If it's important, I got this Inspiron in August last year, and the warranty says it began in March 14, 2014, and it ends on October 15, 2015.

1) I m not able to used the touch feature with google chrome.

2) when I am in tablet mode, there is no touch keyboard which is available.

A few months ago, I attempted to update the BIOS in my XPS 15 and ran into the same issues that many have posted about - hanging during the burn process, fans running high. After waiting for the battery to drain, the laptop started without any issues. I was lucky that time. I upgraded to Windows 10 with no problems and installed all of the updated Dell drivers. The PC ran great as usual. A few days later, I saw the new "RECOMMENDED" A09 BIOS with these details:

Fixes

- Fixed System hang up after Touch Touchpad
- Fixed USB Test Fail

Enhancements
-Update Flash Utility
-Update SMBIOS type0 format for Win10 BIOS Requirement

The updated flash utility seemed to imply that Dell had resolved the widely reported BIOS upgrade problems. The "for Windows 10 BIOS requirement" convinced me to run the update. At exactly the point where the green boxes were filled and the flashing begins, the screen went blank and the fans went into high speed. The computer was unresponsive. After the battery drained, it was DEAD. Fortunately (I thought), I have an at home repair warranty on it. After requesting the service, the tech replaced the motherboard. The PC was still dead, no power on. I was forced to send it into the Dell depot where it is today.

In my IT career, I've upgraded a Dell BIOS at least a hundred times with absolutely no issues. This is unacceptable.

HI!

recently I have an disturbing issue when I start my PC. I have to push the start button 2 times.

When I push it first time, pc will start booting up, but after few seconds it shuts down again. After that I push again button and pc will boot up normally.

System diagnostic under f12 cant find any problems about hardware ... but I have not installed any new software or changed any settings either.

System mechanic will find on hard drive ... load/unload warning

Any help resolving this disturbing issue would be kindly appreciated.

Hello all. Weird problem and had a search but noone else seems to have experienced it.

I have a Dell inspiring 1545 laptop. I. The bios there is a setting for wol and it expressly states that it can be used to turn the laptop from a powered down state. I have enabled it but it doesn't work when the laptop is shut down. Now it does work when the laptop is in sleep mode but... The setting in the bios seems to make no difference to this. Wake from sleep works regardless of whether the bios setting is on or off. So... I have also...

Checked in the bios to make sure there are no deep sleep settings that need disabling.

Updated bios from a13 to a14. Tried downgrading as well but the Dell utility wouldn't let me.

Tried different Ethernet drivers and checked all Ethernet options including the power settings and enabling the device to bring the computer out of standby and the advanced section where there is a enable wake from off option.

Any ideas????

A Dell inspiron 15 3542 and I would like to know the following:

1. Can a stylus be with this laptop, the main use would be for windows math input panel and simple drawings.

2. If it can be used what should I look for when purchasing.

I will be buying a few as it would be for children that I purchased the laptops for a few months ago so I am looking for something that is a bit cost efficient. Is there any particular brand that you would recommend.

I purchased the laptop from a re seller and it works fine but once I got home I noticed the BIOS was locked. I have no clue how to unlock it. can someone please help?

Also I was wondering, if the battery wont charge but it turns on while plugged in, should I replace the battery? or could it be something else?

This is the laptop I purchased. I had WiFi issues right away and eventually Dell sent me a "new and well-tested" WiFi card of the same model as the original. But lately the new one's begun causing the same problem, which others already have described here, here, here, and here between 1-3 years ago.
