Hello everyone,

I have dell inspiron 1545 laptop and few days ago it just stopped working after almost 8 years of service :(

When turning on, screen is blank, about a minute waiting time and it gives me two beeps.

Doing research, found out it is a problem with RAM. Tried to replace it (have another dell laptop) - same problem. After more research found out that is motherboard problem and I need to change it :(

I am not the biggest expert in laptops (however can change motherboard myself) so need your help:

Which mother board do I need to choose for my laptop as there is various models available?

My laptop specs: 500gb hard drive; 4gb ram; intel processor; radeon 512mb or 256 cant remember video card.

Cannot excatly remember, as bought 7 years ago, however at that time this was the highest spec dell 1545 laptop that was available.

Can I buy any motherboard for dell 1545 and it will fit?

Or it should be some specific module?

Having issues with the mouse pointer size after updating BIOS to A005.

Pointer size is by default Large. Changing within Ease of Access > Mouse > Pointer Size, the Large stays as the pointer size even when the smallest icon is highlighted. Also attempted to change via Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers > Mouse > Pointers > Schemes > Windows Default (system scheme). The size still stays as Large.

Oddly, when changing the pointer color to black and choosing the smallest size, the black pointer will be of the small size, but changing to white it automatically jumps to large.

Please advise.

Hi,

I spilled some water on my  Precision M3800 Touchpad. The touchpad itself seems to work OK but the left and right click is very buggy now. I can't seem to find any source to buy a replacement part. Does anyone know where to buy one and instructions on how to replace?

Not sure how but I managed to uprade my BIOS to 7737A13. 

Thought I did it from Legacy but a friend told me it's not likely since flashing from legacy will not work on EFI OS. Can Dell support confirm this? 

Tonikaku, now that I'm running version A13 with UEFI mode set to default, the only BOOT options are: 

Windows Boot Manager

Onboard NIC-IPv4

Onboard NIC-IPv6

Is there a way to add boot from DVD or USB to this menu?  thx 

On a positive note, the F2 and F12 keys now work perfectly fine.

THIS LAPTOP GOT WET AND WOULDN'T WORK FOR MONTHS.  NOW IT TURNS ON AND GIVES:

INTEL (R) BOOT AGENT GE v1.3.52.1

PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable.

PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel Boot Agent.

No boot device found..  Press any key o reboot the machine.

Is there anything we can do to make it boot up Windows 7?  It's in there somewhere.  Thanks.

laptop is about 3 years old. Replaced battery last year but now only holds about 1 hour of charge and dropping. Should I buy another battery or a new laptop?

Running Windows 7 on a Dell XPS15

Recently, every time I shut down or hibernate Windows the laptop immediately restarts

The only way I can shut it down is a hard power off

I've tried most of the suggestions on the web with no luck

Anyone got anything else I can try?

Hello,

I have a laptop Studio 1749.

I would like to install a second internal hard drive to essentially use as extra storage means.

The problem is that I have not received any metal mounting frame to the second location in order to secure the hard disk when I bought my laptop.

I made several stores, searched the internet and it's really complicated to find.

Someone would have an idea about that?

Latitude E5510 - Win7 Pro

Hello,

This BLACK SCREEN AT BOOTUP issue initially seemed to have coincided with a Windows 'critical'  Update ( on May 28?)..

At startup, acts like it should start as a usual boot up. the Dell logo shows onscreen, but seems to show and disappear VERY quickly..then it goes directly to ONLY A BLACK (UNRESPONSIVE) SCREEN w/a FLASHING CURSOR (in upper left)... I have been able to access diagnostics and boot sequence screens infrequently with F8 & F12 keys.. BUT NEITHER HAVE HAD ANY EFFECT WHATSOEVER (during the few times the F8 or F12 have been responsive).

In the EXTENSIVE Diagnostics, scans, Dell's Support Assist, numerous expert advice etc, etc.. Everything has PASSED...NO Errors...EVERYTHING PASSES...NO Viruses.

It began working again (without incident). After restoring to a time previous to the Windows update, the extreme cleanings, etc. and has performed without the ISSUE..but now Out of the BLACK, it has again returned...Doing the exact same thing at startup..Why its working NOW (after approx. 35 restarts), I have no idea...But it surprisingly said 'Resuming Windows' and has allowed me to use it...

I did a complete windows update of everything listed as critical or important...and it worked flawlessly...did another - last' shut down...THEN TODAY...I HAVE THE IDENTICAL ISSUE...IT WON'T COMPLETE A BOOTUP...RUNS THE DELL LOGO 'QUICKLY', THEN GOES TO THE BLACK SCREEN WITH A USELESS CURSOR!

I purchased a new Dell Inspiron 13 7000 laptop one month ago.  I seldom used it till this week.  All of the sudden, there is a crack on the screen (a long curve line across the screen).  Now the touch screen is not working.  Did anybody have this problem with this  model?  Did Dell fix it for you without any charges?

I believe I should still have a year warranty.  Please advise.  Thanks.

When I turn on my computer, it won't start up, black screen, beeps once continuously.  I have completed the ePSA scans and everything was fine.  No error codes.  I have completed all the diagnostics I can find on Dell.com as well as followed all the instructions available through support.  I have not been able to get through to Alienware support to help me dive further into troubleshooting this.  I have also run many, many virus and malware scans.  In the past, when the issue started, I was able to successfully start up the computer with no issues if I let it sit for a while.  Over the past few days, it won't do anything except beep.  The power button is not orange but it's normal color.  Please tell me that my computer is fixable and how can I fix it if I can't get it to start up?

This has been going on for a while now and I've looked all over the Internet without finding a successful fix. I've got a DV8P running Windows 10, but this was an issue on 8.1 as well. Basically, when I click the power button to put the tablet in sleep mode, it won't turn back on. It will turn the backlight on but the screen will just be black. I can still hear alerts when the backlight is on, but no pictures. I've installed every update. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Hi,

I have a Dell Studio 1735 that is running WIN10 (came with Vista). It has the Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 3 GB RAM.

It currently has a Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card, which seems to only support 802.11b.

I want to get a faster dual-band router with a better range (currently have Netgear N300 @ 54Mbps). Could you please make a recommendation of what card I could purchase for this laptop?

Do you have a recommendation for a router? We have Comcast, using an Arris TM722 cable modem.

Also, I would like to upgrade the hard drive or add a secondary one. Is there a limit of hard drive storage size with this laptop?

ever since upgrade to Windows 10, video gets corrupted, (fuzzy, colors skewed and reduced is size to 85% of screen (right side is just colored lines) will stay corrupted for a few seconds to minutes.

ONLY happens when running on battery.

I've run Dell system detect which reverted BIOS to an older version, but that did not resolve.

Not really a laptop if one cannot unplug ;-)

Hi,

While replacing the hard drive on my E6420, I tossed the connector along with the old drive and now I am having trouble ordering it. This connector is between the drive and the laptop housing (not the cable connects to the mobo).

I am asking any one who can help in identifying its part number or the name of the part for easy ordering. Again this connector sits at the back of the HDD and connects to the SATA connector in the HDD housing. Greatly appreciate anyone who can help.

my laptop is an inspiron 3420

sometimes/ not very frequently my computer has been giving off a beeping sound. its been 2 quick beeps. i have researched it a bit and found out that it has to do with the RAM (im not really experienced with these tech terms). it just happens randomly....

in addition, there is a single quick beep that i hear as well....

can anyone tell me what exactly is the problem and how i can fix it immediately?
