Dell Inspiron N5110 failure to detect HDD

$

I have had this Inspiron 5110 for some 3 years now and this is probably the first hardware issue i've ever faced. While i left the laptop on for a while (maybe an hour or two) on a flat surface (actually a carpet rug). When i came back to the laptop i found it showing this black screen with an error message reporting a failure to detect an HDD and an exiting pre boot menu message. I've tried it for a while and the laptop detects the HDD on 2 out of 10 attempts (more so in safe mode) and i am able to access files on the HDD like normal but it suddenly stops with an excessive fan noise and the same error message. I don't know much about the bios and the attempt at updating bios failed in safe mode and normal mode, both reporting a missing driver. I've tried a windows repair and a restore point but no use. Should i consider replacing the HDD or the heat sink or just a refresh on windows would do?

USB Emulation of a Serial Port

I have a Dell Latitude D620 with 2 USB ports and a Serial port. I need one of the USB ports to emulate a serial port. How do I do that?

I need to insert a USB plug into the computer that will appear as a serial channel to the software.

When I run Dell backup and recovery, it gave an error saying my computer is not a dell, but it is a dell. It is a Latitude E6230. How do I get it to run?

Long story, windows 10 is not working out, and won't let me change back to windows 7 either. I am resign to restore computer to factory default. This is where I run into the not a dell computer problem.

Google doesn't turn up any similar problem.

Cannot get Dell stylus to work on Venue 11 Pro (model 7130) with Windows 10

Subject line says it all.

Windows 10 installed (build 10240), all patches applied. Up to date through Windows update.

All Dell device drivers installed - at least those auto-detected for my hardware on Dell support website

But ...... the pen is essentially inoperable. Only way to get any sort of pen input is to hold down the button clsest to the stylus, but that just produces on on-screen small cursor that tracks any pen movement, even if the stylus is ~2cm away from teh screen!! I can't draw anything in pen enebled apps like Paint, OneNote etc.

Is there a pen/screen device driver available that isn't listed on the drivers for the Venue 11 pro running Windows 10???

Inspirion Touchpad has never worked

I have had this labtop for nine months. The touchpad has never worked.  I have contacted Dell through the chat forum 4 times.  Every time they have had me run some sort of diagnostics and it has worked for a few months and then reverted back to not working.  I can use a wireless mouse and it works fine. Any suggestions??

My laptop's Wi-Fi connection shows connected, but I'm not able to access Internet through any application

I have a Dell Inspiron B130 with XP personal OS.

I can turn on and off my WiFi connection with Ctrl + F2, but I cannot get any application to connect to the internet. Even when I try to send a Microsoft error message (for Microsoft work 8) it reports no internet connection.

I can plug into the router with dsl line and then I can brows the internet easily. the wifi connection shows to be good (4 green bars). The Dell Wireless WLAN Card utility shows reception of several different networks. All other computers in home are using home wifi easily.

I have tried basic steps suggested in general listing of troubleshooting

BIOS shows recognition of mini card. Disabling all but needed start up programs did not fix it.

Is this a hardware problem? It may have all stopped working (all access to internet through wifi connection) one day after the laptop fell to the floor.

I did try posting this in the internet section of this webite but after 50+ readings I did not get a single response.

Thank you ahead for any suggestions or education helping me fix this problem.

Inspiron 7720 BIOS problem, need to flash BIOS without Windows.

Hello everybody.
I have my Dell Inspiron 7720, when I bought the laptop I also got a 40 GB SSD, I installed system on that drive and on my 1 TB HDD I have a Ubuntu (which is how I can talk with you). Everything was fine like this for three years (laptop from Sep 2012), until I decided to update to W10. I gave the installer 12 GB it wanted, but there were still issues during update from 7 SP1 to 10. I also did not have any vacant DVD around, so I decided to perform a clean install of W7 and then update it.

During installation of W7 on formatted SSD drive some error came up (0xc000025), tried installing again, but there was a problem with the partition, so I cleaned the partition and tried once again, but to no avail. I have read that there might be a problem in a BIOS setting, so I went to setup, but I couldn't change anything. Hence I believe I have an issue with BIOS and it needs flashing, but I don't have any Windows to run the .exe file. I also remembered that few days ago Dell Update Agent suggested BIOS update and I wanted to start it, but I didn't have my battery in, so I postponed the action. Everything else about the laptop is probably fine, I have run diagnostics from the bootmenu and all tests were passed, right now I am using Ubuntu 14.04 and here everything is fine, too.

All I need is a way to flash my BIOS with file 7720A17.exe, but without a Windows. Are there any Windows life CDs? Is it possible to create a USB flash drive and flash the BIOS with the USB drive through the boot menu on my laptop? Please, help me, as I quite need the Windows for various tools.

Looking forward to any helpful replies,

Yours,
Kajetan

Vostro 3700 RAM upgrade - 1066Mhz vs 1333Mhz

I  have a question (it is not which is better, 1066 or 1333 Mhz) - my Dell Vostro shows that there are currently two RAM sets made from 2GB DDR3 1066Mhz. Question is - can I replace them both with two 1333Mhz 4GB RAMs? Will my laptop accept them? My Vostro 3700 has i5 Intel, Quad-core.

Thanks:)

Hello,

My Dell will not boot up. It will not get to the Dell logo screen. After power on, it stays on the black screen and beeps 3 times. I've found info on the web that it leads to a bad system board. How reliable is that diagnosis? Is there a CD I can use to boot from to diagnose it better.

Difficulty Updating Dell Backup & Recovery

I honestly don't know whether I am posting this in the right place or not, however I was wondering if anyone has had trouble updating this software. I always try to update to the new version so that it doesn't cause issues with my computer, but when I do I receive an Error 104 message during the copying files process. I don't know how to fix it and I was wondering if anyone does. Any help would be appreciated.

This is what I see, the percentage is always random:

Alienware M15X USB problem

I bought my M15X new, about 4 years ago and have not had any problems until now.

None of the USB ports will read external drives, including flash drives, mobile phones, portable HDD's, of any make. These devices give the error that they are not able to start. Have updated all drivers, reinstalled them, the problem persists. I have used the Dell diagnostic software and downloaded all recommended. Still makes no difference. Virus scans report no problem and I have removed any programmes which could cause conflict such as Samsung Kies.

All USB ports have the same problem. They are obviously getting power as I can charge from them and my mouse works in all of them. No recent changes have been made and there does not appear to be any other problems.

Could anyone help please?

My left screen hinge broke and new problems started

$

So I was opening my Inspiron N4030 laptop only to find the left screen hinge broke already and there was rattling sounds inside of my laptop; so in a moment of frustration, I opened up my laptop to remove the hinges only to find out that it was worse than I thought: the steel piece broke off along with the screw and the pieces are trapped everywhere in the laptop. I managed to remove it (cleaning my cooling system in the process as well) but there is a new problem: my laptop won't turn on. It was on for about a second (the screen didn't even turn on) and the laptop would shut itself off. It would then repeat that process indefinitely (turning on and off). Could someone let me know what is going on and can I fix this myself? Thank you for your help

Keyboard strokes missing

I volunteer in a retirement community by helping to keep about 100 PCs running for the many residents.  In one case, I convinced a lady to give up on an old Dell XP machine and buy a new Dell 660s in August of 2013.  All was well until the keyboard strokes began to miss some characters about 6 months ago.  I switched keyboards (another Dell keyboard), but the same thing continues to happen.

Any suggestions on next steps?

Thanks,

Dell Inspiron N5110- not turning on!

Hello everybody!

I would really, really appreciate some help right about now. I have a DELL INSPIRON (model) N5110. I've had it for 2+ years and it'd been working great. However, recently my battery suffered total failure (probably on the account of me using a duplicate charger as my original charger conked off long ago) and thus my laptop would not turn on. I went out and replaced the battery with a new one (original) and bought an original DELL 90W AC Adapter (charger) as well. But my laptop still ISN'T turning on! If ANYONE could shed some light on this issue, i'd be eternally grateful.

Thanks!
