Latitude D-620 locks up at BIOS log-in

Hi, I've got a Latitiude D-620, and lately it sometimes locks up on boot, when it comes to the screen with the grey bars, where it wants me to log-in to the computer. I think that's called the BIOS log-in. Correct me if I'm wrong. Can anyone tell me what could be causing this. Is it something on the motherboard, or something more easily fixed? Thank you much.  --Jim

CPU becomes overtasked with video use.

I've run numerous diagnostic on the machine, but all say everything works fine. PC Doctor (from Dell) shows all hardware to be ok while System Mechanic shows no software problems. Norton 360 shows no infections. Yet, after watching 10-15 minutes of video the CPU shows 100% utilization and clogs up the whole machine. What is the likely problem?

The Boot Sequence in my Precision M4700's BIOS contains three entries all named "Windows Boot Manager"!!

I currently have three hard drives installed in my Precision M470: the factory shipped hard drive, an mSATA drive, and a third drive in the optical (fixed) bay.

I'm currently booting off the primary hard disk (Bus 0) but I would like to install Windows to the mSATA drive and boot from it instead.

So I pressed F2, went to the BIOS Setup -> Boot Sequence and I was really surprised at what was listed there:

Instead of descriptive entries about the installed hard drives, all three entries were called "Windows Boot Manager". Very Weird!

Does anyone know how I can configure the BIOS to boot off the mSATA drive?

Inspiron N7110 factory recovery problem

Hi,

I've dell Inspiron N7110,

Windows 7 was crashed, did recovery, and when restarted after completed recovery and restarting to finish the recovery, it restarted again after a very short blue screen and gave options to start normaly or repair windows, , normal wont work, repair can not repair.

In Bios I changed the hard drive mode to ATA and did the recovery, but still doing the same, recovered using ATA and on restart changed to ACHI, still doing the same.

scanned hard drive for bad sectors, hard drive is healty and no errors found.

F8 will give all start up options starting "repair your computer" ending with "start windows normaly"

looks like it is common on Inspiron N Series..

I wonder what the other suggestions?

diagnosing my M1710 laptop

 Hello all..

I have recently found a laptop being discarded . Normally I would probably not taken the time and money to diagnose and fix it but my 10 yr. old son wants a laptop so I decided to research it a little bit and take a chance or two..

It is a XPS Model 1710 with Intel Centrino & VISTA . It had a few bubble looking spots  on the screen. It may or may not have gotten wet but i waited a while before I tried anything with power.  I was hoping for a price of a battery or cord and a part or two on the side it was a good gamble to try as long as it would be between 50 to 100 $.

I took it to a repair shop and when plugging it in I got it to begin to boot but said it needed at least 130W to boot. I went ahead and bought a 130w power cord and then got to a boot screen with safe mode / s.m. w/command prompt / last known..[similar to F5 ].   and all configurations tried got the quarter second blue screen of death and then began  rebooting.  I believe the battery to be dead since it was not recognized as installed. Should this be absolutely necessary as long as you have power cord?

I thought I could format the hard drive but can't seem to set the cd / rom to run before the hard drive. I have a friend with a Dell note book and was using his reinstallation O.S  as well as another I got for all my desktops.

So this is where I am at right now.. I have no spare hard drives cords, mouses or any other hardware. I would love to get this working and would be totally happy if someone wants to help me.I guess I could have it diagnosed at $25 but maybe I can get a little farther before that.

anyone want to help me? what forum would be the best for this problem>

Dell Insprion 7520 high Intel PCH temp and high RPM of CPU fan

Hello Guys!

I need some help in connection with my new Inspiron 7520 notebook:

I have bought it a few days ago, i have installed Windows 8 Pro 64 bit and i have some strange things:

  1. First of all: the temperature of Intel PCH. I am not sure what is the correct or normal value of it. I downloaded HWiNFO, and if i see sensor status everything seems like ok, but INTEL PCH is always above 65 celsius, sometimes it goes up 75. Is it normal?
  2. Second: Many people mentioned in the forum, they had problem with cpu fan, and i have same too. The avarege CPU usage is less than 10%, and its avarage temp is 49 celsius degree, and the cpu fan operates 4600 RPM. I installed all driver in the right order, this is a new laptop and it should not be cleaned CPU fan ventillate, i updated BIOS to A10. Have you any idea what causes this "problem"? Or is it normal also? :D

Thank you for help and advices!

Hello

My father's laptop wont start up. It boots but stops on a black screen saying "DWTHY Compressed. Press ALT + CTRL + DEL to restart". We do that to see what happens but its the same story. My father says that he went into C and right clicked on something and hit compress to save some space. Afterwards everything was fine. He turned off the computer later and worked just as well. But today that message showed and wont let windows start. Anyone know whats going on.

i installed software for my canon dslr about 2 weeks ago.  after the installation my computer prompted me to restart, i selected yes but since then the computer is unable to restart.  i get passed the dell logo window, and there is a brief flash of a blue screen error and then it goes to the start windows in safe mode or start windows normally window.  i am unable to read the blue screen error messages because they are only flashed for a second so i don't know what the error codes are.

i've tried to start windows in safe mode and the diagnostic ran and said it was unable to repair the problem.  i have gone through every other diagnostic available for the computer but nothing worked.  i even tried returning the os to the factory installation settings but continue to get routed to the start windows in safe mode or start windows normally.

does anyone know a way i can get the blue screen errors to display longer so i can write them down?  or is there another way i can retrieve the errors?  i'm fairly certain the software i installed is causing this problem.  is there anyway to uninstall software without logging into the computer?

is there a way i can get the original os disks to re-install the system?  i did try the re-install from the diagnostics but that did not work.  unfortunately i never made my own re-boot disks.

if anyone has any suggestions i would appeciate your help.

7 Beeps and all is not well!

2 months out of warranty and here one minute and 7 beeps the next.  I've been a Dell customer since I worked for a  company that deals exclusively with Dell...(8 yearsnow)  I've bought 3 Inspiron laptops and a Zino for my HTPC and been mostly happy with all of them. I've recommended Dell to anyone who said that they were going to buy a computer.  With my computer service background, I've been supporting family and friends for many years.

I have two issues:

1st...  the BRDVD drive on the Zino stopped seeing any disks... at first, I thought it was a driver issue and was not overly concerned.  I ran the Dell diagnostics and it said that the drive is OK.  I've unplugged the drive and rebooted, then reinstalled the drive and rebooted... no good. Still shows up as OK in the diags.  I'm using an external DVD drive on the Zino so it's seeing that drive OK.

2nd... 2 months out of warranty and my Inspiron 15 (M5030) doesn't boot anymore... 7 beeps and then 7 more etc. for as long as I can stand it.  When I came to the forums to check it out, I found that it's a prevalent problem for this model.  Can I get some help here?

Both of these systems are now out of warranty as is the Inspiron 15 (M5030) that my wife is currently using.  Is there a fix or do we have to wait for it to die too?

Thanks for the ear!

Different fan for XPS L521x

I am pretty sure that there is no such thing as an aftermarket fan but my laptop seems to get abnormally hot.  I am just surfing the interweb and I am at 60 degrees C and the fan is at its lowest setting.  When I ramp stuff up it goes up to 85-90 degrees and the fan is very active.  I cleaned out the fan and replaced the heat compound but it didn't work very well.  I don't really care about noise but is there a fan I can replace it with.
