Inspirion 15 3521 touch screen windows 8 keeps freezing

0

My laptop started freezing a couple of weeks ago, and at the beginning it would only last a few seconds and then it would unfreeze. I have McAfee installed, and each time I run a scan it says there are no viruses. Recently the freezing became worse and would last 30 minutes and sometimes more. Sometimes I would have to press and hold the power button to get the laptop to go off. Also, now after the startup screen, there will be a black screen that lasts for a few minutes before the sign in screen pops up, and then a black screen after that. Yesterday, I reformatted my laptop to factory defaults, thinking that it would solve the issues. It didn't. Actually, it has got worse. Now along with the freezing and black screens there is a screen that pops up before the start up that says checking media, checking media fail, and when I finally get to log into my laptop I have tried to click on the picture album and it says that it doesn't work and needs to be deleted. I installed a shockwave plugin because sometimes when it would freeze and unfreeze while I was doing something on Google Chrome it would say that the shockwave plugin stopped working. I don't know what is wrong with my computer, and would like to know if there is anything that you know of that I can do to fix it. Thanks!

Tormenting the Elderly

I bought a new Inspiron for my dad in 2013.  The motherboard went bad within the first year and Dell replaced it.  When they did, they gave him a little card with the product code on it.  He did not remember where he placed the card.  His system was hacked and the hackers held his password for ransom.  My dad then purchased an extended service plan.  Dell tech support suggested getting to a magical blue screen that would allow him to access his password.  They told him to crash his hard drive repeatedly in order to conjure this magic screen.  After dozens of head crashes and hours of time on the phone, needless to say the magic screen did not appear.  The tech eventually asked his supervisor for help and they quickly found a workaround through Microsoft.  But then a day later the system crashed and would not reboot, suggesting a damaged operating system.  Dell sent my dad two new Windows 8 disks but neither would load without the product code that had been burned into the new motherboard.  Who on earth thought of burning product codes into motherboards?  I have owned many Dells and have a lab full of them at work.  None of them has a product code burned into the motherboard.  Dell apparently has no idea what his replacement product code is.  No records were kept within the service call.  No internal records for such an essential piece of information?  So my dad spent more hours trying to install an operating system to resuscitate his desktop machine.  Dell tech support told him his system could not be fixed and there was nothing he could do.  So much for tech support.  They wasted many hours of his time and blew up his hard drive.  Customers, particularly the elderly, do not need this kind of frustration.

Screen display goes haywire on Inspiron 7347

I have two problems that may be related:

1. While I am typing, the display on my laptop screen turns upside down for no apparent reason. The only way I have found to get it back is to close the laptop, almost all the way or all the way and then reopen it. This doesn't work reliably and when it doesn't, wastes a lot of time.

2. Sometimes the display stops responding to the keyboard. In other words, I'll be typing but nothing will appear on the screen. Once I start using the touchscreen, I can''t go back to the keyboard without closing out of whatever I was doing. it doesn't respond to the mouse either when this happens.

What can I do? Can I/should I just disable the touch screen? If I do that, can I turn it back on if , on rare occasions, I try to use the computer as a tablet?

Thank you for your help.

Dell BT Travel Mouse Intermittent Connectivity

I have just upgraded my laptop from the Dell XPS M1330 (Vista 32-bit) to Dell L3340 (Win8.1 64-bit) series. The BT mouse works fine on the XPS, but is having intermittent connectivity on the L3440 laptop. I always have to keep switching to the "Bluetooth" under "PC and Devices" to get the connection going again. Is there any solution for this? I have checked the driver and it is up to date.

pin pad

I received this laptop from my dad and I logged in using a pin number and created my own username however I can't download anything because my username is not the administrator. When I went to log into his username it does not give me an option to use a pin only a password. I do not know the password and he can't remember it. so my question is how do I get the option of a pin when signing in?

Dell Latitude D630 - wont power on

Dell Latitude D630 - wont power on. It was working perfectly fine with Windows 8.1

1. Two weeks back, it just died; no LEDs would come on when i press the power button

2. removed battery and seems to have full charge

3. removed HDD and DVD drive; pressed/held the power button down for 10-15 secs, no luck ( read on this forum somewhere).

4. When I plugged the power adapter to the laptop with/ without the battery - and the light on the power adapter goes off. and it works fine on another laptop and the battery as well.

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

How to solve the problem?

Inspiron 1545 CPU Upgrade

Hello!

I've had an Inspiron 1545 for almost 6 years so far. And during all this time I've been upgrading it, installing 8 GB RAM memory, 256 GB SSD, and Core 2 Duo T9600 CPU, I also updated BIOS to latest official version, A14. Last week a friend brought me a Core 2 Extreme QX9300 CPU, listed as compatible with my Inspiron's GM45 chipset and PGA478 socket. I installed it (of course applying thermal paste on it) and when I turned on the laptop, it didn't even get to the BIOS boot screen, just stayed there, on but not doing anything. After trying a couple of times, I thought it could just be not compatible with this machine. But then I tried once more, and it booted. I went to BIOS Setup and it was recognizing its 4 cores and specs. I booted my OS, used it for a while and everything was working fine, temperatures were ok, but then I tried turning the laptop off and on again, and it didn't boot. As I was using the 65W AC, and this laptop also supports a 90W AC, I thought that could help, so I got one of those but the result was the same: it turned on but no booted and randomly, when trying several times, it booted.

I've made a lot of research trying to find a similar case but I didn't find one. I'm confused because the laptop recognized the Quad Core CPU and I could use it without trouble once I got the machine to boot, so I guess that means the QX9300 is actually supported by my Inspiron. But I couldn't find out why I can't get it to boot normally.

Maybe it can't be done, which I don't care because if QX9300 doesn't work I'll keep with the T9600, but I'm willing to try any ideas to make the QX9300 work first, so help would be appreciated =)

I am trying to create a factory recovery media for my brand new dell inspiron 5000 series laptop. however this was unsuccessful for all options viz, external hard disk, external usb and DVD drive.

Please advise me the way forward.

In the mean time could you also clarify what it is meant by windows certified USB drive?

How many watts does your laptop use? If you have a watt reader, you can see the wattage certain appliances are using. I have a Dell XPS M1710 and it uses around 35 watts when running.

I have recently bought an xps 11 refurb, after having the hard drive replaced after a few days the F10 (keyboard settings) key is not working. I have installed all the keyboard updates etc but it still doesn't work. It had been working fine before the hard drive was replaced. Any ideas?

Apart from this everything seems to be working fine.

I followed  the steps given below posted by DELL-Sujatha K
:

  1. Restart the laptop and start tapping the F2 key at the Dell logo for enter the BIOS.
    2. Navigate to the “Advanced” menu.
    3. Change the SATA operation/selection in BIOS from Intel Smart Response to AHCI.
    4. Press F10 to save changes and exit.
    5. Reboot the system.
    6. Go back into the BIOS by tapping the F2 key and change the SATA operation/selection in BIOS from AHCI to Intel Smart Response.
    7. Save changes and exit by pressing the F10 key.

No boot device fix you posted doesn't help. My computer is already set to your suggestion. This seems to be a widespread factory defect problem. My son's new computer doing  the same thing. We need a fix and would like Dell to own up to the problem though responding to everyone in this forum.
