Latitude N4010 - need asistance with hardware

So my motherboard was having problems causing frequent lockups. Other sources were eliminated by swapping components out. So I ordered a replacemdent and accitdentally got the one with the ATI gpu in addition to the std, makng it so the heat sink didn't fit. So I bought te correct heat sink and go to assdemble and find that the video is a different connector: The old a flat ribbon connector where the motherboard has a clamp which comes down on it and the new being a long shallow plug type.

Given that the cable coming from the LCD is the flat ribbon what are my options for getting this working? I am suspecting that the simplest will be a replacement chassis/LCD but would like to hear if I have any opitons.

New: (no 7xxxx on it)

XPS 13 9343 (2015) - Multiple Track Pad issues

$

Let me preface this by saying that I have the most up-to-date BIOS (A04, I believe) and drivers for the trackpad.

I know there have been many, many complaints about the XPS 13 trackpad, but I haven't been able to find solutions to these two problems:

1) When I tap the pad (not physically clicking the trackpad), there is a ~2 second time frame where anything I tap is susceptible to being dragged. I know this is a feature on some trackpads, but it typically only happens when you've double tapped -- my computer is doing it after just a single tap. This only started happening after I updated my BIOS.

The only solution I found was to go into mouse and trackpad settings and enable the "double tap to drag feature," but that is not available on my settings screen.

2) I would like to be able to use a two or three finger gesture to navigate between web pages (i.e. go back to the previous web page). I use the Chrome browser. Are there any built-in settings to do this to change the gestures for precision trackpads, or will I have to edit the registry in order to achieve this?

Any help on these two matters would be greatly appreciated.

Dell Inspiron 5558 TouchPad

Good evening all!

I just got my dell inspiron 5558 in the mail today. Loving it so far, but have a question about the touch pad. On my old laptop I was able to "scroll" through pages using the touch pad. I haven't been able to figure out how to do that with this new laptop. I'm stuck using the actual webpage's scroll bar. I will eventually be getting a wireless mouse, but want to learn how to scroll for the times I won't have mouse with me.

Thanks in advance!

Dell Inspiron 15 i5548-1670SLV: Power LED not working while in sleep mode

Greetings everyone!

I just bought this laptop and overall I'm very happy! However, I notice whenever I put the laptop on sleep mode, the power LED on the bottom doesn't blink as usual. This is annoying because of two reasons: you don't know when the laptop is done transitioning to the sleep power state (swap everything from RAM to hard disk), which makes it impossible to know if it's safe to put it in my backpack; and also you never know if the laptop is sleeping (and consuming battery) or fully of. Is this configurable? I found nothing in the OS settings (Windows 8.1)

But I got the following error message:

"Hibernation failed with the following error:  The request is not supported

The following items are preventing hibernation on this system

The system firmware does not support hibernation."

Please advise.

Thank you in advance for your prompt responses.

Hey Community!

This seems to be a prevalent problem on these forums but I wasn't able to get a solid answer. Here's the situation.

  • I was working on my laptop last night. Turned it off like normal. Now it won't boot up today.
  • The power indicator on my AC charger glows blue which leads me to think it's working fine. The light doesn't go off or the charger doesn't heat up insanely even if I do connect it to the laptop which makes me think the immediate circuitry isn't shorted out in the notebook
  • Of the three indicator lights at the front of the laptop, power, HDD activity and battery charging indicator, the battery charging indicator comes on briefly (less than a second maybe) when I plug in the charger and turns off again. Which used to be its normal behavior.
  • Nothing comes to life (as was mentioned in some other forums). No fan, no HDD whizzing, nothing.

What I have tried already:

  • The flea power trick.
  • Taking out the memory modules, the CMOS coin-cell and the optical drive and putting them back in.

I know its outlived its natural life. But I need it to come to life because it is important for me for now. Can I please be helped?

Cheers!

Failure to boot from bootable USB flash drive.

Since I upgraded the BIOS on my Latitude E6230 to the latest A14 version, I am unable to boot from USB flash drive. In the BIOS setup I disabled Secure Boot, selected Legacy Boot and set boot priorities to Internal Hard Drive as first and then USB drive as second. After making these changes in BIOS my computer failed to boot from the internal hard drive prompting, "Invalid Partition Table" So I reversed the changes after which my computer booted normally.

Could any one help me sort out this problem?

Thanks,

Dell e5530 can't update BIOS

Hi all!
I am trying to update BIOS of e5530, currently installed A02 version. Downloaded the latest one A15, it gives me the normal precautions window, after that window with compare between my current one A02 and the new one A15, after that filling bar window with "Preparing to update", when it is full, it restarts laptop with no change made to BIOS.
I tried to install lower version first A03, but with the same result. With or without antivirus software installed, the outcome is the same.
Windows 7 64 bit.
Oddly enough the laptop has a sticker of Core i5 vPro, but the BIOS is non vPro. (Trying to install vPro BIOS, result of message telling me I should use non vPro BIOS).
Thanks for the help!

Nothing showing on screen - Dell Studio 1558

Hi,

First time poster.

Unfortunately, nothing is showing on the screen of my laptop.

I had a computer technician examine it and they said the graphics card is broken. Are there other possibilities? It has not had a hard impact.

The computer  technician said a solution is to replace the graphics card. Can this be done on my model?

It seems that  computer is booting okay but nothing showing.

A diagnosis and/or a solution would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Lawrence.

Dell Latitude e6420 Power Problems

$

My Uncle sent me this Latitude e6420 Somewhere around April last year. When i recieved it, it was still under warranty, but it expired somewhere in November that year. After it expired, the laptop begun to give me problems.

First, the power cord which connects to the ac adapter melted somewhere in the middle. So i replaced since it was the 2 pin type and not the 3 pin type. Little did i know that, the replacement had just 250v and 2.5a whereas the one that came with the laptop/melted one had 250v 10a so it begun to give me the error "AC Adapter wattage type cannot be determined. The Battery may not charge, the system would adjust its performance to suit the power available". And this error showed up on the bios screen at startup. By then, i still didnt know that the power cord i had connected to my AC Adapter was the culprit until the battery began to loose charge at a faster rate. Sometimes it would jump from 80% charge to 6%.

The battery eventually died as whenever i turned the laptop on, the battery light begins to flash an amber light through out the time i use the laptop. I then decided to run the dell diagnostics software thats embedded into the laptop and in the diagnostics screen, i noticed that the ac adapter wattage type alternates between 90 watts and 1 watt(It shows 90 watt for 30 to 45 seconds, then flashes 1 watt for about 2-3seconds). So i visited a friend who has the same laptop to test his ac adapter with mine, only problem was that his ac adapters power cord had 3 pins, due to that, i was unable to test the ac adapter's power cord with his or mine but when i connected his ac adapter to my laptop, and turned it on, it prompted me with the ac adapter warning, and when i booted into the dell diagnostics software, the ac adapter wattage stayed on 90 watts as it should. With this i know there is something wrong with either the whole ac adapter or the ac adapter's power cord.

My question is, why is it that at bootup, i still get greeted with the ac adapter wattage type cannot be determined error? I mean this error doesnt show up on my friends e6420. And if you must know, i use Ubuntu 14.04 as my default OS, though i have a Windows 8.0 installation too. Could that also be the cause? Just wondering...

BTW, my ac adapter is a 90 watts dell ac adapter PA-10 family, PA-1900-02D, DP/N: 9T215

M3800 Touchpad mouse button stuck

Hello,

I have an M3800 bought in April of 2015 whose left mouse button on the trackpad gets stuck.  When I push it down it will not physically pop back up.

Any suggestions for this? Should I replace or attempt to open up the laptop and see what's making this stick?
