Hi I'm new here.

I just wondering about the ram of this model.

Can I upgrade it up to 16GB ram? If yes what would you recommend? If no what is the maximum of this model?

Because I having problem played on GTA 5. It just suddenly close the game no errors. I already done updates drivers etc, and try other different patch of the game.

And some other games give me lag freeze or drop fps.

Here's the dxdiag infomation:

Hello Team,

Unfortunately I am facing many issues after purchasing this model.. :) Initially Dell service team had changed Cooling pad, Hard disk, etc..

Right now, I am facing an another issue "Makes Beep sound when I press power button and it won't Start" in my DELL XPS 1521 Model Laptop. After 6 to 7 attempts, it is getting started some times if i try with continuously pressing ESC button or F2 button.

Please help me guys.

I verified with Dell Service team in Koramangala, Bangalore, India. They are saying it's a Mother Board problem, needs to replace it.

I purchased this laptop from US in Nov/2013.

Kindly help me to resolve this issue with minimal cost.

Regards,

Mahesh

Dell Vostro 3700

Guys

I would like to install the Intel HAXM in order to run Android x86 emulators.  The HAXM installer tells me the PC meets the requirements but Intel Virtualization Technology (VT-x) is not turned on.

I have updated the BIOS to the latest release.

I have [Enabled] Intel Virtualization Technology on the Advanced tab of the BIOS settings.

I have used the CCTKGUI utility to [Disable] and then re-[Enable] the Intel Virtualization Technology setting.

No go.  Any ideas how I might fix this?

Thanks

Inspiron 17 5000-Series

To whom it may concern,

( English is not my native language, so please, bear with me if I make any mistakes.)

While in the UK, I bought a Inspiron 17 5000-Series. This happened in the December 2014. When I bought it, I also got a 1 year Accidental Damage Protection  alongside the 1 year Collect & Return Hardware Support included with your PC - Extended service.  I moved back to Romania in January.

Last week, I had a power surge that affected my whole apartment. After the power outage was fixed, I went back to my laptop to finish my work. The laptop seemed to be fine, it was only when I plugged back in the AC adapter that I've noticed that my Laptop was not charging . Checked the bios to see if the laptop "sees" the adapter. And, although it was plugged in, the bios was not "seeing" the adapter. Next, I ran the ePSA. It said that everything was ok, but it did not detect the AC adapter. When the battery hit the 10% mark I had to stop the ePSA.

As it was bought in the UK, my service tag was usable only in the UK. Got on my other laptop, and started a chat with a Costumer Service Chat. The person there, told me to transfer ownership to match my current country, Romania. I must say that, now, i deeply regret transferring the UK service tag for a Romanian one.

I called the support service from DELL Romania. The person that answered(Dell Bucharest) told me to go a Dell Service Representative ( I guess you would call that) that is at about 100 km from my city.

Went there, told them what the problem was. I asked them if the data from the hard drive would be affected in any way. They said that, they are Dell Representatives and they would never tamper with the my data. Left it there for about a week.

Today I got a call from the guys at the Service: " It's done, repaired, you can come after it. Just that... you have to reinstall your OS."

My first reaction was to ask why. He told me that they had changed the mother board and the charging module ( correct me if my translation was not accurate), and that, in order for my laptop to work I have to reinstall the OS. I told him that, as far as I know, changing the mother board/charging adapter, does not affect the hard drive. He did not like that I said. Moreover, kindly asked him to write on the serial numbers (or any identification numbers) that are present on the new parts that were put in laptop. The answer came very blunt:" Why do you need those? i have to reopen the laptop in order to do that!".

Next, I call back to Bucharest in order to find some answers. I ask the person there, how is it possible to get my laptop back with another problem, a problem that had nothing to do with the my hardware problem..... and then, pardon my word play "The chocolate hit the fan".  The answer sounded like this: " Listen, I don't see what is your problem. You only have to reinstall Win 8.1. Win 7 does not work ( treating me like an idiot)."  That's how the first call ended.

I'm not an IT specialist, although I deal with a lot of specialized texts every day, I called some friends that work in IT. Asked them if changing the motherboard/ charging module affects in any way the data that is located on the hard drive, or if after these changes, a full OS installation is needed. Both of them told me that the data on the hard drive should not have been damaged if the components were changed without making any mistakes.

After a few hours I decided to call back to Bucharest and try to find a solution for my problem. We all know how call-centers are, after a while they don't care about the costumer. I tell him the problem in detail. The first thing he says to me is " Why do you need to know the parts series/identification number?". Obviously I need them to be sure that was put back in laptop is what it should be there, not a cheaper part. Furthermore, if the parts are not original, and I have another problem with my laptop. What happens if I take my laptop to another Dell Service Point and the people from there tell me: " well, you see, these parts are not the ones that should have been here". What do I do then?

In the end, after asking him to let me talk to his superior/someone that could help me, he told me that I have to call back tomorrow.

Tomorrow I should go and take my laptop back from service, but if I do not have the series/id number of the new parts on the receipt, or my software part intact, I shall take it back until everything that is solved.

I must say that I am very disappointed with the costumer support that I got in the past days. I cannot accept this type of solving technical problems. I do not find it acceptable to be in this situation as long as I have 1 year Accidental Damage Protection  alongside the 1 year Collect & Return Hardware Support included with your PC - Extended service.

Due to the fact that i changed the ownership country to Romania, I cannot access DELL UK support. That was much better than what I have received here.  ( An e-mail address for UK support would be greatly appreciated)

I hope a solution can be found in order to solve this problem.

Best regards,

Cristian

A Laptop That can Support 3 Monitors

Hi,

I am helping my dad find a new laptop for work. He would like it to support 3 monitors (not including the laptop's screen). He usually has 10-15 tabs open at a time and 7-10 windows at a time. He currently has a 2009 3.1 GHz 4GB RAM PC, but it's getting to be verrrry slow.

Any advice for specs or recommendations would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Dell Inspiron N5110 powering on but not booting up after motherboard change.

I recently changed the motherboard on my N5110 as it wasn't booting up at all and was completely unresponsive. Since I substituted the old motherboard for the new one, it is now powering on but remains on a blank screen and only powers on when plugged into the charger. Also, the laptop beeps three times when powering on which seems to indicate a problem with the motherboard/system board even though it has just been replaced.

Does anyone have any fix to this? Many thanks.

Using Stylus with Hand Rested on Touch Screen (Inspiron 15 5548, Early 2015)

$

Hello,

A few days ago, I purchased a brand-new Dell Inspiron Signature Edition 15 (5548, Early 2015) computer running Windows 8.1 from the Microsoft Store as well as an Adonit Jot Pro stylus.  So far, I really like the computer and I find it to be a great laptop (especially for the price I paid), but i'm having one issue that i'm not 100% sure on how to fix. My computer is a touch screen computer, and I need to use the touch screen to take notes for school using OneNote. The Adonit Jot Pro stylus works pretty well, and I don't have any issues with the stylus itself. My issue is that I cannot write on the screen with my hand resting on the screen. When taking notes, I need to have my hand rested, as I cannot write well if my hand is hovering over the screen, but whenever I rest my hand on the screen and try to write using the stylus, OneNote draws a little bit where my hand is and a little bit where the stylus is. I cannot take any notes with my hand resting on the touch screen since it is recognizing both my hand and my stylus as touch inputs. Is there any way for me to fix this and be able to write with my stylus while resting my hand on the screen? From searching online, i've found people saying i'd need a certain HID compliant driver that would allow pen inputs, but i'm not sure if this would be the solution (and i'm not even sure where to download the driver from if I need one). Also, i've already reserved my free copy of Windows 10 for this computer, so when Windows 10 releases, I will be downloading it. Ideally, i'd need a fix that would be able to work with Windows 8.1 and Windows 10, if possible.

Information on my Computer (i'm not sure how much use this may be, but here it is anyways):

  • Operating System: Windows 8.1 (going to upgrade to 10 when it releases)
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-5200U @ 2.2Ghz (Hyper-Threading to 2.7Ghz, 2 Cores and 4 Threads, 3MB Cache)
  • RAM: 8GB DDR3 @ 1600Mhz
  • Hard Drive: 1TB Seagate Internal Hard Disk Drive

Thanks in advance! :)

1) The functionality just disappared. The inablity is the same for my older Sony Ericsson Arc LT15. They have both worked as expected for years. So strange!

Drives "re-installed" but it doesn't work since a few Days.

I tested an older laptop I have and it just works properly with that one. So the Telephones are OK. The problem must have occured in my Dell Vostro 3300 Win7-32.

2) At the same time I lost functionality for the FreeFall protection. What can I do?

Very thankful for advise how to "restore" the functionalies. All requested updates from Windows done.

Dell 3543 Touchpad Gestures Stop Working

$

There are more complaints about this on the board, so I want my complaint heard as well.  I bought my laptop back in March and since then, the touchpad works when it boots up, but after a while, the gestures (zoom and 2-finger scroll) stop working.  There are only two solutions to this.  Reboot, or go into Device Manager and disable/reenable Dell Touch Pad.

This problem could not be fixed by technical support and they sent me a replacement laptop.  Well, same issue.

I have updated all drivers as of yesterday and was excited as there was a newer version of the mouse driver than what I had.  Unfortunately, that did not fix the issue.

It has to be a driver issue as disabling and reenabling works.

On top of this, I requested a refund from Dell and they would not give me a refund because it had been more than 21 days since the original purchase per their return policy.  Well, all that time was trying to give Dell the benefit of the doubt and fix the problem and replace the laptop.  Still, I couldn't get any love from customer service, so I am stuck with a $400 machine that has unresolved problems.

I am very frustrated and just want this fixed so I can use the touchpad without any issues.  If there is anyone out there that works for Dell, your attention to this matter would be appreciated.  If you could have an engineer look at this, get a couple of 3543's fresh out of the box, I am sure you will run into this issue as well as I had two with this issue and the Internet is scattered with reports of this issue.

Problem with Alienware M17x R3 (Early 2011) turning on

$

I have been getting this problem quite a while now. When I turn the computer on sometimes the screen would turn black after the "Starting WIndows" screen and I would have to force shut it down and restart again. It often takes a few times of restarting to finally turn on the computer successfully. I just ignored this problem since I could still turn the computer on after a few tries. But recently it's been getting kind of annoying because sometimes I have to restart about 8 times to finally get it working and I really want to fix this problem. I tried installing different video card drivers and that didn't fix the problem; the black screen would just turn to a blue screen or something. I wonder what I could possibly try to solve this problem? Thank you for helping me out.
