Using Arctic Silver in XPS 13 9343

Do you think the CPU in the XPS 13 9343 will benefit from applying Arctic Silver thermal compound, or has anyone tried it?

On some of my previous laptops, applying the compound kept the CPU fan from turning on during small loads. I'm wondering if the 9343 will benefit in the same way.


Peculiar flaw in keyboard debouncing

I am having persistent problem with keyboard debouncing algorithm in Dell business laptops. (Mine being M4800, but I reckon Latitudes and some Vostros come with the same keyboard and the same corresponding routine in BIOS.)

I may be ‘too quick’ to hit the space-bar with my thumb right after typing another key.

The likely problem in the algorithm: As soon as it registers my hitting space, it terminates debouncing of the previous key. Yet that may still be “bouncing”… The other key then gets registered another time, after the space:

If I never rcorrected it, ,the outcome ewould dlook like ethis.

It does not happen that often, but it does happen often enough to affect my typing comfort and effectiveness.

The problem has persisted across several BIOS releases, irrespective of overall debouncing improvement between versions. I’m now on A14 (M4800).
Actually, I believe it somewhat worsened between A10 and A14 (I went from A10 to A14, skipping versions in between.)

Dell Inspiron 15 3542 unresponsive and freezing.

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 3542 Laptop and it just recently started running really slow. It was running fine about 6-7 days ago and then I started sharing my screen on skype, showing my friend something on a videogame. My computer froze, but my microphone and audio was working (I could still communicate to my friend). All he saw was a frozen screen because it was still sharing.

I decided to restart my laptop by holding down the power button for 10-15 seconds, which is the way I usually restart it. After I did that, it wouldn't get past the Dell splash loading screen. After taking out my battery and putting it back in that problem was gone, and it hasnt shown up ever since.

But the main issue is when I got past the splash screen it took longer that usual to boot (about 10-20 minutes). Being the patient man I am, i decided to wait it out and it started to work. I did what i usually did for about 3 hours until it froze again. I did the same procedure of what I did before and it was normal untill the log-in screen. I logged in and nothing loaded.

Skype opened automatically, like it usually does, but nothing loaded. Everything would open (the tabs) but wouldn't load, just a black white space. I decided to just let this all go and I didnt go on my laptop for about 3 or 4 days.

After the wait, I decided to boot my laptop. It loaded, logged in, and it wouldnt even open the tabs. The opening animation would work but nothing would show up, and eventually it would freeze and wouldnt unfreeze. I have restarted my computer like one million times and it does this problem everytime. I really need help as Im on my school laptop (a chromebook) and nearly all websites are blocked. So I cant really do anything untill this is fixed so I really need some assistance.

Summary:

My laptop completely freezes without unfreezing and I cant do anything like install anything or even open a tab. I can still open the f2 options before windows loads, so is there anything that I can do that fixes this issue within the f2 options?

The touchpad on my dell xps 15 9530 is not working. I replacement part. where can I purchase one? I believe the touchpad is same as in Dell Precision M3800.  The part number may be 2HFGW.

unsupported 16 bit app causing looping on reboot - 2 days into this

unable to log in to safe mode, or boot to cd - I tried every thing I have seen on forums - net users, f12 testing, f2 setup etc......... - initial issue unsupported 16 bit app msg taking me to logon process initialization failure msg - looping no way out - latitude e4310  - please help

Hi. I've got a problem with my fan in the Dell Inspiron 3521 laptop.

I have a preinstalled Windows 8 (which I upgrated to the 8.1 version) and there is no problem with fan control there. It behaves normally. But if I go to the BIOS, it suddenly gets mad and doesn't stop until I boot to Windows.

Ok, that wasn't a problem for me, because I don't often go to this menu. But I decided to install a Linux disto on my machine. Now the problem comes again.

When I'm in any Linux disto (live or installed system,  no matter) the fan turns at full speed and doesn't turn off anymore (until I go to Windows OS). It doesn't matter what a linux distro I use: Ubuntu, Elementary OS, Fedora.

What is the problem? I've searched the Internet on this problem, everyone recommended to upgrade the BIOS to the A06 version, but my BIOS is working with the A12 version, the latest version for this laptop.

Any thoughts on the problem?

No boot device found

Hey,  have a Dell Inspiron 5735 and I had to change the hard drive due to the old one being corrupted and now it says that no boot device is found. I also don't have a re-install disk since I never got around to making one. Do I need to get a new version of Windows 8 or something else?

Reset Happening Daily to Seagate Backup Plus External Drives

Dell Inspiron 5547 running Windows 8.1. 8GB Memory, 1TB internal hard drive.

I have 2 Seagate Backup Plus Drives, 5TB and 4TB. Both on USB 3.0 ports on the 5547 laptop. 

Every night Windows Event Viewer shows: 
12:01:02 Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort1, was issued. Source: UASPStor Event 129
12:02:02 Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort2, was issued. Source: UASPStor Event 129

This reset makes these drives "disappear" as in
Seagate Dashboard no longer sees them.
SeaTools for Windows no longer sees them.
Windows Explorer: when I try and browse to the drive/folders says: 

E Is not accessible. The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error. 

I: Is not accessible. The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error. 

The only thing that makes the drives available is a reboot. When I reboot Dashboard and SeaTools sees them.
The next day at 12:01 / 12:02am the reset happens again.
I've searched Windows Task Scheduler and can't seem to find a job that is causing the resets. 

Anyone have any ideas?

I'm confused about what locks work with the XPS 13 (2015) laptop. It says it has a Noble lock slot. Can I only use locks from Noble company? Will any of their wedge locks work? or are there different sizes of wedge locks?

I would like to buy a 12V DC power adapter for my XPS 13 (9343) Developer Edition, possibly a high-end one from Lind. But I cannot find a specification for the input voltage to the XPS 13. The OEM AC adapter has a 19.5 V output, but I would like to find a true specification, e. g. 19.5V +/- 1.0 V. The Lind DC adapters have an output voltage of 20 V (don't know what tolerance). Is this acceptable? Has someone actually seen a real spec from Dell?

Hi.  Will appreciate any help...  Reinstalling Windows XP on Dell 6400.  I am to the point of reinstalling drivers who must be in the right order.  Got the wifi one ok obviously.  Then battery needed replacement... The message from Rashan ? on the order to reinstall the drivers got lost.  Any one with experience ??


Inspiron 7548 - Alt + num shortcuts?

I've just received my new Inspiron 7548, and while happy with it, I hadn't realised what the lack of a number pad would mean. I'm an editor, and use the Alt + num shortcuts for such symbols as em and en dashes... but they don't work on this keyboard.

I'm not a fan of the character map--just too slow and cumbersome--and use such shortcuts as Alt + 0151 (em dash) frequently.

What's more, I can't even find a 'numlock' or 'scroll lock' on the keyboard.

Can anyone help? If I have to revert to the character map, I will seriously be considering returning the laptop!

Hi, I have an Inspiron 6400 and it says there is no wireless controller. First i was thinking that maybe the problem was the driver, but I think it isnt, there simply isnt a controller, or maybe I need to install the driver? I dont know...

My dell inspiron 15r 5521 laptop motherboard is dead. It is not under warrenty. I checked it with 2 laptop repair shops and they said it cannot be repaired I have to buy a new Motherboard. I want to know how much it costs a motherboard? and where i can get it from dell support centre? Thanks

Is there any way to middle click in Windows 10?  I know it has a precision trackpad with Windows only drivers, but if anyone's running Windows 10, can you middle click?

It seems its application crash. Please run the diagnostics on the computer by following the steps mentioned in the video below and check if there is any issue with the hardware on your system.
Also, I would suggest you to run a thorough test on the system. You can download Support Assist from the link below and run the PC CHECKUP to check for issues
