Inspiron 11 3147 "plugged in, not charging"

My Inspiron 11 3147 has stopped charging. The adapter seems to be working just fine though, after one hiccup where it said "Adapter type cannot be determined".

Steps I have taken to try and fix this problem:

- Inspect the connections on the charger, they seem to be fine.

- Inspect the external area of the charger connection on the laptop, it seems to be fine.

- Go into the BIOS and check for adapter warnings. None.

- Go into the BIOS and try all the charger settings. Nothing changes.

- Uninstall the battery from Device Manager. Reboot. Nothing changes.

- Uninstall the AC adapter from Device Manger. Reboot. Nothing changes.

- Physically remove and reinstall the battery itself. Nothing changes.

In the BIOS, it says that the adapter is 65 W, and since there are no more errors about the adapter besides the one that popped up in Windows, and has not returned.

I feel like it might be the battery that has just stopped allowing a charge. Does anyone have any advice?

Depot Repair question

I received my laptop back from a depot repair, and while the hard drive was replaced, so too was the entire frame. This meant new USB ports... Now I cannot use a device which I need to properly (and with slightly better speed) browse the internet (As I am currently using throttled phone internet) Is there an adapter I can buy that will allow me to connect my USB modem? Cause tethering to a throttled phone data plan is quite bothersome.

Problem with network adapter

I have an ongoing problem with a 3521 laptop wifi connection which sometimes takes 30 minutes to make connection with my home wifi. I mistakenly lost one of the 2 Network Adapters by deleting the driver in device manager in an attempt to fix the problem and am left only with the Realtek one.

Could anyone let me know how to retrieve the adapter (the Dell one). I have tried downloading the latest driver with no luck. I need to know how to find the adapter (am assuming it is hardware) and get it working again.

I have tried the online diagnosis at the official Dell site and it does not even pick up the problem.

Many Thanks

Does replacing the screen solve the problem?

I've had my Inspiron 7347 for a few months and it goes haywire. I haven't been able to go through a diagnostic with Dell yet, but after reading all the posts, I have yet to see a resolution to my exact problem. Although my computer is usable, it's unacceptable that this happening after barely having it 4 months.

Any advice?

Quickset - Specify custom charge limits?

Hi,

I just installed Dell Quickset and enabled desktop mode. I'd like to modify the upper charge limit to something other than 100%; for example, I'd like the battery to only charge to, say, 80% full, or 90% full.

I don't see any way of achieving this through the quickset gui. Is there any other way I could do this? Some .ini file I could edit or some other tweak? Or maybe a registry edit?

Thanks in advance!

E6420 Error code 2000:0122

Hi,

I just had a problem with my system BSoD'ing  I T-shot down the issue to the memory.  I ran the ePSA tests and it errored out on the memory.  I rebooted the system and got an error:

No physical memory is available at the location for the Windows Boot Manager. The system can not start

I booted into the BIOS and the memory showed as there.

I had some old memory sims that I installed and the system booted but are too small for my usage

I purchased new memory and installed it.

I booted and got the same No physical memory is available error.

I reinstalled the old memory and successfully ran the ePSA tests.

I removed the old and installed the new memory and booted to the no memory error.

I know the new memory is good so how do I clear out the error in the ePSA?

I have already pulled the CMOS battery and the did not work.

Any ideas?

The laptop went to sleep and it stopped powering on after that. I have tried all the methods specified in the knowledge base but none seem to work. Also, I cannot remove my battery as it is internal and I cannot open it.

Please help me with this.

IE runs extremely slow and locks up

$

I have a 4 day old Inspiron 15 5000 running Windows 8.1 and IE 11. While using IE 11 web pages load extremely slow, at times >2 mins to load pages, locks up constantly, can't scroll or use the back button and other normal features because it locks up so frequently and often has to recover webpages. I have not downloaded any programs, just what was loaded straight out of the box. It is so slow using IE 11 that I use my iPhone to surf the web and I shouldn't have to as this is a brand new laptop. Please help.

Battery 'Permanent Failure' After Powercfg Report

$

Hello,

I was using an XPS 15, and a few minutes after running 'powercfg -energy' in Windows 7 and generating a battery report to see the capacity of the battery, the orange battery light started blinking. I performed dell diagnostics which stated the battery has experienced a 'permanent failure'. This came completely out of the blue, seemingly triggered by Windows battery diagnostic utility.

What are the options for fixing this issue? If the generated report of the battery is relevant, let me know and I will post it. Will the battery potentially fix itself, or will it need replacing? Is Microsoft liable for replacement?

Thanks

Locked Out of Dell Inspiron 1012 Mini

Hi there,

I have a Dell Inspiron 1012 Mini laptop. I recently changed the password to my laptop, and didn't write it down, now I don't remember it and I have no chance of ever remembering the password. I would like to do a factory reset on my laptop, I've been told I can do so by hitting the F8 key and doing a system repair. After doing that, it told me I needed to log in to do a factory reset. I've tried going into the advanced options and such and I can't reset it, I can't crack the password, and I can't put in a reset disk because there is no disk drive on my laptop. Any suggestions? I've tried most things. I don't want to go to a store to do anything if at all possible, I'd like to try and fix it myself.

screen and LVDS cable replacement on a Latitude E5500

$

These questions are very specific so bear with me.

I have an old E5500 with a WXGA (1280X800) screen and I want to replace it with a WXGA+ (1440X900) one since some of these Latitude models came with it. The same LVDS cable (part ID DW622) is used for both so it shouldn't be a problem.

Thing is, my unit is one the newer ones and some of the components are different (at least according to Dell), namely the LVDS cable (ID 72W6R). Will this still work? Because I'm not sure which cable the 'newer' WXGA+ units use. If not, can I just replace mine with an older DW622 one or are they specific to the mobo?

Regarding the screen itself, the actual part is a LTN154BT05 (JC99C) but I found a good deal where I live on a B154PW01 and, according to some eBay sellers and laptopscreen, it has the same size, backlight, connector and is indeed compatible with the E5500, but is there any way to know for sure?

Thanks for the help.

Dell AC Adapter P/N:FWCRC Failed to charge & is now dangerous - Alienware M17X R4

$

I'm disgusted with the lack of help I have recently received from India and Costa Rica when trying to get in touch with Dell in Canada or the US re a safety issue with my charger

Many upset owners of the Alienware M17X R4 have had issues with the computer not recognizing the charger

I went through this for a very very long time.

Now the charger is damaged where the cord joins the connector that plugs into the back of the computer.

The insulation has broken and the insulation on the wires inside has worn away so the wires are arcing/sparking when plugged in

India and Costa Rica don't see this as a manufacturing flaw when it clearly is.  It is also a safety hazard that can kill someone by starting a fire

No one at Dell wants to help so I have contacted the Canadian Government to report an unsafe product

I will be contacting UL (Underwriter Laboratories) to do the same

Fix your *** Dell or face a worldwide recall...I've had enough
