Dell XPS 13 Amber flashing light and 'alarm' sound - will only turn on when plugged in even though battery is over 10%

I bought a new XPS 13 just over one month ago.

On a few occasions now I've had problems turning it on if it isn't plugged in. Basically when I press the on switch, the amber critical battery light starts flashing, accompanied by a very loud 'alarm' type noise. It happened again this morning. I was able to switch the laptop on by plugging it in, but when it did come on it showed that the battery was at 32%, well above the 10% critical level at which the amber light should be flashing. Generally, the battery life isn't what I hoped it would be, averaging about 4-5 hours before I have to plug in.

I'm concerned I might have a motherboard problem and would be grateful for some pointers.

I have been trying to get into my Inspiron Duo for days now but can only use it as a guest. My Microsoft account password isn't recognised and I have been unable to reset it despite trying several times. I hoped to try something else but it keeps asking for an administrator password. I don't remember ever setting one. Can anyone help. I would have done a factory reset but can't. It originally came with Windows 7 loaded but I upgraded to windows 8.1.

Hi guys,

I have recently brought this laptop from a friend when I got it it still looks brand new.

I have just one concern and that is I think it should be performing better than what it his bearing in mind it has an Intel I5-2520m processor and 8gb of ram..

I don't know whether I'm just expecting too much from this laptop just I've had lower spec laptops perform a lot better before.

The CPU usage is constantly jumping around it's never stable. I have also monitored the CPU temperatures and they reach up to 80 degrees celsius just using google chrome alone I have tried other browsers and get the same result.

Also I notice that the clock of the processor fluctuates from 798mhz to 3199mhz I wondered if this could also be my problem?

BIOS is reset to factory and updated all latest drivers :)

All scanned no viruses or malware/adware.

I really hope you guys can help me!

I have a Dell Latitude E7440 laptop running windows 7 (64 bit) Operating System.

When I hover over several thumbnails in the taskbar...they disappear too quickly to make a choice. When I hover over the thumbnails, they are supposed to stay but they do not and I cannot click on them to restore the window back.

I tried rebuilding the system and updated all the drivers and still same. No Luck.

Grateful, if you could provide any suggestions to rectify this?

Recently I noticed that my XPS 13 laptop's keyboard is hot to the touch. The closer to the screen that I touch, the hotter it is.

I can hear my fan turning on, but apparently it's not working.

What is the procedure here.

Latitude 3450 touchpad issues

Anyone else find the touchpad on the Latitude 3450 to be a huge step backward from the 3440? 3440 touchpad has a solid feel with separate buttons. Works beautifully - responsive without being sensitive.

The 3450 is a button integrated overly touchy touchpad that feels like cheap plastic compared to the very solid 3440. I have played with all the settings and still get very erratic behavior from it.

I'm having troubles with my webcam. My HD crashed several weeks ago so i installed a new Samsung SSD 840 EVO. Installed Windows 7 Ultimate but my webcam isnt working anymore, its detected in my hardware list but i cant seem to find any Dell drivers for it? This is my laptop

I bought DELL VOSTRO 2420 laptop 2 years ago. now a days, i'm facing a irritating problem. When i turn my laptop on, i see my touchpad not working. after using external mouse, i uninstall the touchpad driver i again install it . after restart it, everything becomes ok.

But , after shutdown when i turn on, the same thing occurs, mouse pointer gets freeze -_- .

what should i do ?

ps - some buttons of my laptop's keyboard (qweruiop) stopped working before the touchpad incident.

Hi everyone,

So I'm on my second Dell XPS 13 owing to the first one having had a hardware audio issue.
Having shelled out a significant amount of cash I'm disappointed to say that the second unit has its own issues, illustrating poor build quality/QA.

The spacebar key is slightly slanted and sometimes catches it's surround, and also the bezel around the screen, albeit small, is becoming stuck around the issues.

Also there's the backlight bleed issue which others have had.

What are my options? Do I have to send off to Dell again?! Really disappointed, won't be buying Dell again, haven't had a good experience with them for personal laptops.

I was given a N7010 with win7 64b. I restored it and the file was corrupted. I contacted DELL and they sent out the recovery cd with only the os on it. They said that I would have to download the drivers as needed. I thought that was going to be no problem. However it is a HUGE problem. I downloaded the files exactly like someone in this forum from dell suggested and I still can't seem to get it to work. It doesn't recognize the network adaptors so I can't connect to the internet. without the internet I can't do anything with it and it can't be updated. I am at my wits end with this. Can someone please help me? Thank you so much in advance.

My laptop which was working fine save for sudden error messages which I did not pay attention to is not starting up. Earlier the indicator showing charging was switched on with all other indicators off. Now when I plug my AC Adapter which shows green into the laptop the charging white indicator turns briefly on and switches off.

My Laptop does not respond at all when I try to switch off. Please help if anyone can

Hello everyone and Dell!

I just purchased a xps 15 9530, with core i7, 16gb of ram and 1.0tb of hdd, no ssd. The laptop is fantastic in all aspect like display, keyboard, and surprisingly heat management in this compact laptop.

BUT, After a few days of use I had noticed a strange, high pitch noise from from the upper left corner where the AC adapter is plugged in. The noise is a low volume but high pitch coil whine, that is not significant, but very very annoying when used in silent.

I did some research and found out this is very common in this laptop. But a lot of the discussion is very dated.

I wonder, currently is there any solution to this problem? To Dell or anyone with this experience.!

Unique Battery Trouble

So I have a unique "Plugged in, not charging" scenario. I have a Alienware m18x. The charger will work and supply power to the computer no matter what but will only actually charge the battery if I wiggle it around. The wiggling has to be done immediately after I plug it into my computer and only works maybe one in three times.

The other odd aspect is that when I run a Windows Experiences assessment Index, the assessment won't finish, after twenty or so seconds says it can't be done on battery, and turns off my charger (no more light or power), and the charger will only comeback on if I unplug and replug it into the wall.

The only troubleshoot I have done is remove and place back in my battery. Also, I have reinstalled my ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery in the device manager but this didn't help anything. Let me know what to do now. Thanks.

factory setup manager is not working, this problem appears when i was installing dell backup and recovery software setup complete and then new window appears Updating PE Environment, after 10 secs pop up shows that factory setup manager stop working

I am unable to refresh or resetting my pc, When i reset pc , it restarts and then black screen appears than my pc restarts again without refresh

My laptop is 4 years old. Suddenly, it gave strong burning smell. I switched of my computer immediately. And started it after two days. However, the moment I started it, that pungent smell was back. What could be reasons for it?
