Driver Questions Inspiron 17 7746

Hi All. I just received my Inspiron 17 7746 laptop yesterday. I had also purched Avangate 3rd party softwafe. Anyway, when I was talking to the Avangate tech on the phone he remoted to my computer to check it out and he said there were many windows security services not running, that the PC should have came with a disk to all stall all these. The laptop I ordered did not come with any disks he said I would have to go to the Microsoft store with the laptop and have them fix this for a fee of about 250.

What are these services?

Should the PC had come with disks?

Is my new PC in danger of having issues.

Any info y'all can provide would be great.

Thanks

Jim

Possible to Upgrade Dell Inspiron 13 7000 Series Battery?

0

Is it possible to upgrade the Dell Inspiron 13 7000 Series' battery, which is a 43 WHr, 3-Cell Battery, to a battery that will last longer? The Inspiron on its standard battery only averages around 6 hours of battery life whereas the XPS 13, with the 52 WHr, 4-Cell Battery, averages 8-12 hours (depending on the model)? Will a 52 WHr, 4-Cell Battery fit in an Inspiron? If not, is there any other way to upgrade it?

Thanks

I have a Dell Inspiron 1521 laptop that only has the WIFI card installed.

I had read somewhere online where one of the other two slots could be used for a mini pcie SSD or whatever the card is called?

If so which card would work and which slot would I use?

Alienware 14 Completely Dead

Hey guys,

I purchased an Alienware 14 about a year and a half ago and i have been loving everything about the computer. It runs everything i throw at it, is made very well and has been having absolutely no problems... unitl now.

I was recently laying in bed browsing the internet, when randomly both my alienware and power cord completely lost power. When i say that they both lost power i mean that my screen went black, the light by the power button that is usually lit up when plugged in had no color, and my power cord that usually has a blue light around the tip to show that its receiving power went off too. This was really weird to me, especially relating to the power cord, because even when ive unplugged it in the past, the blue light would slowly fade away and not immediately go out.

My initial reaction was that my electricity went out, but throughout this whole ordeal i had a fan running on the same power strip with no problems. This leads me to believe that my power cord shorted out while plugged into the computer and likely fried something internally. As a side note, i put my voltimeter on the power cord and as soon as i touch the outside ring and inside prong the power cord completely dies (the light turns off immediately) just like when my computer died in the first place.

Since this happened, ive tried: a power cord from a friends alienware laptop, leaving it plugged in all night, taking the battery out with the power cord plugged in, taking it apart piece by piece and checking for any obvious signs of a problem, and blowing out the computer. All to no avail. I know i can purchase a replacement power cord as well as the motherboard power harness easily enough but before i shell out additional money I want to make sure this is going to fix the problem (which i don't believe it will).

Can somebody give me some advice on what my next course of action should be? Of course its out of warranty (even though i emailed dell about extending the warranty months ago and never heard back), so i'm a little scared of sending it in for service because i'm sure its gonna cost a lot of money to fix. However, if thats what i have to do then so be it. Thanks for any help and reading this really long post.

DELL 7548 Cannot wake from USB when lid is closed

In BIOS, wake from USB is enabled. OS is preinstalled windows 8.1 with all original or updated drivers.

It seems this problem occurs in many DELL laptops. The only solution available is to wait DELL to update BIOS. Therefore I create this post to ask DELL update BIOS for 7548 if possible.

Problem with charging battery

Hi, I'm experiencing a perplexing problem with the power on my Inspiron 14 7447. Just last night, despite being plugged in to AC power, the laptop switched to the battery with the plugged in symbol disappearing from my battery icon.

Upon plugging-in, removing, and checking the connections and finding nothing wrong. (all lights that are supposed to be on, are on), I ultimately shut the laptop down as the battery was slowing draining (normal rate)... now the odd thing, the power light came on when the laptop shut down (indicating that the AC power was working again), I turned the power on and the power light turned off (went back to battery power and not charging), I shut down the unit, and the power light came on again.

Upon turning the unit on thereafter, everything booted up and ran normally, and the icon returned to a normal looking battery with the plugged in symbol. Battery was used up to 75%. Now the problem... I've left it plugged in for several hours and even now as I write this, the power is also plugged in, but the battery, despite the "plugged in, charging" message is not going up from the 75% that it was at for over 7 hours already.

All the indicators and meters indicate that it is charging, but it's still at 75% until now. I'm sure that there is something wrong, but cannot isolate the problem exactly. Can you offer any help on this please?

P.S. This unit was purchased about 2 months ago.

Laptop Display Shows Split Screen on Built in Display only

Inspiron 1440 With Windows 7 Professional installed. I lent it to a friend and she complained that the screen was showing  blank, prior to that there was nothing unusual.  When I brought it home I first hooked it to a monitor and it showed the windows select operating system screen. The external monitor shows a normal desktop.  From there I was able to changed the settings to get it to use the built in display but the screen is only 3/4 of the way across and then a small space and the left hand side of the screen is duplicated on the right hand side of the display. No updates of programs were installed when the problem started. System restore was applied to before the problem started but that did not change anything.

When I tried to boot to safe mode it first booted to the monitor but then the same thing. I could change it to the built in display but with the same results. Booting to the bios set up was the same. However when I did the hold "D" key down while pressing start then the built in display appeared to work properly.

There is no roll back option showing for either the display adapter or the display in device manager. When I go to the Dell analyze site it says that there is a update to the adapter driver but when I go to install it then windows says I am using the most up to date driver.

The bios appears to be up to date.

Dell Inspiron 15 3521 won't start -- black screen but power light is on

The laptop will no longer turn on, and I just get a black screen, but there is no problem with the power supply as the light comes on.  Further information:

  • The power light comes on when the cable is plugged in
  • The battery charging light comes on when the battery is in place
  • The fan comes on after pressing the power button, but the screen remains blank and the laptop does not boot
  • The HDD light flickers on briefly at the start
  • I have tried removing battery & power and holding the power button down for 15-30secs to reset memory, but this doesn't help
  • I have tried reseating the memory
  • I have tried starting the laptop with memory and HDD removed, but I get the same symptoms
  • Plugging into a external monitor via HDMI gives no signal

Can anyone help or suggest anything else to try?  For the last few months I have had power problems, with the laptop occasionally turning itself off at random, or difficulty starting up (usually resolved after a few minutes with a long button press etc).

Many thanks in advance!

AC/DC Adapter wearing out?

Hi everyone,

I own a Dell XPS L502X laptop. Already since a few years my graphics card (Nvidia 540m) has been crashing on 3D applications, especially games. (Seems to be a pretty common problem)

I temporarily solved the apparently widespread problem by underclocking the GPU. However it's been getting worse and worse over time and I've been required to underclock the card more and more. Currently it's barely of any use anymore and close to the performance of an internal stock card.

Worth mentioning is the fact that when in battery mode the card can work on full load and without underclocking perfectly. Only if I plug the laptop in, it crashes withing 1-2 minutes.

Today someone told me that my AC power adapter is probably worn out and replacing it would fix the problem completely.

Is this true? I got no clue how the voltages and power supply aspect of a laptop work, so I figured I would ask here for help before trying to find a replacement.

Cheers

PS: My AC/DC Adapter is from the PA-4E Family

Dell 15 3000 series: states hard drive not installed

I bought my boyfriend a DELL Inspiron15 3000 series October 2014 and this weekend it opens with a message stating the hard drive isn’t installed.

Since the laptop isn’t even a year old yet is it covered under a warranty?

If so what do we need to do about getting the laptop serviced/replaced.
