Inspiron 5548 - Dual video card

$

Hello,

Can somebody help me understand the rationale of having the laptop running video using the integrated Intel graphics card when the laptop is supposed to come with a R7 M240 card with 4Mb of dedicate memory? Why is the integrated card not turned off, actually it seems to be the one controlling graphics. How do you switch from one to another (in my desktop I remember one time adding a PC-express card required to turn off the integrated card from BIOS-CMOS, but in the BIOS of this Inspiron I don;t see any reference to video card selection).

I already had to help myself repairing issues of computer logging -off when connecting to a second monitor (thanks to community instructions; unbelievable Dell doesn't fix it prior to shipping), and fixing this required forced update of the Intel integrated card, which clearly says it is the one controlling the laptop's graphics.... why? Why not the dedicated memory card R7 M270 with 4Gb memory? How do I address this? Am I missing somethig?

Thanks

Dell XPS17 left click not working

A few days ago, the left click button on the built in touchpad stopped working, and the right click was hard to get to work without pressing it just right. Took it apart, cleaned out the mouse circuit but that didn't help. Bought a replacement and it fixed the right click but not the left.

Tried reinstalling the driver, and looking at some other google results but nothing seems to work, and most of the results were about work arounds rather than actual fixes.

Everything seems to point to it being a hardware issue, but even after replacing the hardware didn't fix the problem.

My system is Dell XPS17 with windows 7

Out of warranty laptop.

Purchased Dec. 2012.

The laptop will not power on.  I have the same exact laptop in working condition.  I have changed out the battery and the adapter with the other computer.  The laptop will still not power on.  Both adapters and both batteries work fine in the working laptop.

I have followed the instructions in other threads:  removed the battery, removed the memory, removed the hard drive and reseated all of the components.  The computer will not power on.

Any other suggestions for getting this to power up?  It belongs to my college student and he is stressing out.

Is the motherboard under a recall or having an unusual number of failures?

What is the cost to have the motherboard replaced?

Thanks!

Inspiron 11 3000 series is terribly slow and frustrating

Hi,

I bought this laptop just a week ago and I'm already fed up now.
It is too slow. I can't open 3 tabs at once.

Once I open a simple news site and then google and then another site, it becomes soooo slow and loads forever. Very frustrating. I have had to restart my system every 15 mins. This is the worst I have seen of DELL.

Please what should I do?

No one can find my serial  number or service tags. I have a battery that never worked and because my computer doesn't existing no one will help me. I have a inspiron 17r-7720

Anyone have any idea what I can do to get help from Dell..... I will post my thoughts below.

Thanks

Scott

========================================

I purchased a dell laptop a couple years ago, its a long story but it sat in the box unopened for almost 2 years. Has to do with an insurance claim and I had to make the purchase before I really needed it to satisfy the insurance company.

Anyway, I didn't think I would have any problems, time slipped by but I had purchased plenty of dell products before and they all worked, for the most part, pretty good. Their service was outstanding.

I purchased this computer online thru BestBuy.com

Well, I opened this thing up the other day and plugged in it and tried to fire it up.

It wouldn't turn on because i got an error message about the battery not being recognized and was not a dell battery.

Well, there's Dell printed all over the battery, the laptop and battery are brand new and never been out of the box.

I finally was able to turn the computer on via the charger and pressing f1 at a specific time. It still did not recognize the battery.

I figured I would go to the Dell site and check out my options. First I  had to register the computer on the Dell site. I entered my Service Tag and Dell did not recongnize it. The other service number express service code wasn't recognized either. So I downloaded an app from the Dell site that was supposed to search the computer for the Express code. Once downloaded it did its thing and said that my computer did not exist.

I contacted Dell support and tried to explain the situation.

After they ran all numbers including serial number they told me that Dell had no record of my computer.

Now....I could just try to buy a new battery and be done with it, but its really weird that Dell is telling me my computer doesn't exist. I ended up calling about 3 other Dell numbers, all told me the same thing and told me that it was Best Buys responsiblility. I tried emailing Dell, I tried calling again only to be told the same thing.....sir, I never experienced this but we have no record of your computer.

I really wanted to register the computer on Dell site so I could take advantage of all the benefits that Dell has regarding my computer. Drivers, apps, upgrades etc. I could not register my computer because it did not exist and no one from Dell seemed to give a rip. I was not looking for a free battery...even though it was never used and did not work in the computer, I realize the warranty period has expired.

So...off to BestBuy

Same *** with BestBuy and their Geek Squad.

"Sir, we can't find any record of this computer and its codes and serial numbers.

I called a couple of times to different places at Best Buy with no luck.

So.....there are a few BestBuy stores in my area, I took the computer in and talked to Geek guys, store managers and anyone I could get to listen to me.....same story, they couldn't do anything because they couldn't come up with the numbers and codes. But they did tell me to come back when I wanted to buy something else and they would take care of me.

I will never buy anything from Best Buy again.

I will never buy anythig from Dell again.

I was mistreated, this is a weird situation but no one wants to help. I have spent 1,000's of dollars at both Best Buy and Dell, but never again. In fact I just purchased an Epson printer, could have gotten it a little quicker and cheaper at Best Buy but I purchased on Amazon.

All I can do now is find some of those sites that allow you to share your story to embarass a particular vendor for lack of service or *** product. I'm posting here wondering if anyone has every run across this and wondered if someone might know where I could get the issure resolved on Dell.

So I'm stuck with a brand new computer that has a non functioning battery. To turn the computer on and off I have to plug and unplug the power cord and wait to get a message that tells me to press f1.....ok, its broke, things break, I  get it.  But then my computer doesn't exist, no serial number, no serice tags.....and no one cares.

Thanks

Scott

Inspiron 1712 Laptop

I have recently got going my Inspiron 1712 which is about 10 years old.

It worked well for a couple of weeks but now the screen has failed, due to the graphics card, which is apparently an integral part of the motherboard.

Are there any other options rather than a new motherboard?  If not, without opening the laptop up, how do I find out a compatable motherboard?

Cheers, dave

Random clicks on DELL Inspiron 3135 touch screen

$

I've been using it since 2014 june, but after 2015 january my touch screen often behaves erratically at random moments. Suddenly it will start registering clicks that are not there. I can see the clicks being registered by dots on the screen that normally indicate where I touch the screen with my fingers. Those dots appear out of nothing, when I'm not touching the screen, and randomly menus are opened, programs closed, etc. It's incredibly annoying.

Does anyone know a solution to this? I never use touch screen because I use a wireless mouse and keyboard for this.

Elan (elantech) touchpad is awfully bad compared to Synaptics

I've been using laptops for ~10 years now. Always without external mouse.

I had one or two Acers, a Dell and now, a Dell Vostro 5470 bought in Brazil (the land of Petrobras, waiting for the future - I can say that, I was born here).

Well, the point is: all my previous machines had Synaptics' touchpads that always functioned properly. Now I got an Elantech. And it is such a piece of  .... Here is a list of defects:

+ sensitivity to grounding (the cursor shakes)

+ the touchpad misses finger movements (it does not sense the finger as the previous touchpads were capable of);

+it also misses clicks / double clicks - the timing is awful.

Sensitivity, speed and other parameters: no matter how bad I tried to juggle with the values, I never obtained a good configuration.

Do you have an Elantech touchpad? Do you hate it too? Tell us about it...

Dell Venue 11 pro battery issues / warranty refused

Hello,

One of our Dell Venue 11's is experiencing weird issues with the battery.

This system is equipped with a 32Wh battery (Dell p/n 9MGCD).

Windows reports the battery capacity to be 32mWh. It had some battery life issues since day 1, but as the system kind of functioned and was needed these were ignored.

A couple of weeks ago, the system stopped functioning completely on battery. It still worked fine on AC and through the Dell Mobile keyboard (that has it's own battery) though. Windows still showed the internal battery as present and 100% charged. Dell's own diagnostic tool (Dell Command power) showed the battery to be in top-notch condititon and fully charged. The bios showed correct voltage levels for the battery.

However, upon disconnecting the battery the tablet immediately turns off.

We did some investigation of our own prior to calling Dell. Windows powercfg shows the following battery statistics:

As you can see the desing capacity fluctuates and all capacities are in mWh, not in Wh. So about a 1000 times less then expected. On another Venue 11 and a venue 8, none of this happens. It is stable and displays correct values.

One would think that Dell would quickly solve this under warranty. System has CAR warranty until Januari 2016. However, after having picked up the system, they now claim that this is not under warranty. They can't tell why. They might exclude normal battery wear , but based on the output from powercfg /batteryreport it seems clear to me that this was present since the day the system was delivered.

Has anyone experienced similar issues with a Venue 11?

Bizarre keyboard behavior

$
0
0

NOTE: I posted the following to the Microsoft support forums but have not yet received a response there.

Since last night, my keyboard has been acting very strangely.

The square bracket keys do nothing when pressed with my left shift key; I can only get curly brackets if I press the right shift key.

However, the opposite is true for the letters z, x, c, v, m, and the comma and period. They only work with my left shift key, and do nothing when pressed with my right shift key.

Using the on-screen keyboard, I can verify that pressing left-Ctrl or left-Shift individually is recognized by the system - but if I hold down left-Ctrl and left-Shift together, it only sees left-Ctrl. Similarly, if I'm holding down right-Ctrl and right-Shift together, it only sees right-Shift, even though both are recognized individually. If I try to hold down left-Ctrl and right-Shift together, whichever one I pressed first is recognized, and the second is ignored. However, right-Ctrl and left-Shift are recognized as a combination, though Ctrl-Shift-Tab doesn't work regardless.

Earlier, holding down Shift+5 and Shift +6 gave me capital M and capital V, respectively, when using my left shift; when using my right shift, I got capital T and capital Y instead. This is no longer true; now, it doesn't recognize that I'm pressing 5 or 6 at all with shift, but it recognizes me pressing each shift individually and the 5 and 6 individually.

Left shift and T don't work together, but right shift and T do. Right shift and C don't work together, but left shift and C do.

The above is not even close to the full list of bizarre working and non-working combinations, but it will do for now.

Normally I'd suspect a hardware problem - maybe I spilled water on the keyboard without realizing it or something. But unless I'm mistaken, that shouldn't stop key combinations from working when each key works individually...

Anybody have a clue what's going on? I am using a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 series, with Windows 8.1. I've tried rebooting, and I tried uninstalling the keyboard from Device Manager with an eye to reinstalling it afterwards, but it just got reinstalled automatically upon reboot.

Latitude 3340 with D3000 USB Port Replicator

When using this setup (Dell Latitude 3340 with a D3000 Link Adapter port replicator) all works fine. From time to time, when using the laptop by itself, I cannot wake it up or shut it down. I literally have to pop the battery out for a moment and then I can restart my computer.

This does not happen all the time...but it's awfully inconvenient when you're in a meeting with your boss and this happens.

I have upgraded BIOS, and all drivers...to no avail. This only happens if it has been connected to the D3000 port replicator. If I plug power directly to the laptop, I cannot recreate the problem.

Suggestions? Has anybody else run across this issue?

I have the latitude e4300 laptop and want to start gaming on it.

I recently bought The Evil Within and was unable to play it due to a not so good Graphics Card.

Is it possible to upgrade it?

If so, can you recommend a good graphics card to get?
