XPS 13 9343 Custom Charging

I'm trying to use the custom charging options within BIOS (version A03) to control my battery charging. I have set it to start charging when the battery dips to 50% and stop charging at 80%. However, I have never seen it actually work. It just charges all the way up to 100%.

Does anyone know if custom charging (or for that matter adaptive charging, standard charging etc. as listed in the BIOS) works for the XPS 13 9343's battery?

Hi! I am trying to enhance the security of my brand new DELL and I would like to disable the CDROM / USB boot support and to be able to configure it only with a password in the UEFI menu (I have already set the password).

Any suggestions to prevent USB or CD ROM boot?

BTW, I am using the latest BIOS, A03

Heat sink Problem with inspiron 5520 15R

hello , as the title suggests there is a problem with my heat sink it works normally when u start the laptop 
most of dell laptops once starting u would hear the heat sink so im sure its working because it does that the problem is when the windows starts up it doesn't operate its at a complete stop i cleaned i cleaned the vents so im sure its not that but what i have in my mind is the processor paste might be the problem so im wondering if that can cause the heat sink to fully stop operating because the temperature isn't delivered to the temperature sensor ?
im an engineer i know how to tear my laptop apart in case i need to apply that paste just want to make sure before i open it

Hi all,

here is my experience: my new Alienware 13" was laggy since the first time with all internet browsers. After re-installing the system and updating the firmware and all the drivers, the problem was still there. In the end I understood that the problem was generated by the Killer Network Manager: after having disintalled this program, every problem has disappeared. If you have the same problem, you can try to solve it by disintalling the Killer Network Manager and manually re-installing the driver of the WiFi and LAN.

Windows 8 Laptop wont boot anymore, after I un-installed avast anti-virus

It may have something to do with the fact that I un-installed the avast anti-virus, and then restarted the laptop. Then the problem started.

windows 8 wont boot, it will only go to "automatic repair" but that doesnt help either, Ive tried many of the options and none worked. I cant lose my files!!

dell inspiron 5520 15r fan stopped working

as the title says the fan completely stopped working suddenly andi tried to fix it by downloading apps like speed fan ... suddenly as i was about to close the program the fan started working as usual so i stopped worrying about it now it has stopped working again i have no idea why .. the temperature of the processor is around 80 degrees so the fan should start cooling it down but it isn't . i deleted the software the speed fan and still with no progress so i think something is wrong with the software of fan cooling itself is wrong need help with this please

M5010 7 Beeps AGAIN!!!

I bought a Dell M5010 in 2010.  After about two years the motherboard had to be replaced because of the deadly 7 beeps, this was in April 2013.  Now about two years later the 7 deadly beeps has happened again with no warning.  The laptop was running fine, no problems.  I like this laptop, but this is ridiculous.  As much as I have read online about this issue of 7 beeps I would have hoped that Dell would have done some kind of recall and fix.  The motherboard that is fried now is the one that Dell replaced themselves.  They are 0 for 2 on good motherboards on this laptop.  Makes me think about not getting a Dell again.

Random Blue Screen of Death, happens whenever it feels like it. Also, have issues with Windows Update and can't browse the internet or install anything that needs the internet even though I'm connected. I did a factory reset and am still having the same issues.

FULL FACTORY RESET HAS BEEN COMPLETED & still get this error, it did quite a few Windows Updates however it won't do anymore of them, they all fail.

Sent Computer To Dell After 2000-142 Error Code...

Greetings Dell community. 

First off, I apologize for this bloated novella of a post.

A few weeks ago, after turning on my 2 year old (out of warranty) Inspiron 7737 17" Laptop, it wouldn't get past the Windows login after the black Dell logo start-up screen. I would enter my password, and it would just spin or freeze-up. I eventually ran the pre-boot assessment deal, and it gave me the dreaded 2000-142 error code: "Hard Drive 0 Fail Short Self Test".

I called Dell, and after being transferred to the wrong department at least 5 times and hung-up on several other times, I eventually spoke with several rather helpful gentlemen and was told that my hard drive had failed, and that I could send the computer in to have the hard drive replaced and Windows reinstalled for a certain price.  I said okay and pre-paid the cost of the agreed upon repair, and sent the computer off to be fixed.

I was advised by one of the people that I spoke to, that I should remove the Hard Drive prior to sending the computer in if I was concerned about privacy and/or wanted it back. Another person said that they would send the old hard drive back. The shipping instructions stated that I should remove the hard drive because it would not be returned. So, I removed the hard drive prior to shipping it off, figuring I could recover things off of it later and avoid any privacy issues, etc. This was last week.

Today (May 21), Dell called and informed me that the techs have determined that a connection on the motherboard is compromised and that they need to replace the whole motherboard. It will add a fair amount to the repair cost. I asked if that means that my hard drive could possibly be okay, and that the issue with the motherboard/hard drive connection was causing the problem/error code. I never really got a definitive answer; it was very difficult to understand the gentleman because the background noise in the call center was quite loud and international nature of the call was probably not helping in terms of audio quality.

Basically they implied that I need to replace both, but that if I had given them the HD, it may have been possible to check. He said something to the effect that I could just pay the extra cost for the motherboard repair then, after the computer arrives, remove the new hard drive and install the old hard drive in order to test it. I also inquired if I could just have them repair the motherboard, send me the computer back. That way I could reinstall my HD and see if it works. If not, I could send it out for repair again. They said that was possible, but would take longer. I should have asked if I could send the old hard drive to the repair facility where the computer currently is, but of course I forgot. It is so difficult to contact them usually, but he will call back monday. He did give me an extension to leave a message sooner if need be.

Anyways, I was hoping somebody here might have some insight as to whether or not my hard drive may be okay, and that the issue all along was this HD/motherboard connection they found. I don't want to pay for both a hard drive replacement and a new motherboard if it is not necessary. I suppose there is no way of really knowing if the HD is the issue unless it could be put back into the machine though. I read online that it is pretty rare for two things to fail simultaneously (e.g., hard drive and a motherboard/HD connection), but it is possible I guess. What do you folks think of all this? Would you just have the board replaced and hope that that resolves the issue when you reinstall your hard drive? Would you just do the whole repair for both?

Any insight would be much appreciated. Again, sorry for the excessive verbiage.

My son broke his laptop by dropping iton the floor. The palmrest portion at the hinge was broken and the cables that connect from the LCD display to the WLAN card was broken.

I replaced the palmrest watching a youtube tutorial and also purchased a new WLAN card. The cables unfortunately could not be replaced. My understanding is that the touch screen will not work but the laptop should still work.

After I put everything back, the laptop kept giving me an error message that no boot was found. I rechecked my hardware connections. it looked intact. I ran a diagnostics by pressing F12. All were OK except the HDD...it kept saying it could not find the Hard Drive.

I am not sure what to do? I have already spent money on the palmrest, WLAN card, cables that don't fit. If any one has any other solutions for me, please help.

I contacted Dell service centre here in Bangalore, but they replied like this model parts are not available in India sine its US model. inspiron 7347 windows install after SSD swap

Greetings humans!

I got an inspiron 7347 and a crucial mx100 256gb SSD

when i install the drive it shows up in BIOS

but when i boot to install windows (funny how they gave me a dvd... on a laptop with no drive)

i either get no drive found, or a disk read error occurred. 

i created a USB windows 8.1 install disk and added the intel controller drivers

(from here www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=3NGJK)

i tested the USB install with another system and i can install windows fine with it.

This drive is fine as well (i tried installing windows on another system on this disk, which installed fine)

am i missing a step somewhere with this laptop?

The laptop have a serious defect in its industry. Its purchase invoice number: 151 069, and the number of the maintenance receipt of the product: 030 789 and you have the following details

The purchase date of the laptop is 09.03.2015. I started with downloading a genuine Microsoft windows, and the Setup for drivers, but the laptop didn’t work properly. And then I exchanged the windows again for another genuine copy but it didn’t work properly either (once I start up the laptop and after less than 5 minutes a complete hang occurs and it completely stops I can’t do anything or even shut down the laptop so every time I had to force it to shut down using the power button or removing the battery).

I was only been able to work properly on it two times; the time when I install the windows, for two months I have been trying to solve the problem out by installing more than one window because I thought it was a software problem.

I handed the laptop over to the technical support more than once, every time I am promised that it is going to work properly but actually till then they couldn’t reach the actual problem and the existing defect yet, and now telling me that it have a problem may be in the mother board and may be in the hard disk. I was promised more than once in 10 days that I would be able to exchange my laptop or have a refund for the laptop, but they do nothing. All what they are saying “we are going to do our best and inform you soon”!!

All I can confirm is that the laptop has a serious problem and a major manufacturing defect which I cannot accept to receive it after being repaired when I didn’t use it in the first place.

Given that my work practical circumstances and my studies, and in order to preserve Dell’s name in Egypt and maintaining our confidence and trust in Dell, please I am requesting you to check out to stress and push your Dell agent in Egypt to immediately hand me over an alternative laptop or refund of the full laptop value  . As I am in a deep need for a laptop.
