New XPS 13 (9333) Constant Noise

Hello All,

I am pleased to share excellent news on this subject.

I bought my XPS 13 (9333) in November 2014 and have been in constant communication with Dell. Today I have received a new XPS 13 and the noise issue is gone!

The problem on on the 9333 variant of XPS13 was related to interference of the cable supplying the right speaker.

Dell have now replaced the 9333 variant with 9343 version. It's an entirely different beast and I have only just received BUT the noise issue is definitely no more.

Other improvements;

- 200g lighter

- slightly smaller

- much higher resolution (now 3200 x 1800) + much brighter

FYI: I am a Linux user and this device is shipped with Ubuntu again.

Am very happy; will now test the full product and report back if I find any issues.

My advice? Get yourself an upgrade to this new model ASAP :-)

M3800, issues

4 months ago, I paid $5000 for a brand new Dell 3800 laptop and 3 weeks ago it failed. Sure, these things do occasionally happen and I was only slightly perturbed when I called Dell support, and I was almost relieved when I was told that, as per my “next business day” service option, a technician would promptly arrive and replace the motherboard. 3 business days later, the first technician arrived and proceeded to try and remove the back cover. However, he was so inept that he completely stripped two of the screws – not just one, but two! “Not to worry”, he assured me. He would simply break the back cover to gain access. But, he would have to wait until Dell could send a replacement cover. 6 business days - he returned to wrench the back cover free from the screws he destroyed and finally replaced the motherboard. However, this “new” motherboard didn’t work properly. The laptop started, but when he tried to turn it off, the keyboard stayed illuminated, the screen froze and there was no way of restarting. Then this supposed Dell technician actually asked me “Does this model normally do that?!?” Trying not to choke on my complete bewilderment, I said “No”. So, while I waited for yet another “new” motherboard, I decided to call Dell to lodge a complaint. I was told to put this in writing and send it to customer service, which I did, and I promptly received an automated reply stating that I would receive a response within 8 business hours… But, I never heard anything. 9 business days - a second technician arrived to install yet another motherboard, which, thankfully, he managed to do without breaking anything else. However, Dell had sent the wrong screws to replace the ones stripped by the first technician. So, I sent another mail to customer service and, once again, got the automated “We will respond within 8 business hours”. 12 business days – I finally heard from customer service. But, not to say sorry for the terrible service I’d been receiving and not to say that my replacement screws were on the way, but just to say that my service job would be closed within 24 hours. I replied rather promptly to ask what had become of my missing screws? To my surprise, this person had absolutely no knowledge of my screwed screws and asked me to supply photographic proof, which I duly did. 20 business days – and still no reply…..Paying $5000 for a laptop that fails after just 4 months is bad enough, but to get this kind of terrible service is simply insulting.

XPS 13 9343 touchpad firmware

I have one of the new XPS 13 laptops that's plagued with poor touchpad performance.  It looks like a new firmware was released to address this problem but it's only supported for installation on Windows 8.1.  I have already removed 8.1 and clean-installed Windows 7 and when I attempt flashing it crashes.  What are my options for installing this update?  Only thing I can think of is temporarily installing 8.1 just to install the update then switching back to Win7 as the firmware should be independent of the OS, but that would be a huge pain.

Here's a thread (one of many) that outlines the poor performance and provides a link to the update: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19616659

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Todd

Can't start up or shut down with no prior warning

Hi,

I was doing some basic cleaning on my Dell laptop, did open up the front part just like how we normally change our memory ram. Did some light vacuuming, disconnected the key board connecter but after that did put it back and checked that the connector was securely attached back. However, when I tried to start up, it just couldn't boot up or if it could it will just shut down suddenly with no warning. The power seems to cut off but my power adapter cord is still power on. I have to disconnect and connect the power adapter before I can start my laptop again. This happen a few times and I even went to safe mode to start up and PC repair by Microsoft and even activate restore point. It work well but short live. The problem seem to come back again, what happen or what have I done to cause this problem. I need advice, can someone help me out  on this?  Thank you in advance cheers!

The battery charge never reaches 100 percent.

Hi, I own a Dell Inspiron 1464 (with Windows 7 Ultimate) for the past 5 years. Previously I've changed the battery thrice and recently I changed the battery 3 months ago. It has been working well but the problem started last week. The Battery charge never reaches 100% even after charging for long hours. Initially, 86% was the maximum possible charge, then it got reduced to 41%, 35%, 17% and not it is 2% only.

So the laptop is now running fully on AC power. Whenever I switch OFF the AC power, the laptop gets shutdown automatically. Is the laptop hardware faulty or the battery?

Thank you.

PS: My battery is relatively new, brought 3 months ago.

Two Finger Scroll Not Working on my Inspiron 3543

It's been just a month since I bought my new lappy. Usually when I start it up, the two finger scroll works just fine in the Start menu of Windows 8.1.

But after about 10 minutes or so, when I press Start for something, and try scrolling with the two fingers... BAMM !!!!   It's futile. Nothing happens whatsoever.

Please help. All responses appreciated.

Windows Vista issue

Hi. I hope someone can help me with this odd situation. My friend has a Dell Studio 1735 laptop that he wants formatted to factory condition. Keep in mind his CDROM drive does not work so I am trying to use the recovery partition to do this. On start up I hit F8 and get to "Repair Your Computer." I then pick the correct language, pick the Admin account, select the Dell factory restore option, it barely starts to format it and then VERY QUICKLY just reboots the computer. I never saw anything like it. What the heck is going on? Why would it just reboot like this and not follow through with the format? I can't get around it and to even get to that point I have to work like mad or it reboots before I even get to the format option. Help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Inspiron 17R N7110 internet issues

Hey all,

I've recently restored my laptop back to factory setting and ever since doing so I have not been able to use my internet. I have selected my home wifi and entered my password and it says connected but when I open up internet explorer the page just keeps loading and loading - never makes it to even the homepage. If I plug into the Ethernet cord connected to the modem I can get my webpages up, but it's a little inconvenient to keep plugging in.

Also, I should mention that all of my other devices (iPhone/kindle/roommates laptops) can all connect to wifi no problem. What do you suggest I do to get mine to connect?!?!

Customer Service Nightmare

Hi All,

I am writing this as I don't know what to do to resolve my issue with Dell.

In November I ordered a 17.3" Precision M6800 mobile workstation. It was delivered December 7th (irony?)

In February the screen started going dark for a few seconds with a message that said the graphics card had recovered from a problem.

I called dell and they had me disable switchable graphics in BIOS. I then had no graphics at all, just a dark screen rendering the workstation useless.

They set up an on site service to install a new graphics card.

That technician physically broke the keyboard bezel, the internal battery connector, the cover latch, power button and stripped out several screws when trying to re-assemble the thing. When he left I had a workstation in pieces that would only power up by removing the battery and connecting the power brick ( At least I could back up my data ). He also left a rather large oil stain on my driveway which was resurfaced last fall.

A second tech came over to fix the problems caused by the first one but was unable to repair the cover latch and when he was done the machine would no longer boot up.

Dell sent a box to ship the unit to their repair depot where I was assured that those techs were more trained and had access to whatever they needed to repair the machine.

Two weeks later I received my machine back with a love note saying that "after extensive testing" no problem could be found and the machine was being returned with no work performed.

Still a broken cover latch and would not boot up. I was able to get it to boot up by resetting windows but of course this meant setting the machine up from scratch all over again which takes considerable time given the volume of programs and data files that needed to be loaded to it.

Dell "escalated" the issue and an offer was made to replace the system entirely and all I would have to do is move the hard drive from the old machine to the new one. I was skeptical about what I was being told as it can't be that simple to swap a hard drive. I gathered through this that the reason for the machine not booting after the repair was because the mother board had been replaced and somehow windows doesn't like that.

I countered their offer by saying they could send a new machine but since the video card was the cause of the issue I would prefer it to be a different brand and model from the original.

This request was approved and I waited for the new machine.

When the new machine arrived it was evident that they just picked something off the shelf and shoved it out the door. It had a different hard drive, different memory, a DVD drive instead of a Blu-Ray, no fingerprint reader as originally ordered and no agreed upon video card replacement.

After a couple of emails I received another machine that was also incorrect. Different hard drive, no fingerprint reader or Blu-Ray drive and a camera and microphone I did not want or order.

Now I'm being told via email that the closest they can come to a replacement for my system is a 15" Latitude 6500 with no fingerprint reader and no Blu-Ray.

Really?

I can still order a Precision on their site with everything I originally ordered, so why am I being told they can't replace the one that they broke and cannot repair.

It is MAY and this started in FEBRUARY.

Does anyone have a method for contacting the customer service corporate executives?

I'm getting nowhere with Yvonne_506261

Thanks to all who listened.
