RESTORE TO DEFAULT FACTORY SETTINGS

$

When I hit the F8 Key I get the advanced boot up menu but it doesn't have the option to repair or do the factory reset, just options to boot in various safe modes, diagnostic or debugging modes.

I still have the full D partition with the full image, but I can't get to the menu that will let me use it. I do not have the disk that came with the laptop.

Thanks

Precision M2800 CPU gets stuck at certain frequency when laptop starts charging.

At work I got a new Precision M2800 laptop that I use in a docking station because I need 3 screens.

My battery, I guess to optimize its life or such, usually goes down to 95% and then starts charging back up.

When the charging starts, if I look into AMD Ctalyst->Power-> PowerPlay  I see that the state of the laptop switches between Battery<->Plugged In   every second, and when this happens my CPU gets stuck at a certain speed usually 110Mhz or 500Mhz rendering the machine useless.

I have managed to keep the laptop usable by disabling Intel SpeedStep in Bios., but now it stays at 3.55GHz all the time, making it a little to warm for my taste.

Did anyone run into this issue before, and how can I go about getting rid of it?  Is this a docking station issue, a laptop issue or a software issue?

Thank you and please let me know if I can provide more details.

Old XPS M1210 hardware upgrade

Hi, I am still using XPS M1210 till today, bought it in 2006 and already in my 9th year (2015). I have upgraded my ram from 1GB to 3 GB 2 years ago. Recently, I have upgraded my 80 GB HDD to 256 GB SSD. I am very glad that I did that as the performance has significantly improved. Well, I need some sound advice whether I should upgrade other hardware.

I do understand  that with the amount of money I spent on upgrading these hardware, I could easily buy a new up to date version Dell laptop. But is due to personal reason that I am not prepare to buy a new one. Moreover, the performance of my laptop is still doing great and also of my recent upgrade of my 256 GB SSD.

I want to seek advice that is there anything else I should upgrade? Like CPU, network adapter, WLAN card or graphic card etc. The only two things I upgraded was 3 GB ram and 256 GB SSD. Looking forward to hear your precious advice. A million thanks!

PS: I am not a heavy user mainly surfing the net, emailing, watching youtube, play some games and light work.

I want to upgrade the RAM on my Inspiron 1564 which strangely was supplied direct from Dell with 3Gb set as 1x 1GB and 1x 2Gb. I want to make sure I buy the correct sticks and I've seen in an earlier post I need 1066 MHz DDR3 but can you confirm the exact description and the number of pins ?

A link to the part on your site would be good.

Thanks

Hello there,

I had to restore my brand new Dell XPS Desktop but now cannot find the Hibernation Button which was existing and functioning before the reset.

I have installed all drivers and looked up the power options but still no joy.

Any help would be appreciated on how to fix this.

Fan runs (nearly) fullspeed ALWAYS - XPS l502x

Hey!

After trying everything i end up really desperate and now count on your help.

Following is my Problem:

I changed my HDD for an SSD two days ago after having my XPS L502x for nearly three years now.

Everything works fine with the SSD, it runs super fast, i installed Windows 8.1 (before that i had 7). So i didn´t clone my old one, just started over with the SSD.

Now my fan (blowing out on the left side) runs always without any breaks at constantly about 90% power. It begins just the moment i start the laptop, so already before the dell-logo and without even booting Windows.

Here is what i already tried without any change of fan activity:

- installing all kinds of drivers, from Dell, for my Nvidia, every single one i found for the parts of my laptop (also removing and installing graphic drivers)

- booting Ubuntu from a DVD

- updating to the newest BIOS, downgrading to an older one, trying a few settings in the BIOS

- using different diagnostic tools from Dell (as well speed fan), all in the end telling me they can´t access the fan

- dis- and enable TRIM

- changing to my old Seagate HDD (to check whether i might have damaged some temperature sensor from the fan when i disassembled the laptop partly to reach the HDD), and here comes something interesting: the first time i changed back to the old HDD the fan worked just well again, totally normal with spikes when getting hot, but most of the time silent. Then i changed the original HDD (suspecting it might have some kind of temperature sensor or other thing to communicate with the fan) for another HDD from HGST, which made the fan go crazy again. Changing back to the SSD it didn´t work as well, but then i tried the original again to look for software and suddenly it didn´t even work with that one anymore...

So it could be, that i damaged somehow something of the fan when changing the hard disk, but i can´t really believe that, having in mind that building in the original hard disk again for the first time made the fan work normally. I´m believing it has to do something with the software, though i have no more ideas what it could be.

My System:

The old HDD is a Seagate 750GB Momentus.

The unknown device is the ST Microelectronics DE351DL Motion Sensor, Windows 8 just doesn´t support the drivers given.

BIOS right now is the A12 (i did the downgrade with A6)

If you need anymore information just let me know.

I´m happy about any advice, guess and help you guys have for me!

Greetings

Lukas

Dell Latitude E6320 does not start; shift lock light is on

Hello,

I have a Dell latitude E6320 that will be 4 years old in September. When I push the 'on'-button, not much happens. The light of the 'on' button lights up as well as the light of shift lock. They stay on while I hear a soft noise (Probably the fan). After +-10sec the lights go out and the noise goes away. The screen stays black the whole time. I hope somebody can help me!

Thanks for the help!

BIOS diagnostic beep codes

Hey everyone,

I've been trying to do some diagnostics on my ancient Dell Latitude D620. The last time I tried, it ran into a seemingly gigantic error-- although I can't remember what it was. It let out this god-awfully loud frantic beeping, which honestly the neighbors two houses down must've heard. I'm discouraged from doing BIOS diagnostics on my computer until I can avoid that beeping. Is there any way I can at least make it quieter?

New Inspiron 5749 17" random freezing 2 days old

Had laptop 2 days and have had nothing but issues.

Initially had "Driver Power State Failure" error's when trying to get all the windows updates installed.

I have since upgraded the NVidia graphics driver to the latest version and installed BIOS A02 on it and have now got all the windows updates.

But the latest issue is when trying to install other software like visual studio 2013 to laptop freezes and does not respond to an external mouse or the trackpad and I have to force a restart to get it back, which then restarts the installer again.  As I say its been 2 days and its a struggle to do anything for a long period of time on it.

I have just uninstalled the trackpad driver and reinstalled the latest version after reading posts on this site and will see how it goes, but I don't want to have to restore back to factory settings.

Is there a way to get the Windows 8.1 disks so I can do a clean install from scratch?

Thanks

Garry

I have problem with new purchased Inspiron 5547.

When I turn on the laptop, the dell logo appears, the bar starts loading but when it filled, the laptop starts beeping continuosly and really loud. The loading screen stays the same, and it won't stop beeping until I press the power button. After that, if I turn on again, the laptop loads on windows and starts working properly.

This problem happen frequently when I turn on laptop.

Please advise me what I can do by myself to fix this problem.

DELL XPS12 Wont Boot After Windows Updates

$

Hi, I clicked 'Shutdown and update' last week (13/4) and windows began installing 5 updates. As I was going to bed I plugged it into the wall and left it. Before I went to bed it had completed 4 of the 5 but I did not stay to see it finish. The next morning I attempted to start it up and it would only go to a faint black screen after the Dell logo...  I mashed some keys in frustration after trying to reset several times and the mouse cursor appeared... I have been unable to replicate this and therefor tried to repair, restore, diagnose etc. etc.   Nothing has worked to get it running again.

I then tried to reinstall Windows from a Microsoft created USB, during installation it freezes at "getting files ready for installation (0%)". When trying to cancel installation at this point it stays frozen but 'getting files ready for installation' only shows 'get'.

I also tried to format the primary partition before one time of trying to install windows and this froze for a while and then failed.

I am extremely pissed off with Microsoft as the XPS has been flawless for well over a year and this is almost certainly not a coincidence. All hardware is functioning at expected according to the Dell diognosis.

I need this thing going for uni. Any help much appreciated, thanks in advance..

Repairing disk errors?

$

I'm using a Dell Inspiron 15R laptop, operating on the latest update of windows 8. When I turned on my laptop today, it was acting fine. When it asked me for the password, after typing it in, my computer froze. I left it alone for a few minutes. When it didn't unfreeze, I decided to manually shut it off using the power button. The power button didn't succeed in turning it off, so I closed my laptop and left it alone for a while. When I opened it up, there was a black screen. I tried turning it on, to no effect; it almost seemed like it froze with the screen off. After a few more attempts of trying to turn it on/off, shutting the laptop, opening it again and repeating the process, it finally turned on. The normal Dell symbol popped up, as well as some text in the top left corner that says "Checking media_". Then the Dell symbol popped up again, and beneath it, it said "Preparing Automatic Repair" with a loading symbol. After a few seconds, the screen flashed black, then the Dell symbol popped up again, underneath it there being a loading symbol and the words "Diagnosing your PC." The words then changed again to "Repairing disk errors. This might take over an hour to complete." After waiting two hours, I turned it off and on a few more times, hoping that it would fix itself, but to no avail. I really need to fix this as soon as possible, because I need my laptop to do homework. I haven't backed up my computer, so is there still any way to save the stuff I have saved to my computer?

Can I rescue info off the hard drive with the 7 beeps failure.

Ok, get the bad news about the 7 beeps. It's toast. Is there, however, a way to retrieve data from the hard drive. I have professional photography and other files I desperately need to salvage.

Alienware m14x r1 FPS problems

$

Hello

i bought my alienware m14x about 2 years ago and since the beginning ive had nothing but trouble with it

at this point in time any 3d games even from the late 90s have a hard time keeping a solid fps

for exsample

skyrim runs at about 60 fps max and min is 20 fps but its allover the place not one moment of gameplay felt smooth

half life 2 this laptop should run this fine i get about 45 fps on any setting low or high and in this case the minimum fps is 0 yes 0 and the max is somthing obsurdly high like 275fps but it tends to fall near the 45 fps mark usually

and team fortress 2 yet another source game , it seems to stay at 30fps and constally has stuttering

okay well for 6 months now i have serched for a solution for this well rather odd problem

i am well aware of nivida's optimus and how that works i have probally spent a month in total fiddling with the settings

so at the moment my laptop looks like its on life support hdmi cables and cooling pads all over the place and yet it still dosent do a single thing

bad thing is that i dont have the money or time to fix or replace anything inside

PS nothing to my eyes seems to be wrong im using the right power supply it dosent over heat and it just seems fine to me so could this possibly be a software problem

THANKS FOR READING ANY HELP WOULD BE HIGHLY APPRECIATED [:)]

Dell XPS 9333

I have a Dell XPS 9333 purchased in December 2014 on the recommendation of my colleague.  However where his is lightening fast, mine is sluggish in comparison.  I notice that often the fan speed will increase without any "reason" and when I am using Outlook there is often problems displaying the text of an email which only corrects when I minimise and then maximise the window.  I have also had issues whereby it takes minutes to open up a photo saved on the hard drive (just a 500kb file).  Any thoughts on what may be the issue?  My IT department have looked over it and cannot find anything that may be causing the problems.

Thanks for any help you can give!
