Hello,

Today, when I using my laptop as usual, it suddenly freezed and I had to make a hard switch off. After that, when I tried to turn on, the sreen just show a black screen and it will not make it to boot screen.

After searching for a while on the internet, I think there is a problem with thermal paste and thermal pad (too old) and thus cause problem with venting the heat of the card (and of course does not make it to boot screen). So I have to take the card out and viola!, my laptop works normally.

However, until I get new thermal paste and pad to replace the old one, I also need to assume the worst case scenario that my GPU is broken and need a replacement.

Is there anywhere I could buy for a new one? And can I get a different card than my old AMD 7970M?

I am unable to access bluetooth after installing windows 8 on my system. I tried downloading the drivers from http://dell.to/ZpQ0xY but upon extracting the files I am unable to find the file BtwMM.exe in the folder, which was the file to be installed as suggested by dell technicians in a TechCenter Extras discussion I saw on the same issue.

But the issue was not resolved for me. Please help me out. My service tag is 3RW3RR1

Hello,

Recently, I have been having problems with my Dell Laptop Inspiron. Here is what happens.

1. When I try to boot up, I hear the disc running and the mouse appears on the screen but the screen is completely black. It receives power supply as when I plug in the power, the Green LED lights up.

2. When I followed the procedure to trying to reset somethings by taking out the battery, holding the power button on for 10 sec. then placing it back in, the Dell Laptop begins to screech with a loud beeping every few seconds.

3. The error message then responds by saying "CMOS Checksum Bad" as well as the other error about date and time. However, I looked for this problem a little bit online but the error codes don't match to what I was receiving.

I was wondering if anyone could help me with my CMOS error because I want to make sure I don't have a virus as well as I could actually use my computer again.

Hello-

Two questions:

1. I am trying to upgrade RAM from 2*2 to 8*2.  I installed PNY (PNY 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600 CAS 11 Low Voltage (1.35V) Laptop Memory Kit).  When I turned on the system, it would not boot and just beeped at me.  I am going to try Crucial (Crucial 16GB DDR3-1600 (PC3-12800) CL9 Laptop Memory Kit (Two 8GB Memory Modules) as I think the latency of the PNY (11) is the issue.  Not sure.  The system worked fine after I replaced the OEM 2*2.

2. I am also trying to re-image the system from Win 8 to Win 7 enterprise while switching to an SSD (CPU sees SSD).  The initial files load but then it freezes when the windows icon appears.  Is it ok to boot from the optical drive?  I know that I need to re-install drivers in order once the re-install is done.

Any advice appreciated!

Over the last five days, dell support staff have wasted my time by leaving me on hold and transferring my calls back and forth to the same departments.  It appears no one has the common sense to recognize when a problem exists or the incentive to the resolve the issue.  Customer Service (for Dell) amounts "TO NOTHING" more than verbal apologies without any real attempt at resolution. This is the worst company, with the worst customer support ever!!
I feel strongly that upper management should be aware of this lack of effective customer support if Dell is to hold on to its rapidly declining reputation for quality and support.

The last think I will do is to contact Dell's Board of Directors. I am sure that at least the executives would be more interested in what their customers are saying

I recently obtained a Dell Inspiron laptop from a friend and it has a password.  Neither she or I could figure out the BIOS password.  It just tells us "Incorrect Password Entered."

My Dell Inspiron keyboard not working correctly, all the upper row of numbers not typing correctly, for example when I type the number 1 I get the ! exclamation sign and all the numbers do the same, so the laptop was due for a windows refresh and I upgrade from Win7 to Win8.1 and is doing the same, I thought then it may be the physical keyboard so I connected a USB keyboard and to my surprise is doing the same with a external keyboard. I reset the bios to a factory settings and that did not work ether.

Any help will be appreciated.

I bought the DELL Inspiron 5000 15 inch laptop (touch screen) recently.

One of the biggest disappointments for me is the keyboard...They keys are tiny as hell, how does DELL expect me to type accurately on those small keys?

It is about time they ditched the stupid "Numeric Keypad" on the right side of the keyboard, which no one really ever uses, and instead go for a full size keyboard like on the XPS laptops !

It is a request I put forth to DELL.... I wish I could get an XPS as a replacement, but why has the XPS line gotten so darn expensive? As expensive as the Macbook or even higher !

Inspiron M5040 running Win 7 Home Premium and I downloaded Windows 10 tech preview. My computer is now very unstable and my printer driver doesnt work so I tried to "roll back" my OS back to Win 7 but this doesnt work either. I have a new Win 7 installation disc but I need to format the entire HDD to get everything off of it and start over. Does ayone know how to FDISK this computer?

I have an XPS13 Signature edition running Windows 8.1.  A significant setting/feature that seems to be missing is a way to issue a "middle click" using the trackpad.  One impacted application is VNC. I use left-button to copy and middle-button to paste.  Even after setting the VNC client to "emulate 3-button mouse" (typically via clicking both left and right button at the same time), I do not get the same effect of a middle button.

Does anyone have any suggestions?  Even old, tired Latitude 8XXX series touchpad + buttons allowed me to do this.

I was getting a warning message that my hard drive was about to fail.

I've owned my Inspiron 1545 for about 4 years, and it is working great otherwise.

I created a backup of my hard drive on an external, USB connected hard drive.
I ordered a replacement hard drive, then replaced it and restored from my backup.

Now Windows does not think it is genuine and I can no longer run Windows updates.

Can someone help me with the process to fix this?

It seems like I should be able to replace my hard drive if it is about to fail.

I have a inspiron 15 # 7548 and it does not have a Ethernet port . Can I connect this to my modem hard wired somehow ? I was having modem problems and the cable co. keeps telling me to hook my laptop hard wired to check the problem . They are driving me crazy because I don't have a ethernety port . Any help ? I'm considering getting an ssd drive for my msata slot so I've been reading up a bit on things(will probably end up making a new post with questins aobut that later)

Anyway, right now I have a single hard drive installed in my laptop, but in my bios settings sata operation is set to raid. I enver touhed my bios other then update and adding a password to it. So this either got changed during a bios update(cant imagine that) or it is set as factory default. 

I got a few questions on that,

first, is it safe to change it to AHCI as that seems to make more sense to me with 1 hdd installed, or 1 hdd and 1 ssd when/if I install that or do I need to change settings in windows first?

second, why is it set to raid as factory default when there is only room for 1 hdd and 1 ssd or 2 ssd?

Hello,

So I recently got a Inspiron 15 (7537, Mid 2013) <Terms of use violation, personal information> I'm currently on windows 8.1, and have updated everything there is. Only problem is when I try installing the Nvidia drivers it says that its not recognized. I've looked in the device managed, and there's a yellow triangle over PCI. Anyone know what I can do to fix this?

Hello All,

I just got a Dell XPS 15 9530, and the screen keeps on physically bouncing (rocking back and forth) any time I type (Can see the screen moving via the reflection). Is this due to the highly reflective nature of the screen along with the combination that it is touch, that causes me to feel this. Does anyone have any feedback regarding this than or has anyone experienced this. Thank you for your time.
