Video and mouse lag with M3800 in Windows 7

Hello,

I deployed three M3800s with Windows 7 64-bit with D3100 USB 3.0 docks. They have two Dell monitors connected to the docks with display port and HDMI. There is a ton of lag and poor refresh rate on the monitors and on the laptop. When the dock is disconnected, the refresh rate and lag issues go away. When I connect the laptop back to the dock, the issues return. Even when we connect the monitors directly to the laptop through mini displayport, there is a ton of lag.

We have two near identical setups but with Windows 8.1 instead of Windows 7. The laptop runs Windows 8.1 with no issues.

I have updated these computers to the latest video drivers but still have continued issues. Is there any guidance for this?

Thanks,
Nathan

Latitude E6400and display only works on battery, turns off when plugged in? Motherboard issue?

I've owned several E6400s over the years for my business and my personal use.  I've moved on to a Latitude 6430u, but I bought my mom an off-lease/refurb E6400 about 15 months ago.  Recently, when it is switched from battery to AC power, the display turns off.  The hard drive, keyboard backlight and indicator lights remain lit, so the display is the only component that turns off when the power adapter is connected.  If the power cord is removed, the system reverts to battery power and the display comes back to life!?

I have checked every wire and connection between the display and system board and found no problems.  i tried an alternate power adapter and the behavior was the same.  At this point, I am inclined to believe that the problem lies in the system board itself.

Is there anything I'm missing that could be causing this?  If not, I hope to find a used/refurbished motherboard that will make repairing it worth the cost and trouble.  I really like the laptop (and so does she) but I can't spend more than $80-$100 to repair it.

XPS 17 Hardware

I own an XPS 17 that's about 4 years old. It was "top of the line" with Intel i7, 16g ram, jbl audio, tv tuner, etc etc. Last month my daughter dropped. We took it to the Geek Squad and they shipped it off and finally e-mailed me this morning and said they can't get the parts so they're returning it.

Come on, it's not that old is it? I looked at the Dell Support site and couldn't find a link to "order a repair". Could anyone point me in the right direction?

Also, if anyone knows the beep code for the XPS... ours is beeping 7 times.

Best wishes,

Inspiron 15r 5537 takes 2 tries to power-on

I have an Inspiron 15r-5537 takes 2 power button presses to get it to boot. When pressing the first time the power light comes on, the fan spins up and I can hear the optical drive power on. Then everything shuts off. A second press of the power button starts a normal boot.

This is also causing issues getting the PC to wake after sleep. The unit appears to be restarting then powers off. Pressing the power button then initiates a reboot. I've checked the power settings and they are all set to sleep when closing the lid, etc.

The laptop is running Win 8.1. I've updated the drivers and the bios to A08. I've tried installing a clean OS and even tried moving it back to Win 7, but the same issue keeps happening.

I have read other threads mentioning an sleep/wake issue that is caused by graphics drivers, but they all reference the AMD graphics card and this laptop only has the Intel HD 4400 graphics. Because this issue also happens on cold boot I tend to think this is hardware-related.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Several E5430's fails to POST, Power LED lights and HDD LED lights once then nothing but frustration...

I have three E5430's that when the power button is pressed will not post every time. It is random. I get the power light and one blink of the HDD LED only. Holding the power button down until it clicks off and pressing it again on the sixth or 19th time it will finally light off and post and head into boot. When it does POST the diagnostic finds no problems so I am wondering if this is a power button problem or something not tied to the MB. Sometimes, not always, removing the power adapter and battery then holding the power button for a long 20 count and putting the battery back in and plugging in the adapter will get it to post. The same thing occurs with different batteries and power adapters. I have swapped memory, reseated HDD, Wi-Fi card and Optical Drive. BIOS is A11 but the reboot hang is not allowing the BIOS upgrade to A15.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We have an image server at work that deploys windows 7 under our licensing agreement. If i get a xps 13 in with 8 on it, boot to the network, use our image, load any additional drivers via a usb stick (get drivers from different machine, copy to stick)...... will that work?

Alienware M14x no longer burning DVDs

I've been over at the Nero forums for almost a week now trying to diagnose why my 1-year-old Alienware M14x laptop is having trouble burning DVDs all of a sudden.  We seem to be narrowing it down to the optical drive.  Is there a firmware update for the ANW14R1?  Does anyone else know of any problems with this Dvd drive?  I can provide the device manager name for the drive later today when I get home.  I have looked at the updates for my laptop at Dell Support and don't see any new drivers listed for the optical drive.

Spilled milk on touchpad?

Hi,

I spilled milk on my touchpad and the computer immediately shut off. It wasn't a particularly large amount and I wiped away what I could- it wasn't on the keyboard though I suppose it might've spread. Googled what to do on the PC, and promptly unplugged it from the wall. It is currently sitting upside down with the battery removed. I know too little about computer parts to be able to take it apart, but I'm checking the manual just in case. I have an Inspiron 15 3521. I've always been careful about liquids near my laptop, but the one time I'm not...ugh. Any chance of survival/any tips for fixing this?

Thanks.

Inspiron 17 5749 Touchpad control panel and Quickset will not open

I just bought a Inspiron 17 5749. I wanted to adjust the touchpad properties but the Touchpad control panel will not open (located in a mouse control panel tab).  If I try to manually open the control panel (DellTpad.exe) it will open but as soon as I make a selection it closes the window.  Another interesting thing is that the Dell Quickset icon is in the task manager but it is greyed out and will not respond.  I have tried doing several factory recoveries and also have tried downloading the latest software from Dell to update and also have done dell diagnostics with no issues found. Nothing seems to work.  Any suggestions?

The reason why I will never recommend a Dell product

My experience with dell has been disastrous at best. I purchased an Inspiron 13 - 7000 series Tablet/Laptop. Roughly a month after the purchase, my touch screen began to have a mind of its own. What I mean by this is the screen would begin to move sporadically by itself  for about 10-15 minutes per occurrence. The occurrences became more frequent as time went on. I contacted Dell and a technical support team who attempted to remotely fix the issue; they couldn't fix the problem. I was informed to give it some time and contact the Dell technical support for more technical support if the problem continued to occur. I contacted Dell again and the technical team instructed me to send the laptop to there center. I asked the support team what they were going to do because I used the Laptop for work and I was informed that they would only replace the screen. I sent my computer to Dell and when it had arrived, they had wiped out my entire computer and operating system and did not replace the screen. I no longer had any files and the computer screen was still having the same issue. I then contacted Dell and they stated they would send a contractor to fix the issue. I asked about all my files and they stated that they could not do anything about the lost files. I then asked them about the Microsoft Office I had purchased that was no longer on my computer and they informed I only had a trial version of Office, which I did not; I remember paying the 200 something dollars for the full program. I did not want to argue because I realized the company does not really care about customer service or there customers. When the contractor arrived to fix the computer he noticed the screen was not even placed in correctly. In addition he opened up the computer and stated that there were essential screws missing, basically the hard drive was loose and had one screw holding it to the frame. I can honestly say I will never buy a Dell again.

Laptop screen flickering (probably related to nvidia)

My laptop is flickering a black screen, or holds a black screen in place when high contrast videos and images are visible to large parts of the screen (or at least that's what I've gathered). Although I've found ways of working around this temporarily, it's not very sustainable. For the record, I've tried methods mentioned in many forums but haven't had much success.  I would love for some advice please. Thank you so much in advance!

Inspiron 7548 fan problem

My 15 inch i5 7548 is just 7 weeks old. Up until yesterday I had only heard the fan run briefly a couple times and I was very pleased that this laptop was very cool and quiet like using a tablet. Yesterday I changed out the HDD for an SSD and ever since the fan runs nearly non-stop on low and frequently steps up to high.

I am a 25+ year IT Professional and have worked on laptops for years.  The replacement was easy and went smoothly and I didn't have any problems with the SSD replacement and didn't touch anything other than the hard drive screws.  I haven't had any problems with errors or crashes.

Why is the fan running all the time since replacing the HD with an SSD?  It should have gone the other direction and run even quieter and cooler than it was with the HD!  Suggestions?

I have an Inspiron 1420 I bought used as a back up/travel laptop and the display is not very bright all the time (plugged in and on battery). I have the brightness turned up all the way and that hasn't helped. My wife has the same computer she's had since new and the display is the same as mine. What am I missing,

I thought at first that there was a problem until I looked at my wife's computer, so is this normal for this model? Are we both not doing something right? HELP, my old eyes have trouble seeing stuff on the screen in bright light!

hello,

Does anyone know how I can find out how much RAM my D630 can handle?

It currently has 4GB installed and I've seen people say it can run 6GB or even 8GB but I don't want to upgrade it to this if it isn't going to see this and it's a waste of time and money?

My BIOS version is A17

CPU:  Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU  T9300 @ 2.50Ghz, 2501 Mhz  2 Core(s)

Thank you in advance for any help

The hard drive on my Inspiron 5030 has failed completely and I have purchased a replacement. My problem now is how to re-install the operating system to the new drive. The laptop did not come with any CD/DVDs and is out of warranty. There does not seem to be any help for this on the manufacturer's site - if there is I have been unable to find it.
