Spilled liquid soap on my touchpad on an Ultrabook XPS :/

Hi everybody,

I have an Ultrabook, Dell XPS Core i5.

Sadly the touchpad has suffered a lot. In addition I’ve recently spilled some liquid soap into it and now when I try to slide my fingers it’s kind of gluey, it seems to me as if it had lost all of its “sliding capacity”. Electronically speaking it works perfect, it’s just annoying when I try to slide my fingers.

Do you know if I can put a product to improve this?

Thanks !!!

DELL XPS "13 tilde (~) key issue

The "tilde" key of my newly bought DELL XPS "13 laptop doesn't work as expected.

When I press the key with the "shift" key  ("shift" + "tilde") it doesn't show the '~' at first attempt. But when I press it again I will get 2 tilde symbols '~~'.

This is same even I press the key without the 'shift' key. With the first attempt nothing printed but when I press the key again I will get ' `` ' symbols.

This is really annoying when its come to entering passwords with 'tilde' symbol.

Please do let me know what sort of actions that I need to take to rectify this defect/issue as this is really disturbing my day to day work.

Thanks in advance for your prompt reply in this regard.

Inspiron M5030 won't boot :(

I hope that someone can help me here. Over two weeks ago my laptop was working fine. I shut it down one day, and later in the evening I saw the front lights on so it must have not shut down. I moved the mouse and the screen did not come back. So I pressed the power button and shut it off. After that when I turned it on it gave me a disk error and asks to ctrl alt delete. When I do the same thing. It seems when I leave it off and let the power drain and try i the disk error goes away but it won't boot, just to the black screen. The service tag is: C4L9HP1 I can get in the bios but I don't know what to do. I googled and read to boot in the last previous known to boot mode, but I can never get f8 to work. Only f2 and f12 and those don't seem to give me that or safe mode options.

I was using it for my work and went out and bought the lowest price laptop at bestbuy. Windows 8 is nice but does not seem as solid as the dell.

I would like to take it back but only have two days left to decide.

My dell is windows 7 and a few years old but I don't think it should be done yet.

I hope that someone here can help me fix it please.

Thank you for listening,

Ian

Downloadable Dell Latitude 10 ST2 Recovery Image Needed

I have a Latitude 10 ST2 10.1" Windows 8 Pro tablet. I have Windows 10 Build 9926 on it, and need to flash it back to Windows 8.x.  The recovery partition on it is Windows 10 Build 9879 (that build changed the recovery partition).

Is there a downloadable version of Windows 8.1 Recovery for the ST2 that I can use to make a bootable USB drive?  If so where can I get it?  The generic Windows 8.1 Recovery disk for Surface Pro won't boot on this device.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please help with D630C memory

Hey, hope someone can help me out with this head scratcher! So I purchased a clean d630 used and upgraded the processor as well as upgrade the mobo to the nVidia as well as two 4 GB memory sticks. I did the fixes to help with the overheating. I also purchased an extra board... just incase. The issue is, after the upgrade, everything worked fine. I run linux mint, so I decided to do a clean install. After re-intsalling it, it would not load the OS.

I removed one of the sticks so I was back at 4gb and it would load. I tried every possible linux distro and couldn't get any of them to load, obviosuly I'm only using 64 bit os's. My bios is updated to the latest for the D630C because that is the mobo I purchased. sooooooooo after all that, it still has no probs loading windows. I can't figure this one out. Any input is sooooooo appreciated.

how to install driver updates when the Inspiron R7 is stuck on stupid/sleep mode

$

The main purpose of this post:
To get an answer to how can you update your drivers or do any sort of settings fixes when you cannot even get the computer to start up because it's stuck in what seems like sleep mode?

Soon after getting automatically updated to Windows 8.1, my Inspiron R17 5720 started getting stuck in sleep mode.

After researching and going through the online Dell support diagnostics, it detected that I needed a slew of driver updates (about 14), most of which were updates for Window 8.1 compatibility for chipset, video/graphics card, bios. Same process everyone's experienced.

I downloaded all the updates and perhaps I should have clicked the button that has Dell initiate the update process in the recommended order.
The reason I did not do it is because most updates required a reboot after installation.  I had work I needed to do and didn't want to get stuck, unable to reboot after the first restart. I figured i'd work first then do the updates later.

I shut down before I could begin any of the updates and I've been stuck on stupid/sleep mode ever since.

Symptoms
problem started wen I tried to shut down and the computer would not completely shut down...it got stuck in sleep mode.  So I held down the Power button until it shut off.

Days or a week later, I started to experience trouble booting up because it would get stuck in sleep mode - all lights flash on, then the hard drive light turns off, power and battery light stay on, screen stays black/blank the entire time.  This happened sporadically and I could overcome it by simply powering off a few times and rebooting.

Now, it will not boot up at all. It always reverts to sleep mode.

I've read about creating a boot-up USB flash drive, but my bios settings are not set to read off the USB drive on boot-up. So I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place.

I've read all the solutions and I suspect all I need to do is update my drivers, But, how can I install the driver updates/fixes if I cannot even get out of sleep mode and into Windows OS?

Various keys on my Latitude E6410 have stopped working.

A small section of keys in 1 area of the keyboard have stopped working. Have cleaned the keys, uninstalled the keyboard . This has helped as a few of the keys have started responding again but not all. Has anybody else had this problem? Does anybody have any suggestions I could try? Any help and advice is greatly appreciated thanks.

BSOD DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE on brand new Inspiron 7746

Hi,

yesterday I bought brand new Inspiron 7746. During one evening 3 BSODs occured to me. Nothing installed besides standard application provided by Dell. BSOD occurs during random activities like browsing the web.

Scenario is usually the same: touchscreen and touchpad stops working while keyboard works properly and 30 seconds later BSOD 0x0000009F appears with description DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE. Error points to file pci.sys, I can provide further information if needed.

Please tell if it is any fix for that or am I forced to return Dell laptop to the store and buy other one.

Dell Inspiron 3521 wont start.

Dell Inspiron 3521 18 month old won't start. When i press the start button it does not beep but rather produce a short low pitch noise at a regular intervals.  The sound comes from the speaker. It never reaches any screen signal (logo, icon, bios screen). By luck sometimes it boots and "behaves" absolutely normal. I replaced the memory chips and the problem persists, i checked the performance of the disk in a different computer and it works normal.  What else, mother board, power supply?

SSD's not working on my Dell XPS l502x?

Recently I tried to replace the 750GB HDD in my Dell XPS L502x for a 240GB kingston SSD.

But when installing windows 7 home premium it says windows could not format the SSD drive, normally I tried other SSDs from other brands and other capacities, but all with no success! It seems that it doesn't work right no matter what SSD I plug in.

Also I tried installing other versions of windows 7, both using a CD and a USB bootable drive all with the same problem. In fact the System gets all weird and slow even in the BIOS when the SSD is plugged in the fixed HDD slot.

The weird part is that I bought a second HD Caddy to replace my DVD-rw for a normal HDD and the SSD works 100% normal if I put him in the caddy and plug where the DVD reader was!!! I can format and install windows if the SSD is there, but unfortunately it is impossible to boot the System from there. The SSDs that i tested only showed weird problems whem conected to the mais HDD SATA port that is located nearly under the touch pad. But this works perfectly fine with my current 750GB HDD, i never had any problems with it only when i plug in the SSD's.

Please I need to know if there is anything i can do to solve this issue or i will have to return de SSD i bought!

Thanks,

Victor

Dell 15R 5521 New HDD Not Recognised

System - Dell inspiron 15 R 5521, windows 8, intel 1.8 GHz i5 3337U cpu, HDD - samsung momentus ( ST1000LM024 ) 1 T.B.

My system is around 30 months old and out of warranty. System crashed last week and after diagnosis I found that HDD is crashed ( confirmed by Dell service center )

I purchased another 1TB HDD -- Western Digital Blue ( WD10JPVT/WD10JPVX ) but my laptop is not recognizing the HDD  Whenever I tried to boot the system with recovery disc  it says - Your HDD size is not supported for this purpose Please use a HDD at least _ GB in size

on running diagnosis tool error  is " Hard disk not installed"  Both new and old HDDs are exactly of same size and identical in shape I checked all the pins and they are fine. Strange thing is that laptop is recognizing crashed HDD but not the new one.

On searching several threads on this forum I found that this may be due to old version of BIOS.  System has A07 BIOS but latest version is A012 .

I have some questions

1 Is this a compatibility issue i mean WD10JPVT/WD10JPVX is not compatible with my system ?

2 If it is due to BIOS then how to update the BIOS without Windows ? ( I can't install windows without a HDD )

Dell... what do you want me to do?!

I've ordered about 7 laptops and back in the day even a x51v, Dell Streak, and more from dell. Most of those orders up until my last 2 xps's had issues. But nothing big, usually just had to repeat some stuff such as my address.

So fast forward to now. I got my tax return in and decided to pay off my last notebook which has next to nothing left owing. I place an order online to order a replacement (Alienware 17). Three days later the order status is still on "order processing". No big deal... dealt with this in the past. I call in, first guy tells me that my order # is invalid. I ended up repeating it, plus my customer # and all that to him 6-7 times. He tells me I am remembering the #''s wrong, I inform him this is from the email.

Now I am transferred to another guy. He speaks very fast, has the mic on his lips and is in a very loud environment. He was supposedly in sales. This guy tells me that my order # and Customer# is wrong, but the Purchase ID was valid. He asks for some of my info like name and address, I provide it 2x, and then he decides to tell me he has a different name and address on file. At this point I gave up.

So I used Dell Chat. The representative took a bit to look things up, but then came back to me saying she noticed the order was on hold. She proceeded to tell me that I will now get a call in 24-48 hours.

I can't even cancel the order or anything. No one knows anything and all that happens is my order gets further delayed. I just want to replace the XPS I've been using. This is for work and play. So to get all excited and then be left in limbo is really not the greatest experience.

Dell Latitude E6500

We have a lab full of Dell Latitude E6500 laptops running Windows 7 32-bit. We've been a experiencing a seemingly random issue where the Shift key gets "stuck." What I mean is that the Shift key is physically pressed but the computer is acting as if it is by displaying typed letters as uppercase instead of lowercase. Also, when someone presses a number key, the symbol above the number shows up as being typed: I.E. if someone types a 5 the percent sign appears instead. A reboot usually makes a temporary fix but if anyone knows how to permanently fix this issue, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Laptop tries to boot up over and over without success

Hello.  I have several Inspiron N7110 laptops and all out of warranty.  One of them is having a booting problem.  When the computer is turned on it will go to the Dell Inspiron screen with the progress bar (F12 and F2 lower right), but will go no further and then immediately attempt to reboot again.  It tries to reboot endlessly with the same result.  There are no beeps.  The 3 lights on the upper right of the keyboard will turn on (white) in this sequence quickly 1--1off--2--2off--3--3off--2--2off--1stays on--2stays on--3stays on (now all 3 are on) and then they all quickly dim off to reboot again.  The only noise is a few quick clicks in the CD drive and the fan will work.  F12, F2, and F8 does not work.  I can't get to safe mode or anything else.  I put several discs in the CD drive including XP Professional setup and a rescue disk and nothing was recognized.  Thinking that it might be a static issue, I've unplugged the power, removed the battery and pressed the power key for 30 seconds and then reinserted the battery and tried again, but nothing happened.  There is nothing attached to the computer (printer, speakers, etc).  I hit all of the keys on the keyboard several times thinking something might be stuck.  I thought about removing the hard drive and making it function as an external drive or placing it in another laptop to see if it at least worked, but after watching a Dell video on how to remove the hard drive from the Inspiron N7110, I realized why I'm a financial guy and not an IT guy.  Yup, I wouldn't be a brain surgeon either!  :)

Can anyone please help?

Dell e6320 - No Power

I'm generally pretty good with repairing pc's but I think I've met my match this time.

My daughter's e6320 will not power on at all.  It worked fine until last week and then simply stopped powering on.

Specs:

  • e6320
  • Core i5
  • 8GB RAM
  • Windows 7 Pro - 64bit

  • I removed the battery and tried my sons to see if that was the problem.
  • Removed the battery and tried the power supply.
  • I removed the hard drive and tried to boot into the bios.
  • Tried a docking station with and w/o a battery.
  • There is no sound and no lights.
  • I do notice that when the battery is in, it does seem to get warm on the bottom beneath the space bar on the keyboard.

I'm afraid that if the motherboard is bad, this thing is done based on the cost of a new board.

Any suggestions?

Thank you.
