I've had this Dell xps 15z for about three years and for the last several months have had the (250gb solid state) hard drive almost full. Now the laptop freezes for about 0.25-0.5 of a second every 10 minutes or so. I think since it has been doing this it has also been running a little slower generally, based on the time it takes to run R scripts. I want to fix this. I've created a little more hard drive space (10-15gb) but the problems persist.

My first resort is to reformat the hard drive, but for this I need a windows 7 disk. I want to ask Dell if I can get one from them but there is no way to contact them -- in the technical help site, when I enter my service key, it says my laptop is not registered to this country (using the Australian Dell site, where I bought it). Maybe it's because the warranty has expired, but still, that's no reason for Dell to cut off communication with me.

So I have a few questions:
- is there any way to contact Dell?
- does Dell give or sell Windows 7 disks to customers?
- are my problems likely to be from running the computer with no hard drive space for a while?
- if so, would a reset to factory conditions likely solve it, or would a hard-drive reformat be better?

Hi,

I'm having this problem lately. Sometimes when i trying to shutdown my laptop the screen goes off but the laptop isn't. Its not shutting down.After 1 hr problem still remain. Every time this problem rises i had to shutdown the machine using power button. Sometimes it happen when i used to sleep the laptop and trying to turning it on.  please help.

My Dell Downloads has been replaced and or upgraded to SupportAssist program. I was one of those people struggling to get into My Dell Downloads. getting stuck after clicking - register my system. finally i broke down and went into a chat with a tech/agent person. And she told me the My Dell Downloads had been changed. Thats why it wouldnt work for me. so, i ran the SupportAssist program and there is no 3rd party software to get.

i dont know, but i think this applies to people and their machines that were bought recently, i got my Inspiron 15 (3542, Early 2014) last december 2014. 

dont know why, but this info has not worked its way down the food chain to us people who been trying to get in their. 

So, i dont know anymore about this, but what ive said here.

And again - i dont work for Dell..

Please help me i bought a dell inspiron 3537 ci5-4200u , 8192 DDR  and this was on 15/02/2014 that's why it is still on warranty ( ends in december 2015 ),  my laptop worked fine for a nearly 10 months and  one day it  won't turn on ( the power button is on hence the screen is totally black).  I took it to Dell Partner Direct Distributor in Tunisia ( IGL Distribution )  after sales service and they said that it is a motherboard problem , so they replaced it  and sent it back to me. The laptop  worked fine  when i turned it on, but when i was trying turn it on once more  the same problem appeared again. As a result i sent it back for the second time  to the IGL Distribution and again with the same  motherboard issue, so they replaced it . I took my  laptop hoping that the problem is solved ,  however the same scenario  is still repeating  , so what can i do ??? Is this really  a motherboard issue ?? I'm waiting for your early reply patiently.

Hello friends!

 I'm going to have my second -clean install- and I need some help about drivers.   The first time was before 2 years, successfully, with the great help from natakuc4,

 I'm speaking for xps L702x (NO "3D"). W7x64 sp1 premium.

     1) 1-4-2013 I flush bios with A19. Now I read in your site that A19 is last updated 12-12-2013.    Is that means  is a better one and that I've to upgrade?  Or is maybe just for W.8 compatibility and so   I've nothing to win from upgrading?

     2) My hdd is WDC_WD7500BPKT-75PK4T0.& an external hard drive Seagate.   Do I have to install The serial ATA - Seagate Momentus Firmware Update?   because is written someting about usb so maybe is it just my case, an external usb hdd? or not?

     3) firmware update like "Micron RealSSD C400 128GB/256GB/512GB 2.5" 7MM" do I need it?

 

     4) Do I need the "broadband mobily driver" when most often my internet connection is from a stick  -wireless broadband mobile isp provider- Or it has nothing to do with that?        like  DELL_WIRELESS-5620-EVDO-HSPA_A09_R292028.exe   it says recommended for sprint

     5) "Dell 32 Bit Diagnostics Utility" is it o.k for a 64 bit os after a clean install?

     4) Well first a general question : Is it possible 2 drivers with the same name and version to be somehow  different? because there are many cases I don't really understand

      and special :    1-4-2013 I got the driver "Video_Nvidia_W74_A10_Setup_RXD7P_ZPE.exe" version "8.17.12.8577, A10".      Now you give the same driver, name and version but last updated 19-12-2013 !!         So do I've to upgrade?  The size looks also in Mb the same! (198Mb)     but maybe the differences are some bytes?  also "Renesas USB3.0 Host Controller Driver"  the same situation !   so the "last updated" has any meaning or not?

    Unfortunately the disk with drivers I got when I bought the laptop from the very beginning had a problem  so I have to search for them. Are there in the recovery partition? Can I extract them?    If I knew exactly what the system needs, it'd be easiest to search for the updated versions.     I remember after the first clean install I had some messages from Action Center that I'm loosing functionality from missing special drivers e.g "ST Micro Screen Detection Sensor" or for usb controller and more..    but at the same time in Device manager I'd not yellow marks...

  (The funny with the usb 3.0 host controller is that I'd the right one for xpsL702x but the system wanted and download it for me the R266197.exe which is for desktops 8300/9100 and Vostro!!   After that never it complain again ....about usb 3.0.. but I was with 2 drivers)

      Please answer only if you are sure about any of my questions (excuse my english)                 and               I really really thank you.

I am considering installing the Windows 10 Technical Preview on my new Dell XPS 13 but I am concerned that doing so may damage the factory recovery partition.  I want to preserve that partition in case I ever want to restore the system to its factory settings so my question is, will I be able to use the F8 process after installing the Technical Preview?

Hi, I was on the Desktop Audio forum and DELL-Chris M said I should continue my post here.

I have a Dell AC411 speaker. In my house there are two Dell computers, one running Windows 8 and one running Windows 7 Professional SP1. Both pair with the AC411 but only the Windows 8 computer recognises it as speakers; the other one recognises it as a Bluetooth headset and won't play any audio on it.

DELL-Chris M said to compare the Device Managers for both to see what the Windows 7 computer was missing. Here are the results of that search:

• The W8 computer has a section of Audio Inputs and Outputs, containing realtek High Definition audio listings for Microphone and Speakers/Headphones. The W7 has none of these.
• The W8 computer has a Dell Wireless 1705 Bluetooth listing. The W7 computer has only a Generic and a Microsoft Bluetooth adapter.
• The W8 computer has a Bluetooth Audio Device showing under Sounds, Video and Game Controllers. The W7 computer does not.

What should I do now please?

My new Dell XPS 13-9333 will not wake from sleep after closing the lid. I'll caveat that by saying it will wake if the lid has only been closed for about five minutes but anymore than that and I must restart the computer. That means that all the work I had open when I closed the lid is lost. That's kind of a bummer because one of the very nice things about having an ultrabook is the ability to be mobile and to pick up and move.

I tried going through the steps outlined in the Intel Responsiveness Technologies white paper to set up the computer for Rapid Start as outlined in this thread. All of the steps work as advertised except when I get to the step to designate the new partition as a hibernation partition (which apparently is required for Rapid Start and Dell didn't ship the XPS 13 in that configuration even though it's supposed to be configured for Rapid Start out of the box?).

However diskpart.exe won't designate the new partition as a hibernation partition. It gets set as a primary partition. The command given in the white paper to create the hibernation partition is "set id=84 override". That command fails. Apparently, that command only works on "MBR" drives.

I figured out that the reason it fails is that I have a "GPT" drive vs a "MBR" drive. I have no idea what the difference is between those two kinds of drives. I'm not a computer expert. After doing some more research on the net, I discovered that I need to use the command "set id=D3BFE2DE-3DAF-11DF-BA40-E3A556D89593". That's supposed to work for GPT drives. Eureka! Or so I thought.

That command succeeds. I get the response, "DiskPart successfully set the partition ID." But it's not a hibernation partition. It's a primary partition. Disk Manager shows "8.00 GB Healthy (Primary Partition)". What happened to me is pretty much exactly the same as this guy described in this thread.

How do I fix this? It's super-annoying having to restart the computer all of the time. It's like my XPS 13 has amnesia.

All of a sudden my Dell Latitude E4300 will not accept the password it has been accepting for years!  I tried going into the system settings and resetting the password to the same thing it was before, but that didn't work.  The password works for logging on the computer but not for logging on to Windows XP.  Another laptop I have (Dell Latitude D531) is set for the same password, and it still works fine.

Hello world can some one please help me with a small problem with my dell laptop.

MSI Afterburner, CoreTemp, SpeedFan. The GPU Temperature Is 0 Celcius ! That's Impossible ! I Think That There Is A Problem On This Laptop, so Please help Me !

I just got a new Dell Inspirion 13, and I've noticed that the screen brightness keeps changing depending on what website I am on. Is there a way to stop this from happening? I have auto-brightness turned off.

Sinceramente, nunca creí decir esto: ESTOY ARREPENTIDO DE COMPRAR ESTA PORTATIL DELL. Siempre creí que hera la mejor del mundo. Pero ahora, NO. 

he gastado mucho dinero en resolver el problema, y al final del camino me encuentro con que es un problema de diseño.

Hi

I am having Dell Inspiron 15R SE 7520 model laptop.

Today morning when I started my laptop I got beeps continuously. So I restarted by removing power supply and USB devices. Then it started and got an error message about peripheral_error(did not remember properly) and collecting information about it. Then it got stuck at 100% for 10min so using power button restarted and it worked.

Later after 20min laptor again restarted with kernel_security_failure for which collecting information stopped at 55% for 5 min. From this point after I restarted I am getting 4 beeps continuously.

Tried draining power but still same problem.

Please help me solving this problem.

Can anyone please help me out?? 

The laptop is running Windows 7, its my sisters and she hasnt done updates in a long time (i know..) and she let someone who obviously wasnt qualified run updates and switch settings a long time ago. So she asked me to take a look at it, I found the firewall settings were all whacky and were blocking everything (why she couldnt get on IE but there was a connection). And almost all of her Windows security features were off.. with the exception of the firewall. So I adjusted them to where they should be, and it showed many updates that were needed. I then chose to update the features (some were an a critical level) and it went to the typical 'dont power off or unplug, installing 1 out of 9 updates"

**Its been like that for almost 24 hours, AND I have tried many times to shutdown and press f12 when i turn it back on- all that does is go right back to the same page (installing updates..blah.. blah.. blah)

Are there any other options?? Im getting ready to throw it out the window! Thank you :)

I have  a new XPS 13 laptop and it constantly loses internet connection after periods of being idol; approx 15-20 mins.  The indicator notes I am connected to the wifi at full signal, but the internet will not load.  After a restart the connection is fine again.  

Any ideas how to remedy?   Thanks so much!
