Laptop (dell inspiron 15-7000 series-7537) wont start

Yesterday my dell computer would not come on. When I hit the power button the keyboard would light up but the screen would not start. The computer was completely charged and the power cord works with no problems. It does not have a battery pack so I let the battery completely drain overnight. When I tried to turn the computer on again after 3 attempts of holding down the power button it finally rebooted. While my computer is working now I am concerned that this may happen again and that next time my computer will not start at all. Any suggestions or recommendations as to what could have caused this problem and how to prevent it from happening again. I completely love my touchscreen dell and would hate for it not to work!

Issues with 8.1 update

I own an Inspiron 3537. I bought it with Win 8.0 installed so a few days after the purchase,  the update insrtalled the 8.1 win update.

The computer started having an extremely erratic behaviour. I asked around and figured out it is a common problem with 8.1 update. So, I rolled back to a clean 8.0 install and proceeded to install 8.1. To no avail - the problems persisted. Even before installing any additional software.

Unfortunately, it seems I can't turn off the 8.1 update - it forces itself on my installation, no matter what. It causes lots of problems with software and one major hardware problem: I cannot shut down my computer throuth Windows, I have to use the shut down button on my laptop. This can't be very good.

Please, guide me through this. What should I do so either 8.1 installs without causing that kind of problems or I can skip 8.1 installation altogether.

Thank you

I ordered the above battery to replace the battery I got when I purchased the laptop. Website says its compatible with my laptop; however the battery doesn't seem to fit. Is it supposed to fit and I'm an idiot or what?

Thanks for any help!

Inspiron 11 2-1 convertible laptop

I recently received the inspiron 2- 1 laptop as a gift, and I absolutely love it for its size, style, aesthetics etc. However, it only has a base Intel processor and it's entirely too slow. I was wondering if a processor swap is possible? If so, what's the most powerful that will work? (I3 - I5 etc)

Powers on but no post. Continous loud un-ending tick sound

Like many posts I have read, my Inspiron powers up, fan comes on for 2-3  secs., then tick sound begins. HDD never turns on and display remains black. I have switched mem., removed hdd and dvd drive. Tried fn key then power. Tried power for 20 secs. Measured pwr supply voltage at 19.5v. Removed MB, inspection showed nothing obvious. My problem began months ago but removing all power for a minute then retrying produced good boot. I read their is a problem with the chipset overheating. Especially the northbridge. I am an amatuer hardware tech but I can usually solve most problems by switching components, memory, etc.

This is a very common dell problem and shows very poor quality control. I am certain they know the solution to the hardware failure but instead of recognizing and helping their customers they prefer to ignore their customers. As a successful consultant in Texas I have recommended dell many times. THEY HAVE LOST MY BUSINESS and anyone elses I talk to. ANY HARDWARE TECHS OUT THERE THAT CAN HELP, PLEASE ?

The mobo in my dell studio 1555 is dead and needs replaced. The code on the mobo is 'DA0FM8MB8E0'  and PWB: W018J'

There doesnt seems to be many with the same PWB as my mobo. I am finding alot with the codes '31FM8MB0010' PWB: D177m'

Can anyone tell me what the difference would be between these and would it still work 100% if i replaced them with eachother?

Thanks in advance

Trouble getting max clock speed of processor in Inspiron 1521

HI,

I’m having trouble with my Dell Inspiron 1521. It has been lying around for a while. Now I wanted to use it again but the battery is dead. Thats not the problem though. I can’t seem to get the processor to run in full speed. It seems to be locked at 800mhz instead of running in 1.7ghz. Because of that the cpu load is almost constantly at 100% whatever I do (about 0-20% when idle).

This is what I’ve done:

  • Updated to latest bios (A06).
  • Reinstalled operating system and updated with latest updates (Microsoft Windows 7 x64).
  • Set everything on ”High performance” in Windows settings.
  • Enabled and disabled PowerNow! function in bios.
  • Ran Prime95 while checking clock speed with CPU-Z (see screenshot below).
  • Tried the above with and without the battery.

www.dropbox.com/.../prime-powernow-enabled.jpg

The battery is mostly not recognized at all. Minimum clock speed is 800mhz so I guess it’s stuck in some power save mode? Is there anything more that I can try? What else do you need to know?

Thanks,
Stefan

Starting Windows Delay and Intel Graphics Critical Error

$

Hi,

I've run into a couple issues (perhaps the same problem?), since I reinstalled Windows 7 on my Dell Latitude e6520 machine.

First, there's a significant delay between the Windows Starting screen and the login screen--about 30 seconds. There's also about the same delay between login and desktop.

Second, while investigating this black screen issue, I found a critical error that concerned the machine's graphics drivers. Here's the description of the error:

Log Name: Microsoft-Windows-Diagnostics-Performance/Operational
Source: Microsoft-Windows-Diagnostics-Performance
Date: 2/17/2015 9:47:08 AM
Event ID: 351
Task Category: Standby Performance Monitoring
Level: Critical
Keywords: Event Log
User: LOCAL SERVICE
Computer: <MyPC>

This driver responded slower than expected to the resume request while servicing this device:
Driver File Name : \Driver\igfx
Driver Friendly Name : Intel Graphics Kernel Mode Driver
Driver Version : 8.15.10.2418
Driver Total Time : 2838ms
Driver Degradation Time : 2438ms
Incident Time (UTC) : ‎2015‎-‎02‎-‎17T17:46:59.585734700Z
Device Name : PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0126&SUBSYS_04941028&REV_09\3&11583659&0&10
Device Friendly Name : Intel(R) HD Graphics Family
Device Total Time : 2854ms
Device Degradation Time : 2454ms

There's scant information online and Microsoft just refers you to your manufacturer, so I thought I'd ask here to see if anyone else has encountered this issue.

The machine seems to be working pretty well otherwise. I'm just hesitant to get all my data back on it until I resolve these issues-particularly the critical error. I can live with a slow startup, so long as it doesn't get progressively worse.

Many thanks for your feedback.

XPS12 (9Q33) will not recover from hibernate or sleep after BIOS A07 update unless video driver is disabled

I have recently upgraded my 9Q33 to BIOS release A07 as recommended on the Dell web site.  That process was difficult, but ultimately appears to have succeeded.  Please see the following post for description of the problems associated with upgrading to BIOS A07:

http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19620514

Now my computer will not wake up from hibernate or sleep.  Since "fast startup" in Windows 8.1 uses hibernation, I had to disable "fast startup" in Windows just to allow my computer to boot properly.  Again, the details are in the post above.

I have started a new thread, because my lingering problems are not really associated with the process of installing the BIOS upgrade, but now appear related to incompatibilities with the video driver.

So, my computer locks up with a black screen every time I try to come back from sleep or hybernate mode.  Here's what I know:

If I disable my video driver, waking up from sleep or hibernate work just fine.

I have the most recent video driver from the dell website installed (Intel HD graphics family 10.18.10.3960)

If anyone out there has upgraded to BIOS A07 (which I don't recommend -- again, see link to that thread above) and can wake from sleep or hibernate successfully with the Intel HD graphics driver enabled, I would appreciate any information you could provide.

Thanks.

EDIT:  Because of the extreme difficulty of the process by which I installed the A07 BIOS (see link above), I was hesitant to try downgrading the BIOS.  But since nothing else worked, I went ahead and risked it.  I downloaded BIOS version A06, used task manager to stop every background process I dared to stop, and flashed the BIOS from within windows.  (Flashing from DOS didn't work -- the BIOS update refused to run).

No problems were encountered installing A06 and now my computer hibernates and sleeps with the video driver enabled.

I would avoid the A07 BIOS for the Dell XPS12 (model 9Q33).  Perhaps the problem was with the failed installation, but if you check out the link above, I'm not the only one who has had trouble with the installation failing.

Perhaps I'm superstitious, but during the A07 install (which went awry), I didn't close out background processes and I had an external monitor and keyboard plugged in.  The A06 install (which worked perfectly) occurred with background processes killed from task manager and without an external keyboard or monitor.

Consider yourself warned!

ATTEMPT AT GETTING REPLIES TO FORUM QUESTIONS

Most of my Forum questions get viewed but very rarely get any REPLIES  ie my request for technical assistance are not answered.

I have also tried sending a PRIVATE MESSAGE to Mohammed S @Dell also with no success

I do not think I need to supply email address but can you lease tell me what I am doing wrong. Really I would like a freecall chat from United Kingdom to Dell  I had initially logged call with miscrosoft as current problem linked to Microsoft windows 7 and windows backup, but was told that I should go to manufacturer as they supplied software pre-loaded. You  should have my email and telephone numbers.

Many thanks

Vostro 3560 WiFi + BT Drivers Won't Install

$

We have a Vostro 3560 that for various reasons we needed to reinstall Windows 7 x64 onto (fresh install after initializing the primary storage volume). I downloaded and reinstalled most of the drivers on the machine, but the WiFi + BT driver package asks me to turn on the bluetooth switch before it can continue. I cannot locate a physical switch on the machine. Skipping the BT installation results in the WiFi drivers not being installed as well. Windows 7 installed a generic BT driver and it appears to be functioning just fine, so it appears to me that BT is turned on. We do not need the BT functioning, but we do need the WiFi functioning. How do I get this driver package to install? Do I need to remove the existing generic driver from the BT hardware? Is there a way to get only the WiFi driver install package?

Inspiron 17R will not start up and pings/clicks persistently

I hit the power button to start the laptop, but only heard pinging/clicking.  Held the button to turn off but one light did not go out.  No start at all.  After several hours of unplugging the power and plugging back in, hit fn and power, release power- hold fn til diag screen.  Got diagnostic testing, ran it for 3 hours or more until 100%.  Laptop went to the Dell screen and loaded up.  Then got "Server Script line 56 attempt to index global DBRFactory setup version result (a nil value).

I've not had this laptop 2 years yet and have never seen a problem like it from any other computers in the past.  What is happening?  Plus, the scripting issue comes and goes out of the blue more often.

A professional diagnostic correction to this problem would be helpful.

Thanks.
