I've recently bought new memory as part of an upgrade for my mothers Inspiron 1720.

Its old I know but it didn't get much wear and tear and i figured I could get more life out of it with a few upgrades for less than the cost of a new laptop.

It had been grinding along under Vista with blue screens more recently so I offered to put windows 7 onto it with a new HDD and also to replace the system ram from 2X1Gb to 2 X2Gb.

Got everything installed and the machine is working away but when I ran cpu-z to test that the ram was working OK I noticed that it is running at 265.5MHz with timings of 4 4 4 12, I was expecting to see 333MHz at 5 5 5 15. (new ram is 2 X 2GB G-Skill DDRII667 PC2-5300)

It was my understanding that the Inspiron 1720 supports 667 MHz DDR2 ram.

Any idea why the ram is running at 531MHz instead of 667MHz?

My Latitude E6420 crashed during a BIO update.  Now it's won't restart.  The battery charge LED is flashing and the power LED is on but the computer will not restart.  I've tried holding down the power button for 10-secs but this makes no difference.  Does anyone know how to get the computer to shutdown and restart?

I have a used Inspiron 1318.  I went to User Accounts a few days ago to reset my password, as I regularly do.  I cannot, for the life of me, recall what I made it :-\   For the last few days I've been trying random words while brainstorming.

I've also yahoo searched & googled how to fix it.  Some say start in SafeMode etc....it was at this point I realized none of the F1-F12 keys work.....neither with or without FN key pressed.  Across the top above the keys is my lit WiFi light & to the left of it is what looks like a padlock with a number 9 in it.  This is a small laptop with NO side number pad so it cannot be a NumLock key issue.  

Any ideas on the FN keys issue?

Any thoughts on how to get around this password to do away with it for good?

I called Dell support already only to be told the service tag does NOT match my name......well DUH!

Its old and used and I've no clue who original order'er was\is.  

HELP PLEASE!!!

I have an LG monitor (L1960TR) that I want to connect to my Dell Inspiron 14R laptop.

In the past I would just plug it in, Fn + (display button) to switch to the monitor, and be done with it.

Haven't used it in a few months and was trying to get it working today, but it isn't.

From the monitor, I have a DVI cable going to a DVI -> VGA converter, plugged into my laptop's VGA port. Monitor is on (amber light indicating it is not getting a signal), all cables attached, but it is not receiving a signal.

I restarted the computer with it plugged in, still nothing.

What else can I try?

Hi,

I have the new XPS 13 2015 laptop with the Broadcom 802.11ac configuration. I am unable to see my 5Ghz WiFi network and can only connect to the 2.4Ghz band. My router is the Asus RT-N66U. Is there a solution?

Can anybody check in BitLocker if there is a yellow info line above stating "For your security, some settings are managed by your system administrator" with bitlocker and secure boot running? My device is XPS 9530 and Windows 8.1 PRO
Admin is me and it's stand alone machine.
Any ideas?

Hi Everybody. Sorry. I'm new and stupid but my USB's stopped working on my Dell E6400. I tried to download the fix and it says my computer does not meet the requirements. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you. And I'm sorry if I'm in the wrong category. Told you I was stupid.

Hi Anyone, 

Please help me.  I bought this dell Inspiron 1100 from craiglist a year ago.  it worked fine, but for some reason, about 6 months ago, I decided to try to put the memory slots from another laptop into this one ...and that's how all the problems started :(

Now, 6 months later, it is still not working, but I am in need of a working computer so I decided to tackle this again.  After searching all over the internet I'm hoping someone here can help.

When I turn the laptop on, it only goes as far as the dell boot screen (upper right corner has F2 or F12 options) Then it goes to a grey screen with white lettering saying "we apoligize....windows did not start successfully.  A recent hardware or software problem may have caused this"      Then, it gives me options to start windows normally, or safe mode, with/ or w/o networking, etc. but even when I highlight last known good config....it does nothing.

When I go into the F2 menu, it shows that the configuration is disabled and does not allow me to highlight options to load from CD. 

On another page, by pressing ALT+P, it shows that ADMIN password is enabled and configure set is Disabled.  

I have tried all my password combos, and no luck.

Because I bought it used, for only $50.00, all I got was the laptop and plug, no original CD.  

I'm stuck, I don't know much about tech stuff but I am capable of following directions.  I am on a limited income and can not afford to invest money into getting it fixed, so if anyone can help, I would be greatful.

Hi there.
After using my Dell XPS 15 for around 6 months quite some pixel lines went off, and hence the display was changed.
Now, approximately 23 months since I got the computer, I notice some white patches, as if something is not cleaned off the screen.
They are though mostly visible when the screen is displaying something bright, for instance a news webpage or in Excel.
Does anyone know of this issue, and eventually of the way to deal with it :)?

I'd like  to share D630 wake up problem and if someone knows better workaround let me know.

System:
Latitude D630 with A19 Bios / Windows 8.1

After upgrading to Win 8.1, D630 no longer wake up from sleep.

I've been searching the cause almost one year.
Wordkaround  info I read some says Ndivia and some says  O2micro but none worked.
Finally I found the workdaround(but not perfect)
It was System password in Bios.
When I set System password, wake up problem's gone magically.
But I don't get why.
If I set System password back to disable, wake up problem comes back.

Its OK to set System password for temporary solution.
But other than mine who are not familiar with PC confuses and they don't understand difference between Windows login password and System password.
Its pain to explain every time

So, let me know If someone knows how to fix wake up problem without setting System password.

I have DELL Studio 15 1558 Motherboard CN-0XJK10 XJK10x and it is not turning on perhaps due to motherboard issue. I was told that XJK10 would be the best compatible part for my system.

Finding it hard to get this part in Canada (Montreal), any suggestion? What should it cost approximately?

Is there any other compatible motherboard for my system or this is it?

Hi all,

I recently bought the new Inspiron 15 7000:

5th Generation Intel® Core™ i7 Processor

16Gb RAM

1TB HDD

AMD Radeon R7 M270 4GB DDR3

802.11ac + Bluetooth 4.0, Dual Band 2.4&5 GHz, 1x1

I was wondering whether is possible to get both SSD and HDD working together on this laptop. I found another thread created (en.community.dell.com/.../19528342) but it's old enough so I assume it refers to the old generation device.

Hi,

Help.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1750 and  today it won't boot all i get is a blank screen but after a short time i get 2 beeps. I did get a message saying there was a problem with start up and windows would fix it and i went through all  the procedure to do it but now  i just have the blank screen. I have tried pressing the D key on start up and i get all the colours up but nothing else seems to work.

Any ideas anyone

This is how DELL's brand new XPS 9530 mainboard looked like when it got shipped to me. It never booted up. It has been months and DELL didn't refund my money! DELL is total ***! It is *** and is so common around the globe.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 with 2 512MB memory sticks. I upgraded the laptop to Windows 7 and installed a 2GB memory stick. After rebooting, the machine only sees 512MB of available memory. It doesn't recognize the new 2GB memory stick. Any ideas ?
