I'm getting so frustrated with this problem that has me forcing a system shutdown in order to reboot, and I'm hoping that someone might give some suggestions.
What happens is that maybe 3 out of 4 times that my computer is suppose to sleep, the screen will go black, but my system remains on with the fan spinning and blowing out hot air - it will stay like this indefinitely until I force the system to shut down.
The is problem started after the Windows 8.1 December 2014 updates. And after some failed tests, I rolled back on the update via. system restore and things were fine - I didn't apply that Dec. update and waiting until about 2 weeks ago where I updated Windows again - then the problem came back.
So I tried to roll back again, but the problem persists and I've been trying everything to get this working.
1. All drivers are up to date, including the intel and Nvidia cards.
2. I've disabled network sharing.
3. I've disabled all options in the device manager that might prevent my system from sleeping.
4. I ran a file system scan which came back fine.
5 I ran the Dell diagnostics, which came back fine.
6. I've restored my bios defaults and reset the windows power manager settings.
7. I've uninstalled all software that I no longer use.
8. I've run CCleaner and fixed all registry errors.
9. I've checked my event viewer, but the last event (before having to force reboot) looks normal, and suggests the kernel received the sleep command.
I will point out that if I try to sleep the system on a fresh reboot, it will almost always sleep properly. After using it for an hour or more, the problem seems to manifest more often than not, but it will still SOMETIMES sleep properly, even after sitting for a while.
Any suggestions?Thank you in advance.
