Dell replaced my HDD with a new blank one under warranty but the operating system is not installed. I have an OEM USB that is labelled Windows 8. How do I install this to the blank disk? It will not automatically boot off the USB and start the process. Thanks.

So i was just playing guildwars2 and accidently spilt water on my keyboard. I immediately tilted my laptop and soaked water that i could see. I didnt turned my laptop rightaway just because i was checking if it was still okay. And it was. After like 5 minutes of checking I turned it off.
If my laptop is fine after 24hours of drying, can I use this like nothing happened?

Yesterday my granddaughter went to put the keyboard of her inspirion11 behind the monitor screen and one of the hinges caught (not sure how else to describe it). Now the hinges do not quite align and the screen is a little slanted when she uses the keyboard. We bought it in August 2014 when she started collage, so we have had it less than a year and are still paying on it. How best do we go about getting something like this fixed? Since its been less then a year would the warranty cover fixing it?
It sounds like the fan is failing but I want to test it first.
When I ran the diagnostics, received message that Dell System Detect "application may not be running" so I authorized the download, went through updating and installing but the process stopped with message "There was an issue running diagnostics."
Any help on how to complete diagnostics?
In my pc even after i shutdown the fan,USB and dvd drive still remains operational, have tried re-installing the operating system but didn't work please tell what to do?
Ive had my dell XPS 15z for two years, and whenever it flashes to indicate sleeping, it started making a whining, revving noise. I was thinking i needed a bios update, but im not entirely sure. I know the XPS have a lot of noise issues, i was just hoping someone could help,

My wife & I purchased new Inspiron 15 3000 Series Laptops with Windows 8.1 recently. We want the NumLock key to be on when the system boots up. The NumLock will come on after logging in if it was on when the system was last shut down and that's OK but how do we get the NumLock to come on automatically for the log in screen? I have tried the InitialKeyboardIndicators in the registry but it is changed automatically when you reboot to whatever state it is in when the system shuts down. I can't find anything in the system bios settings for this.
Is there a way to force the NumLock on regardless of its state at shutdown?

Unable to boot to Windows desktop.
When starting my Studio 1749 laptop with a factory installed Windows 7 OS, it automatically does a Windows CHKDSK and than goes to a blue screen with the STOP: c0000135 error message.
Diagnostics indicates 1 root cause. System files integrity check and repair result: Failed. Error code = 0x490.
Any suggestions on how to boot to Windows desktop?

Not looking for heroic measures. It is a 5 year old laptop after all. Can probably solve the situation for the short term with a USB wireless adapter?
Just looking for any ideas as to if there was an easy fix I am missing. It just up and stopped connecting. There is a yellow star on the wireless bars on the system tray.

I have a Dell Inspirion 17 R...and just recently I've been getting a "bzzt" from my audio...I've noticed that when I'm playing a DVD or streaming a video it halts whenever the "bzzt" happens...Do I have a short in my system or what? How do I get it fixed?

I own a Dell Inspiron N7110 and this experience started around 1 week ago. One day, I was browsing the internet and the computer froze (alt+f4, ctrl+alt+del weren't working, mouse wasn't moving) so I force shut it down. I tried turning it back on and got the dreaded 2 beep bios error code (it's RAM related). I called Dell and the guy instructed me to remove the RAM and place it back on again. I did, but the beeps continued. I tried unplugging everything and rebooting etc. nothing worked. The next day my computer worked normally. The day after that, my computer did the 2 beeps again. I took it to a computer shop and when I opened it to show it to them, it worked. They kept it on for a while and told me it worked fine and that something that I was plugging on it was making the laptop short circuit. I took it back home and plugged just my Logitech mouse on it. It worked fine for 20 mins or so, when the screen glitched and the laptop froze and shut off. I unplugged everything (except the power supply and the battery) and same thing happened. Comp worked fine for 15 mins and then screen glitched and it shut off. After that, I did the same with only the power supply plugged in (no battery on), still the same. After that, I plugged just the battery on, and this time the comp didn't even start, it was beeping 2 times AGAIN.
Someone please help me! Should I take this to Dell (my guarantee is over)

I have a Dell XPS 15 (L502X, Early 2011) with Windows 7 64 bit operating system.
I've had to reinstall Windows 7 because I was having video freeze with a baamp noise and nothing else that I tried was working. Since my warranty is expired, the technicians at Dell provided me with very limited information. After I reinstalled Windows 7 from the DVD, I was confused about how to use the drivers and utilities DVD. A technician at Dell suggested that I download and install only the network drivers for my computer from the Dell website. He said Microsoft updates would install the other drivers that I needed. That didn't turn out to be the case. Although my computer is working much better (I'm not getting the video freeze or the baamp noise), it's not fully functioning.
Here are a few problems that I'm aware of:
1) As I type this reply, my curser is moving to different parts of the page, so maybe I need an update to my keyboard driver?
2) I ran a systems analysis for my express service code (a code that identifies my computer and it's systems/components) from the drivers and downloads page at the dell.com/support site. I followed the instructions for the 7 driver updates that were recommended. However, even though they all appeared to be installed successfully, the analysis still shows ( I ran it several times after downloading the driver updates) that I need to install 5 of the seven drivers: Dell XPS L502X System BIOS, Intel HD 3000/2000 Graphics Driver, Intel HM67 Chipset Driver, Dell Touchpad Driver, and the Intel Management Engine Interface Driver. I tried installing the first two drivers for a second time, but was unsuccessful.
I called the Dell out of warranty support desk again, and another technician suggested I try installing the drivers from the DVD, which is where I began to be confused. I don't know which drivers to select and install.
3) The device manager on my computer shows yellow exclamation points in the "Other Devices" section under the headings: Dell Wireless 5620 (EV-DO-HSPA) Mobile Broadband Mini-Card; SM Bus Controller; and Unknown Device.
4) The control strip features: #3 battery status light; #5 instant launch control; and #6 audio control-panel control, are not functioning.

Hi guys, im having a bit of a problem with my GPU, the problem occurred with a notification that display driver stopped responding and it started popping out in the corner for about 2 seconds and then the whole PC blocked, after i restarted it i couldn't start up the system at all and kept getting BSOD with a VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE and a few other errors BTW i'm using Windows 8.1
I tried formatting the system partition along with the system backup and re-installed the windows, i successfully installed everything back up except for the 7730m GPU driver, the Intel HD4000 is working fine and i am not noticing any other errors but when i install the drivers for 7730 BSOD with VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE keeps crashing the whole thing till i go into safe mode and remove the drivers, my question now is if the 7730GPU died or not and if there are solutions for this

I have a Dell Inspiron 7537 with windows 8.1, all the recent official drivers from dell page and it seems it starts and resumes from sleep without any reason (It starts by itself at night; I am turning it off but finding it on when I came back home).
I checked all the functions wake on from Bios and device manager, I disabled Intel rapid storage function, checked all battery setting in windows - everything seems fine.
I run the "powercfg -devicequery wake_armed" command to see which device can wake the computer but I get a "None" answer. Also I run the command to see the last wake up cause and it prompt that it was triggered by the power button.
Any advice is appreciated.
Hello. I am having almost the same problem. My Dell Inspiron 1721 powers on and nothing on the screen. I ran the display test and the LCD powers on. The only light when i turn on the PC is the power light. no hard drive light or anything else. I tried turning it on while holding down FN. The Scroll Lock light remains on and the number lock and the caps lock blinks in sync. And also when i do that nothing comes on the screen. Also there is no possible way to open the cd drive. I press the eject button and it dosent eject. Any suggestions

I did something stupid!
A cup of green tea went of the keyboard of my 1 month old laptop!
It is still working but only the tough-pad is acting weird... (Does not follow my command.)
The laptop is disassembled by me, to dry!
But what if it is still not working after it is dried, will warranty kick in or not?
I feel so dumb... At least the tea was without sugar... [:)]

I recently purchased Inspiron 14-5447 which came with pre installed windows 8.1 but I want to install windows 7 (64 bit)along with windows 8.1in that machine, as my mom is comfortable with windows 7. I tried to install with legacy boot (USB) it showed error message that windows 7 can't be installed in gpt partition and when i tried to install with uefi boot with secure boot turned off (USB bootable created with rufus for uefi booting) the installed hanged/freezed at windows 7 starting logo. can somebody help me to install windows 7 in that laptop.
Technology should be simple so that even a lay man can use it and I was shocked to see that dell has made even installation of os in a laptop so tough that even a pro can get baffled and that too just promote windows 8.
