Cursor Jump - Using Google Documents
I have an old Inspiron N5010. Still work great on everything but Google documents. When using the touch pad, if you click on for example line three, the cursor jumps down to line five. I have to use the arrow keys to get it the location I want to edit.
Is there an update out there to fix this? The touch pad and mouse work fine in all other applications. ie Word, Excel, PowerPoint
M11x r2 Alienware Webcam probelm
I cannot get the system to recognize my webcam, all the drivers have been loaded, and I have tried both Dell Webcam Central, and the Webcam program Cyberlink that came on the disk, It does show the facap in the system, but that does not work either, Alien Commander has been install, there is one item in the system box that shows it has no drivers , and is unknown.
I have loaded all drivers for the M11X r2, and have tried 2 new LCD assemblies so it is not the hardware there???
anyone seen this before?
FYI - ePSA fixed my NO POST issue
Just spent several hours this morning, so figured I'd share in case this might help someone else in future.
Short form -
1. removed Logitech Unifying Receiver from USB port
2. ran ePSA and passed all initial tests
3. let ePSA run extended memory tests (when it found/installed "new" USB device)
4. exited ePSA and booted normally
Here is the long form -
Scenario:
- Inspiron 15R (5537, Mid 2013) with Windows 8.1x
- went to sleep with Logitech Unifying Receiver in a USB port
- when I tried to power it back on, got a series of beeps
- said some choice words, as same issue happened about this time last year (while still under warranty!), and Dell support sent out a technician to replace... something (motherboard?). So I assumed the same fix would be needed - but now I'm out of warranty. [The combination of sleep mode + logitech receiver + very dry winter air seems to be the common thread here.]
- spent hours searching Dell support for beep codes for this model (did not find)
What I did:
- removed Logitech receiver from USB port
- ran the extended PSA (ePSA) by holding Fn key while powering on (took much longer than the 4 min referenced on Dell support page)
- waited til ePSA had finished running basic tests; was prompted that ALL tests had passed, and did I want to run extended memory tests? I chose YES
- waited probably 20-30 minutes (seemed "stuck" on hard drive long test), then Escaped out.
- ran several device tests in "thorough" mode, then restarted hard drive "thorough" test.
- at some point while running the hard drive test in thorough mode, there was a popup stating that a new USB device had been found and installed.
- at some point I got tired of waiting forever for the hard drive thorough test, and pressed Esc to abort it, then clicked Exit to reboot. (my thought was to do a new reboot and count the beeps this time.) To my surprise... it booted right up!!!!!
Laptop freezes when connected to WiFi
Hello,
Two months ago i bought Dell Inspiron 3542 laptop. It was working fine until one day my laptop freezes when i connected it to WiFi. Studio 1555 1 high volume beep + 2 beeps then 6 beeps repeating.
Hi guys,
Few months back, my laptop started to show problems. After clicking power ON. Fan and keyboard will glow up, but display did not turn on. After 2-3 minutes, display automatically turns up and starts booting.
Now, I have got this problem, no display. 1 high volume beep followed by 2 beeps. Then high frequency 6 beeps repeating. Tried connecting HDMI also, but no avail. After doing some research I found that Video card may-be problem.
I have three questions here:
1. Can the laptop run without graphics cards, with inbuilt video memory ?
2. What are the compatible graphics cards with this motherboard ?
3. If I buy ATI graphics card, can I get some competent repair shops to replace it ?
I bought Studio1555 around 3 years back, no warranty. I am a heavy user. I have already spent thousand of rupees in Battery and Hinge replacement. And the configuration still holds good till now. 500GB + 4GB + Core2 Duo 2.1Ghz. (no issue in performance while it was working).
I just want the cheapest solution :( . As I will not get good returns in selling dead laptop, and I have to buy a new one.
hard drive DST short test error code 0146
Please help.
Inspiron 1545 with ATI Radeon on board
Replaced motherboard. At first the system said smth like "Memory configuration was changed" - I have 2 pieces of RAM and don't remember in which slot was each of them - Consider this is not an issue as they're same things.
During test I've got "hard drive DST short test error code 0146 " - and hit continue test.
So what is that and how to fix ??? Hope no need to take the battery out (as some forums suggest for desktops).

random message operation system not found
Hi,
I have got a L702X Dell notebook.
Some weeks ago, a problem suddenly occurred.
From time to time, when I try to start the computer, I get the following message :
"operation system not found"
I need to switch the computer on and off several times before Windows can start.
When Windows (seven 64 bits) has started, there in not any disconnection.
When the problem occurred, I try to start from a CD, but the CD reader did not work (although such CD reader works perfectly when Windows has started).
Would you have any idea of the problem source ?
Thank you in advance for any reply.

Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030 reset
For the past while I have been having an increasingly common issue of having to reset my wireless network adapter. When this issue comes up my internet quickly crashes and I cannot connect to any wireless networks although sometimes I am able to view them. If i do the troubleshooting it fixes it usually although occasionally I have to restart my computer to do it. Other times it cannot find the problem although it always seems to be this same thing. Not the biggest deal in the world but annoying to have to continually fix and it can cause problems when im in a time crunch. Is there anything I can do to fix this or am i just going to have to replace it?
Inspiron 13 7000 Series 2-in-1 Touchpad cursor dissapears
Hi there,
Just bought this laptop, was really excited... but, the 2nd time I turned it on, the cursor disappeared, and the touch pad was not working. Luckily, touchscreen was fine, so I shut down and reboot. The cursor and touchpad was working again. The laptop went to sleep, and when I woke it up, the cursor and touchpad were missing again.
This seems to be a recurring problem...
I've had the laptop only 1 day... and am thinking of returning it if there is no way to fix this issues.
Can anyone help?
Thanks!
Fan always full speed - L702X
Hello
I recently got a Dell XPS 17 L702X on my hands, discovered it ran pretty hot under load(CPU), and decided to change the thermal paste and remove any dust in the heatsink. I studied a few videos, and went for it. It went great, and the CPU was now running 10-15c lower than before.
Off the bat, it was working properly, and the fan would run slow till ~60c, then ramp up, but one day, it went all out, and ever since, it has been running full speed the entire time. It happend just as i installed a Windows update, and thought to myself, could this be the cause? So I rolled back the C drive, but even then, it's full throttle.
I then decided to completely reinstall Windows 7 and see if that worked.. It did not.
I have tried Dell Diagnostics tool, both from the website and from the boot menu, but none of them detects a problem(does it check the fan?), i also tried to install all drivers from the Dell website, including updating the BIOS, but no luck. It seems there is no way in the BIOS to control the fan speed either.
So i decided to try my luck here, maybe someone got an idea i have not thought of.
Best regards
Stuck CD in XPS l521x
There is a CD stuck in my slot drive of my XPS L521x. I have tried State>Computer>Device>Right-click eject several times with no success. I have also tried Fn & F7 - no success (many times). I looked at lots of you tube videos and gave it a try - credit cards, paper clips (carefully) and knife (very carefully).
I am now down to opening the back of my laptop - before I take that plunge, does anyone have a suggestion to extract this @#$%CD!?
Sorry -- just my frustration - any help would be really appreciated.

Dell Power Companion is confusing and maybe misleading
I bought a Dell Power Companion. Seems like a reasonable idea for a battery, but it's so poorly documented that I'm confused.
It has no written documentation. It only ships with a few pictures. One of the pictures shows plugging your laptop's charger into it to charge it. Fine.
The other series of pictures is labelled "Charge your device". It shows two steps: 1) plug the Power Companion into your laptop. 2) Push the little button on the Power Companion. Why do I push this button? It charges with or without me pushing it. On the printed "documentation" it labels this button with the universal power on/off symbol (the circle with the vertical line in it). But this button doesn't appear to turn anything on/off. It simply lights up the five tiny white charge level indicator lights. But if I hold the button down for a long time and then release then it turns on just one charge indicator LED (the one representing full charge). What does this special mode mean?
One of the little lights will turn orange sometimes when I plug in the charger and other times it won't. I assume ths means "charging", but why does it sometimes not turn on?
Next question: It doesn't charge my laptop. It powers my laptop, but won't charge it. In Win 8, if I hover on the battery icon it says, "plugged in, not charging". I guess this is ok. The laptop runs, and it's presumably a more efficient use of the power than charging the laptop's battery. But Dell's product web page (accessories.us.dell.com/.../productdetail.aspx;l=en&s=dfo&sku=451-bblz) says that it should charge the laptop: "the two USB charging ports let you simultaneously charge a pair of mobile devices in addition to your Dell Laptop." It also says, "The Dell Power Companion is designed to deliver in-bag charging, so your devices are charged when you need them." I have yet to see this thing charge my laptop.
Finally, there is a photo on the product web page showing the charger being plugged into the Power Companion, and the Power Companion being plugged into the laptop. This makes sense to me, and what I would assume this would do is first charge the battery of the Power Companion, then charge the battery of the laptop, all while powering the laptop for use. Or maybe charge the batteries in the opposite order. But does it do this? Nope. It powers the laptop and charges the Power Companion, but again, I have yet to see this thing charge my laptop.
This really ***! If I plug both things in over night, then in the morning I want them both to be charged. That's not possible here. I have to either wake up in the middle of the night and unplug the Power Companion to start the laptop charging, or I have to bring two chargers with me.
My laptop is a late 2013 Dell XPS 15.

Inspirion 3543 / 3542 - model and drivers issue
Hello,
I'am confused.
I've bought Inspirion 3543 (I357810DDL-45) laptop. Currently I have Windows 7 OS on it. The problem appeared when I went to Dell.com to download required drivers. Once I submitted an express servise code the site told me that it's Inspirion 3542, but really I have 3543 (intel Core i7-5500U (2.4) / RAM 8 / HDD 1 TB / nVidia GeForce 840M, 2GB...)
So first anyway I tried to install drivers for 3542, but sure they didn't fit. Then I went to Inspirion 3543 page download and downloaded those drivers. Most of them were fine, but not all. I could not install Iternet and Wireless drivers. (The update installer operation is unsuccessful.)
What should I do to install all of the needed drivers?
And mostly I want to know why my serial number and express service number say that it is another model?
Hope you can help me somehow.
Kind regards, DPiasecki
Inspiron 3878 confusing HDD issue
Hello. I recently bought this laptop that my teacher had bought from the local Wal-Mart for around $100 bucks. I thought it was a good deal, considering its worth roughly $400 on Amazon. He had it for 15 days, then somehow moved it too much and ruined the HDD (hes not too bright). Dell sent him a replacement HDD, meanwhile he bought a flash-based tablet. Now before I bought it he put in the HDD and said he powered it on and it began setting up, so he just turned it off (problem 2). Last night it ran for 11 hours on a back screen that said something along the lines of "Hard drive recognized...installing factory software...mouse and keyboard will be disabled... needs 60 minutes". 11 hrs later, i realized nothing was happening and powered it off, powered it back on, and get the Win8 lock screen after logging in to the Admin account. No Keyboard, No mouse. I can not for the life of me figure out how to enter the setup that my teacher had it in before. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
