Ive had had my XPS 15 l502x from new for around 4 years now. Recently I have been expieriencing frerquent BSODs, mainly KERNAL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR 0x0000007A each time with a failed physical memory dump. I have done some research around forums regarding this error which mainly point to either HDD failure or bad RAM. I have also suffered from increasingly slow windows boot up and some cases of non starting windows causing start up repair to kick in.
I've scanned with the included Dell checkup software which initially showed no errors except for a couple of RTC accuracy test fails, which only disappeared when I reset the internet time server. I have used the memory scan function in windows and dells software, I have ran chkdsk /f /r several times and used crystal disk info S.M.A.R.T test which at the start of my symptoms was all clear but now showing caution - reallocated sector count (100). and my Dell through a 8 bad sectors report. Oh system restore hasnt worked either, I think it said it failed once?
I do have a lot of hardware attatched as it the hub of my music studio, audio interface, midi interface, midi controllers but I have used it for a long time like this.
My big question is does this look likely to be my HDD failing? Corrupted windows? Or worse?
I have gone ahead and ordered a 512gig SSD. Got a factory image and also an ISO of the windows edition for a clean install if thats the way to go.
What would be your recommended next step? Should I go ahead and install the SSD and windows?
Thanks for listening.
