Hi, I am having a Dell Inspiron 3521 laptop which came with a Ubuntu installation. For obvious reasons I shifted to Windows 8.1 x64 pro but immediately my machine no longer detected networks. In fact, I can only see the option to use wired connection now (after installing some drivers from Dell) in the system tray network notification.

I was wondering if someone could help me. I have a N5110 that just recently started acting up.
When I turn it on, it shows me the dell screen and then it tries to boot windows but then it turns off right away. Sometimes it gets far enough to show me a black screen with white lettering that says windows boot manager and wants me to select windows 7 as the operating system but when I try to hit enter to select it, the laptop wont respond and it turns off.
I tried pressing f12 and running diagnostics. Sometimes it will respond and let me get to the blue boot device screen but then it stops responding and wont let me run the diagnostic, then it turns off.
This also happened yesterday but after a few tries i was able to run the diagnostic and it came back saying everything was great, then my laptop rebooted and worked just fine. But today when I try to turn it on it wont work, I have been at it for over an hour.
also, when i try to boot it, it will sometimes give me beep codes: 2 beeps, then 1 long beep. It only has time to do this once before it turns off.
I have read these forums and think something might be wrong with the motherboard but I'm not sure. It is out of warranty. Can someone just confirm my suspicion? Thanks
Do these motherboards have replaceable CPU sockets?
In my E6320 it appears embedded into the motherboard with screws on the back side of the board.
Can the CPU be replaced or do I have to buy a motherboard that already has the CPU integrated into the board.

I have an Inspiron 1564 (2010). I've install 2x4GB RAM sticks for total 8GB. Unfortunately, after booting up Windows 7 (64-bit), it still shows 4GB and not 8GB.
The BIOS also shows that it's 4GB. BIOS version is A01. Dell support site has a newer BIOS (A13). I downloaded it and went thru the process of flashing it. It showed that it flashed successfully. However, when I booted up the laptop, the BIOS still shows A01.
Is there an issue with updating BIOS from A01 to A13? If so, does anyone have an older copy of BIOS that I can dowload and flash?

I have an old Inspiron 1750. I bought a new Dell battery and I am getting the message plugged in, not charging. I have the original DELL charger. This was not a problem with the old (not DELL) battery, which still charged but only held the charge for 10 minutes.
I have the DVI/DP ports working as expected, however none of the USB ports work (side 2.0 or rear 3.0)
Is there a specific Win7 64-bit driver for the USB controller inside?

I've installed the Renesys USB 3.0 drivers from the E6520 driver page, and the PR02X was sealed when I bought it...
I'm using a Dell laptop, I bought it like 9 months ago so anyway, I get these random blue screens sometimes twice in the same day, sometimes I get a blue screen after 6 days or so. I'm not sure what is doing this because I tried a memory test and hard drive one and everything was ok, I tried updating a couple of my drivers and I still got it. I think it's because my graphic card's driver is not supporting my OS(I'll put my specs down below) but I'm not sure that's why I'm posting here so I can get rid of this problem.

After I boot up my Laptop Inspiron 17R the folloeing msg comes up
Roxwatch tray 120em.exe system error.
The program can't start because layout dll is missing from the computer. try rein stalling the program to fix this problem.
I don't have a dvd with this program. How do i rein stall it .

I realize my computer is old and XP is no longer supported, however for my purposes it is still a very useful system.
As of late i have been having trouble connecting, and staying connected through wireless. I tried downloading new software and drivers. I uninstalled former drivers. It appears that everything reinstalls correctly, but when I try to connect I receive the following:
Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless WiFi Software version 13.5.0.0. does not support Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection device driver version 11.5.0.32.
Please either update the driver to one of the following versions:
13.0.0.x;13.0.1.x;13.1.0.x;13.1.1.x;13.1.2.x;13.1.3.x;13.2.0.x;13.3.x.x;13.4.x.x;13.5.x.x.
Or install version 10.0.0.X; of Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless WiFi Software.

How do you download drivers to one computer to be install on another? These are network drivers for a computer that cannot connect to the network to get the updates in the normal fashion.

Hello. I recently got the XPS 15 with 512mSATA SSD
For the first month everything just worked fine (even if sleep-wakeup on this machine is kinda longer than shutdown-bootup, but i cannot complain).
Now, in the last weeks, whenever the laptop enters sleep mode (closing lid, suspend button, or timed according to power profile...) it appears to be totally dead.
I mean: pressing the power button doesn't do anything (neither light-up), despite them being short presses or 20-seconds press. (It seems to keep power share on, and the battery indicators on the side turns on if connected to the power adapter).
Eventually, after a random amount of time and power button pressing (sometimes 3 sometimes 30) the laptop just start to boot up from bios to windows and no kind of warnings pops up.
Looking at the event log I can see different entries when this happens:
Kernel-Power 41
EventLog 6008
and some Kernel-PnP 219 of course
Bios and drivers are up to date, ran full diagnostic no-problem. OS is stock DELL Win 8.1 64bit (with Intel SCT, rapid storage and all that jazz installed, updated and running).
Any advice?

I have a dell studio 1458, and the warranty expired. The laptop was overheating too much recently, so I searched on the internet and one possible solution was to replace the thermal compound. I am on the process of doing it. However, I realized that the heatsink was also in contact with 5 other parts of the motherboard. Five of them via a green color pad of about 2mm thickness and 1 via a gray color pad of about 0.5mm thickness. My questions are:
Are the green pads thermal pads (they seem more for cushion) ? If not, what are the green pads? I must know because one was damaged and I need to replace it too.
Is the gray pad a thermal pad? Can I use thermal compound instead of the gray pad?
Is there a specific thickness of the pads for the studio 1458?

I have a Vostro 1700 and after an hour or two it occasionally lock up.
I wondered if it was over-heating ! My question is when should the fan run?
Is it temperature related and if so what's the best way to test it's functional?

The touchpad on my Studio 1749 is erratic - it zooms in and out or scrolls when all I am doing is moving the cursor around the screen. I have updated drivers recently and run Dell Detect. Open to suggestions as it is frustrating!

I'm a photographer, and bought an XPS 15 9630 to do my photo editing. The machine came with the 30Gb mSATA and 1Tb HDD, which wasn't nearly enough for my needs. I've successfully fitted a Samsung 1Tb mSATA, but I would like to upgrade the other drive also. At the moment I have 2 1Tb hard disks, and 2Tb total storage. (After a fair bit of fiddling in BIOS)
I have a Seagate Spinpoint M9T 2Tb disk which I would like to use,but when I fit it, it didn't show up in the BIOS or O/S. It works fine in other laptops. The disk that came with the laptop is 6mm, this one is 9mm, but seems to fit fine. The disk shows up if I remove the mSATA.
Is this a problem that can be overcome? What am I doing wrong?

The partitioning on the disk is as GPT. On hdd are 5 partitions: 
I want ask if is possible to simply resize partition c:\ and from free space create new partition D:\
I fear i destroy recovery with this action.
Or is robust and recovery wil not be affected?
