Studio install of Windows 8.1 does not show bluetooth, but it works

I have a Studio 1558 laptop, originally with Windows 7 which I upgraded to Windows 8.1 Pro.  I have just installed a larger HD (1TB) to replace the 500GB which I thought might have been on its way out as it occasionally started clicking.  I have also taken the opportunity for a clean install of Windows 8.1 Pro.  But the Device Manager does not show any Bluetooth devices even though the Bluetooth mouse works!  However I cannot find any links in Devices & Printers to allow me to change the mouse wheel action or the Synaptics touch pad action.  

Going back to the 500GB HD gives me all this functionality so the hardware is all ok.  The BIOS settings still have Bluetooth enabled.  I have updated Windows updates, and used Slimdrivers to update all the drivers.

Where do I go from here?

(It may just be a coincidence but I used Windows 8.1 Pro disk as used on my desktop and am waiting for another Windows 8.1 Pro disk with another product key as the one used on my desktop cannot be used twice.)

I have been given Dell inspiron 15 as a scholarship From a Firm..On start up it shows Firm logo instead of Dell logo..even when operating system is loading it shows the same logo.I have updated BIOS..More over installed a fresh copy of Windows 8.1.... But still see the same logo...I want Default Dell logo and default windows logo.What should I do...2) If i set Boot option to UEFI (without Legacy Enabled).. It gives error that there is no disk ..

I am going to put windows 8.1 32bit on my laptop but there are no drivers for windows 8 32 bit only for 64 bit

MY INSPIRON N5110 LAPTOP STARTED SHUTTING DOWN FOR NO GOOD REASON. HAVE TO POWER IT BACK UP, SIGN BACK ON AND THEN IT TAKES YOU RIGHT BACK TO WHERE YOU WERE, BUT THEN IT WILL KEEP SHUTTING DOWN. DID A DIAGNOSTIC AND IT DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING. TOOK IT TO THE GEEK SQUAD AND THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING HARDWARE RELATED AND THE PROBLEM DIDN'T OCCUR WHILE THEY HAD IT. Hi, I;ve got Dell Vostro laptop with the following problem. It gets too hot CPU is Core 2 Duo T5670 and testing with UBCD it gets me 67 degrees. I think this is too hot. I'm going to open it and clean it. WIndows 7 doesn't boot. It stucks at boot screen and doesn't show me the logo of Windows. I tested HDD with short test and didn't give any errors.

Hi,

I am non techie. My dell inspiron has suddenly got very very slow. It takes an age to do anything. At first I thought it was a virus but McAfee found nothing. Found info on the computer and did an F12 diagnostic during startup. came up with 'hard drive 0 -S/N S2W8HM 74 self test unsuccessful. status 7. Tried the dell diagnostics on their web site, Downloaded the quick diagnostic programme and it ran but after 2 hours nothing much happened and then I saw the blue screen of death and the laptop restarted.

I have managed to download all my photos onto a stick so not a lot there now that would be lost.

Can anyone help?

I had to install a new hard drive onto Dell Inspiron 17R (5720, Mid 2012). Ordered new hard drive from Dell, and also Operating System reinstall DVD. Windows was loading, but computer shut down and did not restart. I pressed the power button to restart, but now get 'BOOT MGR is missing' error, and don't know what to do next. I chose 'Custom Installation' and selected the only hard drive that was visible when prompted. Computer will not restart with DVD or without DVD. What now? Windows 7-

Hi guys!

The touchpad on my Inspiron 11 3000 2 in 1 is driving me crazy.  I think it's working as intended, but the fact that the area over the buttons is also part of the touchpad means that I'm constantly moving the cursor right before I click on something...  It there any way to disable the touchpad area over the buttons?

(Running Windows 8.1, let me know if there's any other info that would help)

Hi there,

I am using an XPS 12 and  few weeks ago my laptop was acting weird, and when I restarted it, the apps were no longer opening. I've tried a few things such as using command prompt but to no avail.
But one suggestion, fixing screen resolution, I wasn't able to do. When i search screen resolution and try to open it this message comes up: "This app does not support the contract specified or is not installed"

So clearly some sort of file has been deleted? I'm not quite sure. Any help would be great!

Hi, I own a Dell studio 1555. When I first encountered the auto shut down problem, I ran the diagnostics and found my HDD is crashed. So I replaced with a new 1TB WD. My RAM is of 3GB. After couple of days, this problem started again.  Majorly, I see this problem when I am trying to use internet in some browser.

One of the service center person told that it could be a CPU fan problem. He replaced it, but still the problem persists. Warranty period is expired for my laptop.

Request you to suggest me with some solutions.

The web cam will show up at times in the device manager but only under show hidden devices. I have gone through the delete the cam and usb hub from devices, load every update, tried every trouble shooter. and reloaded the operating system.

Before it get sent away for repair I thought I would see if anyone here had an idea?

Hello Users,

I bought this inspiron 15r 5521. Its approx 2 year old. There was warning in battery status in the PC checkup.

Few days afterwards the laptop did not start up. I searched and did a hard reset .It worked the 1st time. BUT when i shut it down or hibernate . again its like dead and i have to plug in the power cord for 20 min and do a hard reset to turn it on . It also happens that if i shut down while the power cord is plugged nd i take it out and again plug it , it stops charging..(again need a hard reset).

Help me plss....

hi, first post  so be kind :). how do I restore  windows 7 to my laptop when the option for dell data safe restore is not one of the options when I try to repair it ? I have never had this problem before. Only just pressed F8 , repair computer but the last option is not coming up. I have the discs that came with it and when I tried it with these discs in the same result. Please help

Hi all,

We have a Dell Inspiron 1525. It has been having overheating problems for a while, so tonight I opened it up, removed the heatsink, cleaned out the clogged up fan and cleaned/replaced the thermal paste on the CPU. While taking off the heatsink, the thermal pad that was on the GPU tore. I didn't have another pad handy, so I used (non-conductive) thermal paste on that as well. Also, while I had the heatsink out, I inspected the CPU and found that one of the corner pins was actually bent outward (yes, it came from the factory that way!), so I (very carefully) straightened it before reseating the CPU.

Now, when I try to start the computer the screen stays completely blank (no Dell logo, no command lines, nothing), the HD and disc drives spin, and after a few seconds the entire system dies...

I've researched here and elsewhere for similar problems, and have tried some of the suggested solutions (unplug power, hold pwr button 30 sec, plug in power, and boot; remove/swap the memory) but so far nothing has worked.

What could the problem be? Could switching from a thermal pad to thermal paste on the GPU cause this? Or straightening the bent CPU pin? Could it have been intentionally bent to work properly? I've certainly never heard of such a thing...

Any advice that might help would be greatly appreciated!

I have a Inspiron 15R SE (7520). Its a awesome laptop in terms of speed and ergonomic design but somehow i heat ups like hell. 
Initially i tried to ignoreid but then i realized even running just a browser and any media would amount the fan to start running at higher than usual speeds. 
Now the moment the laptop is on the fan is on, which according to me should not happen but i was told by service center and on-site "it is like this only, the fan would run"
I haven't found any evidence for this assumption .

the issue hasnt been resolved for previous 2 months although my heat sync assemb;y has been replaced thrice and motherboard twice, since heat sync is not a major part replacement i am not even being offered a system replacement as per the policy which says "if the issue is still there after thrice the parts have been replaced then the user is offered a system replacement.

I have stopped getting any call backs from the support team and my mail responses are being left unanswered.

Any tips/suggestions/idea what could/should be done?

My Inspiron used to hold a charge and last for about 7 hours.  Now, at full charge it only lasts an hour or so.  Is this normal?  Will a replacement battery get me back to the original battery life time?

I just bought a 6 cell battery for my lattitude e6400. The seller said that they are reseller of Dell. The part has warranty for 90 days. After I checked the appearance with pictures that I searched from the internet now I wonder that my battery is real or fake because the battery doesn't have battery indicator like my previous 9 cell battery. The serial number is KR-0ND8CG-71769-4BB-A2KC-A00. Please help!

I recently purchased a new Inspiron 15 (5547, Early 2014), Windows 7.  Within a few days, the speed of operation dropped to glacial speeds.  It would take 10-15 minutes to open programs.

I ran the Dell diagnostics, and found no hardware problems.

I've run virus and malware scans and this has not fixed the problem.  I intended to then restore the system to an earlier install point, but every time I do I get a windows error "System restore did no complete successfully.  Your computer's system files and settings were not changed".  The text of the message indicates I shoud disable my anti-virus software, but when I disable it (MacAfee, live scan and firewall), I get the same message.  I get the same message even if I restore from safe mode, with MacAfee disable.

How can I fix the problem above--The real issue is the incredible slow operation--If I can resolve this without a system restore, that would be great.
