What can I do about my FPS Drops/ GPU Throttling on Dell XPS 15 9530 'Haswell' Late 2013?

So I recently bought a Dell XPS 15 9530 and well I wanted to see how it would do in gaming. It was doing well in most games until one day, I started getting fps drops that lasted a long time. The FPS would go from whatever it started with, an example being Watch Dogs with 50 fps on low settings, to 9 fps. Another example is CS:GO where I get 60 fps on highest settings, I cap it at 60, but after a few rounds it goes down to 15 fps. So I got NVIDIA Inspector to see what was wrong as many had said it was the GPU throttling and the clocks were 135 MHz for the GPU Clock and 405 MHz for the Memory Clock instead of the default 941 MHz for GPU and 2500 MHz for Memory. The temperature was around 75 degrees celsius at most so I don't think that is the problem. It is plugged into wall while playing and I have most programs closed down when playing.

Also, I have my power plan set to 'High Performance'. The FPS drop does not last forever but lasts about 10-15 minutes and can either be resolved by restarting my laptop or, if I am lucky, restarting the game. It is quite annoying and I have been testing everything for about 2 weeks. I have tried re-installing BIOS, clean installation of drivers, used different programs like ThrottleStop, tried lowering the settings and none of these have worked.

My hard drive crashed and needs to be replaced & I have orders a new one from dell. Once it is replaced I will need the Dell backup and recovery info. Will I have to download the back and recovery from Dell to another computer to make a thumb drive or can it be downloaded to the computer with the new hard drive. 

touchpad hot key not working

I recently had my hard drive replaced and windows 7 reinstalled on my laptop.  My touchpad hot key is not working now.  It did before.  I have Inspiron N5010.  Any ideas?

Because of a virus, I recently had to reinstall Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. I have gotten everything else working except the fingerprint reader.

I have installed the Validity Fingerprint Reader driver from the Dell Support site. The fingerprint reader shows up in the Device Manager. However, the Biometric Devices applet doesn't appear in the Control Panel.


I tried letting Windows update detect the fingerprint reader. It installed a driver for a Synaptics device. This was enough to get the Biometric Devices applet to appear in the Control Panel. However, when I tried to configure the fingerprint reader, I got an error saying no fingerprint management software was installed. I have seen lots of posts online directing me to validityinc.com for drivers or the DigitalPersona software, but Validity Inc. seems to have gone out of business. The DigitalPersona software is available on the Dell Support site for my service tag.


I have even tried installing the Windows 8 Validity Sensor Driver for my laptop, but though it successfully installs, it produces the same results.

I don't know what else to do. Any ideas?

Thanks for looking at this post, I hope someone out there can advise me!

I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 bought in 2007. Its doing well for its age but is rather slow despite regular defrags, hoovering, etc. To speed it up when browsing the web and using Office my partner has recommended that I upgrade the hard drive to a SSD. This will buy me some time whilst I am saving up for a new mid-range laptop.

My specs are below, along with the details of two possible SSD on Amazon that may work.

Please can someone can give advice on if these are the correct choices and if if anyone has had experience of this? Thank you! [^]

My hard drive:

160GB, SATA 1 (5400rpm),

My processor:

AMD Turion (tm) 64x2 Mobile technology TL-60

with 2 GB RAM,

running Windows 7, 32 bit

2 possible SSDs that may work:

1) Intel:

Intel ® SSDSC2CT180A4K5 SSD 335

180 GB Internal 2.5" SATA MLC 9.5mm 14.6 x 4.6 x 11.4 cm

2) Samsung

Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5 inch Basic SATA Solid State Drive

10 x 0.7 x 7 cm

Please let me know if there is anything else I should consider???

not able to connect to my 5.2GHz, I have no problem connecting to the 2.4GHz it is windows 8.1 and Qualcomm Atheros Qcwb335 card. My windows 7 has no broblem connecting to both

Hi,

 

Can anyone help me, as I need to contact customer services regarding my daughter's Dell PC.  It is three years old and out of warranty  it is still in perfect condition otherwise as my 12 year old daughter has only used it for light use and it was working perfectly until the other day.  Then it just wouldn't turn on and started beeping seven times.  I have noted from this website and many others that there was a generic fault with the processor inspiron M5030 so I was surprised that there has been no type of recall on the laptop.

 

My daughter is understandably upset as I cannot afford to buy a new laptop and when I bought the Dell I thought it was a good product and expected it to last considerably longer than it has.  According to trading standards I am within my rights to go back to the manufacturer within in six years of purchase if the product  should be expected to have a longer lifespan and is known to have a fault.  However, I can't seem to send an email from this site.  Can anyone provide me with an email address I can contact directly?

Google Chrome doesn't react to touchpad, only to touchscreen

Hello! I got Dell Inspiron 17 7000 Series touchscreen laptop, and it has one issue that makes me worry a bit.

When I use Google Chrome browser, everything's okay from the start but sometimes it just stops responding to my mouse clicks and responds only to taps on touchscreen. Sometimes cursor dissapears when I try to move it from touchpad in Chrome. It appears when its positioned in lower Windows menu but dissapears as moved onto browser screen. Sometimes it doesn't dissapear and I can move it, just can't click anything. Maybe there would be a point to reinstall Chrome? Umm..

It never happens for my DJing programs or other stuff. Oh and one more. For example, in some games and DJing program where I need to move equalizers and so, when using touchscreen I can't swipe, pull things, the whole window swipes away. Is it because of Windows 8 possibility to swipe in apps from left corner or just a glitch? An exact example is Candy Crush (oh,dont be too harsh on me for playing such silly stuff) :D but I can't swipe candies with touchscreen, I can just tap on one and then tap on next one to make them change places. Though it wasn't like that 2 days ago,I was able to swipe those dumb candies. Have I pushed some button or something? P.S. I got Classic Shell program that converts all the menus pretty much to Windows 7 look, maybe the problem is connected with that..?

Got my pc very recently and I care for it to be in the very best conditions so could I please get some help with this problem?

I did not get any cd/dvd when I bought my laptop.

Laptop: Inspiron 15r

OS: Windows 7 Home Basic (64-Bit)

Note: I used to do it every 4-5 months when I had my desktop and windows xp cd.

E6520 Wireless Card Compatiblility

Hi,

I have a E6250 and am having issues with the 1501 Broadcom card. Many documented issues with this DW 1501 card, and in Windows 8, it also constantly needs to be disabled/re-enabled or the troubleshooter run to reconnect to the network. I am way done with this card, and have been researching the alternatives. I want something better and something that willwork with this laptop and Windows 8.

Can someone provide a list of compatible WLAN cards that will work with my E6520? Please?

Another question.... when I took off the back cover to identify the card I have, I only remember seeing 2 antenna cables. Reason I say this is that I am looking at the Intel® Centrino® Ultimate-N 6300, but I see three antenna hookups. If I select this card, will it work, and will it need another antenna cable?

N5110 not ready for DVD-to-HDD replacement?

I have N5110 with 640Gb hdd. Warranty is over, so I've bought SSD drive, replaced stock HDD with new SSD and bought an adapter to install old HDD instead of DVD drive.

It's working, but...

1) I can't install second OS on second HDD. After 1st setup stage Windows setup reboots and can't boot - it can't find loader. I must notice that both HDDs are perfectly fine. Same happens also when trying to boot from vhd drive. So I guess this is just a BIOS issue.

2) I can't choose HDD installed instead of DVD as boot device

3) Not related to second HDD issue, but I can't also pick my SD card as a boot device. BIOS just doesn't support that.

Dear Dell, is there any way to fix that? Can you please update BIOS?

Latitude E6400 keyboard problem: Keys do not work, trackpoint does

Has anyone else experienced this problem? I cannot type but I can use the keyboard trackpoint and trackpoint keys. I have tried changing the keyboard, but the same problem persisted. The drivers were good and I can attach keyboard via USB for full functionality. Could it be a problem with the palm rest where the keyboard attaches to or something else?

Inspiron N5010 crashes on startup

I have a Dell Inspiron N5010 laptop running Windows7, and it automatically powers off when I login to my computer.

I tried to run Diagnostics but it will not complete as laptop crashes within 30 seconds or so of logging in. As it crashes there is an audible click.

This happens both when the laptop is on AC Power and Battery, and in safe mode or starting normally.

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

Battery not detected status

Hey,

I have purchased the laptop 3 months ago and suddenly from yesterday I am getting no battery detected notification on the battery status icon. My battery is charging and dischaging also but still the notification is shown there.  I cannot see the status of how much power is left or if the battery is fully charged or not.

I am using Inspiron 15 3000 Series i5 Laptop.  After sometime the battery status comes back. So its like going and coming back type problem. Can anyone guide me of what should be done to eliminate this problem?

I have an Inspiron 14 7000, 1080p, windows 8.1, touch screen,  laptop, was working great until one day it boots up but the screen remains black.  All types of maneuvers tried but the screen remains black.  Finally, got a HDMI & connect it to my TV.  The laptop boots up fine & I can see everything works great, even the touch screen movements work normally, on the TV monitor.  So I deduce that the hard drive, mother board, & touch screen are all fine.  It's just the laptop is not feeding the video to the touch screen.  Out of warranty.  Can any one tell me what part controls the video feed to the touch screen & is it difficult or expensive to replace?

My laptop turns on as usual when plugged in and the battery gets charged as well. However it will not turn on when not plugged in, despite battery showing 80% earlier

Dell is harassing people regarding services and I am from India and my case id is 905341977. it is still not been resolved by dell service department they are just cutting my call and transferring my call here and there and not giving me satisfactory resolution and they are giving me date per date about the call from them. It has been three months and my laptop issue is still not be resolved and I am asking for solution than they are just moving my phone to technical to replacement to consumer care department so at last my case is handling consumer department manager name is Sridhar and representative pratheepan , both are not replying my call and they are wasting my time . I have written my case id above so please any dell person receive or showing this, note my case and help me about this. All of this situation has been done with me and they are proving that don't buy any product from DELL.

I hope do best for me from dell.
