My mom has a Dell Studio 1735 and when she tried to turn it on she says it maade a weird noise. I checked it and it doesn't power on at all. I cheked the power supply and it seems ok. The battery is fully charged.

When trying to turn it on the power button flashes quickly 3 times a long pause and sometimes it flashes a once very long and other times it flashes 10 short bursts.

No other light comes on. I've removed the battery and tried turning it on, but the same.

My bluetooth doesn't work. Windows 8.1. No icon in system tray.

Dell online diagnostics says it is unable to find the bluetooth hardware. I've downloaded and installed the recommended drivers (no errors reported). How do I enable bluetooth?

Inspiron 5423 does not power on; Embedded Controller Problem?

Hi,

My Dell Inspiron 5423 laptop does not power on normally; when I press the power button, nothing happens (no lights, no sound). As a result, I have to press the Embedded Controller reset button at the bottom of my laptop for the power button to work. How can I fix this problem as I don't want to have to undergo this procedure every time I turn on my laptop. Any constructive diagnosis would be greatly appreciated.

@Dell,

Please take a look at these bugs reports:

It happens on Linux regardless of the Ubuntu version installed and there is a strong hint that its a bios/firmware/ec bug:

happens with the trackpoint and touchpad

[View:bugs.launchpad.net/.../1258837:550:0]

[View:bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi]

There is also a thread on the LKML mailing list regarding this issue:

[View:lkml.org/.../85:550:0]

[View:www.spinics.net/.../msg33751.html:550:0]

So there is a series of patch for this that got merged in kernel 3.18 but its only a work around and doesn't fix the root issue (you'll still get resyncs).

It is a very frustrating issue as it causes random cursor movement and random mouse clicks and might cause data lost (closing an application by itself).
(READ the comments on the Launchpad bug report above ^).

You *really* need to explain to us Linux users *IF* you are testing your notebooks that can be purchased with Ubuntu on them and are certified Ubuntu compatible how serious issues like this and the keyboard repetition issue/stuck keys exist/persist for so long without releasing any fix.

Right now with the keyboard repetition issue and the random mouse clicks/movement/resyncs my notebook  is barely usable!

Inspiron 1464 Motherboard

Hi, I'm new to the blogs and a semi-novice with computers so expert advice would be greatly appreciated.  The problem:  1464 purchased in China stopped powering up.  I determined motherboard was defective.  The MB type is DA0UM3MB8E0 REV E REV A00 PWB 5X2FJ  CN-QPRP72

I found a similar MB with same numbers except CN-0953PN.  I installed it and the computer powered up, but I had to completely reinstall the Win7 Home Premium OS.  A couple of problems were immediately apparent.  The computer is extremely slow and the battery will not charge above 0%, even though it shows batt is charging on icon.

Question:  I checked the BIOS and only time/date and some advanced settings are changeable.  The hardware profile is fixed, however.  I do not know what the BIOS in the dead MB showed for installed hardware.  Anyway to determine if BIOS settings are ok, or a way to flash it so it matches my computer?

Question:  I checked the terminal voltages for batt on MB with a digital multimeter and the voltage on the 4 end terminals was around 3 VDC, which seems way too low for an 11V battery.  Any specifications on what the voltages should be and how to determine if battery needs replacement.  The computer was purchased in 2010 and I don't want to put too much money in it.

Thanks for any help!

Doug

Where can I look at previous BIOS update fixes?

So, I've been having a problem with my Inspiron 3520 laptop where the wi-fi connection drops occasionally. One of the solutions I've found on support forum posts was to update the BIOS.

The problem is I have read that BIOS updates are risky and should only be done if it "addresses a specific problem you are having".

The update description for the current BIOS version doesn't mention any wi-fi fixes. Is there any way to look at all of the previous updates to see if there were any fixes for the wi-fi?

Dell studio XPS 1647, graphics card breakdown.

Hello!

I've been having this PC for quite a while, it's been working fine since 2010 and warranty ended at 2013, so it was all ok in that time, but since then problems started ASAP. So this particular Laptop has gone thought lot of things, car crash, not perfectly safe work conditions and stuff. Running a checkups shows no difference, but AMD/ATI video card has a reason to mess up everything. I've tried every driver, condition and stuff to fix it, but in the end it keeps on doing stuff you see in video - over and over again.

www.youtube.com/watch

So there's my video of how I deal with it and what happens, I'm really unhappy about this, but since I have my other Laptop Dell XPS 15 in warranty service (it's mother board just burned out month after I got it). Struggle is real. maybe you have any comments about fixing it in any other way. Thanks!

Dell Studio 1558 and display issues

I have a Dell Studio 1558 that came with Windows 7 factory installed. I upgraded for free to Windows 8 back when it came out directly from Windows, then to 8.1 (I believe this was two steps but perhaps it was only a 1-step upgrade).  This was at least a couple years ago.  About two weeks ago now my screen flickered and I got the "AMD display driver stopped responding but has recovered" message, but it never DID recover and eventually the computer shut down. Since then, I've only been able to use my computer for at most 10 minutes before the screen gets the blurry "fuzz" and eventually the screen is unreadable then black. Now the screen won't come on at all (computer comes on, all tests have been run and passed).  I've had two Dell people tell me I have to reinstall Windows 7 since Dell never allowed the Studio 1558 to be upgraded to Windows 8 so it was MY FAULT for not checking with Dell first (do I have to check with Dell before I install every program on my computer???). Of course a reinstall of WIndows 7 will wipe out everything I have on my hard drive.  Any other solution? It appears it is just missing the right driver. Why wouldn't Dell make their computer upgradable or provide the right driver?  1) can I get the right display driver?  2) can I put my hard disk into another computer (which one?) so I can still use all the programs (which can't be backed up) on my fully functioning hard drive and all the data that is on it? 3) Is there ANY other solution besides just wiping out my hard drive that will still allow me to use all my data and programs?

Dell Inspiron 3537- lid

When I close the lid is not linked back after driving up. It does not do anything, the power button must be stopped and restarted. It used to work, and when I drank bowed to the cover, and it asked for the password each continued where I left off. Another problem is that when I want to turn off (start menu / stop), does not turn off completely.

Having difficulty installing Itunes

Precision M4400 Mobile W/S--What determines if Lid is Closed?

0

My Precision M4400 recently had some parts replaced, including the keyboard, touchpad assembly, and the bottom portion of the system, including a new latch assembly.

After getting the system back, I've found that the system no longer enters Sleep mode when I shut the lid, even though it is configured to do so, whether on battery or AC, in Windows 7.  (Windows 7 Pro SP1, 64-Bit.)  The sleep mode worked perfectly before I took it in.  (I can still use the <Fn>+<F1> to put the system to sleep manually, then hit the Power button to wake it up.  No hardware changes were done--just fixed some cosmetic items (peeling speaker paint, worn trackpad mouse button, busted <F5> key), exchanging original parts with new Dell replacements.

With all of the preceding in mind, then, even though everything else worked in Windows with no Device Manager changes or whatnot, I'm guessing that my problem is hardware-related.  So I'm curious:

How does a first-generation Dell E-Series laptop determine whether the lid is closed or open while undocked?  Is there a magnet switch?  Some other type of switch?  Is there a connection which may have been missed when the system was reassembled?  What information could I give the tech. when I take this system back in to assist them in their diagnosis?  Again, I can use the Sleep hotkey--I just can't close the lid and accomplish the same thing, despite the Windows settings.  (And the BIOS doesn't look to have anything addressing lid behavior either--the CMOS battery was also changed, but all the BIOS settings appear to be as I had them set when the system went in for the repairs.

I have been up and down the Internet Googling for this answer, and haven't found anything, so all help is appreciated.

Dell XPS l502x Screen problem

the last year I've had problems with my laptop screen. It flickers now and then and sometimes it stays black for a longer time. When I run graphics tests my nvidia driver also fails and crashes.

Now it has windows 10 preview installed(but also had the same problem with windows 7) it's the version with the Nvidia 740M GPU. All the latest drivers and BIOS are installed. Also notice that I don't have any flickering when working on an external screen via HDMI (haven't tested displayport).

when the screens stays black for a longer period of time the left pixel row shows red dots (no idea what this is). but usally when I hit my laptop close to the escape key the screen is back normal(that's close to where the screen connector is on the main board). I already took my laptop apart and refitted the connection but it didn't improve.

I think it isn't necessarily related to heat as it can happen in the dell logo screen when the laptop is booting (and was shut down for a couple of hours).

one last remark: I also cleaned the cooler but when I boot my laptop and do nothing (it is just idle on the login screen) it already warms the laptop quite well. could it be that the heatsink is broken or is this near to impossible?

Does anyone have an Idea what could cause this, or are there more tests that I could do?

Thanks, Tijs

XPS M1530 changing screen resolution by itself

I have an XPS M1530. A couple of months ago my screen started randomly changing resolution by itself. It seems to do it more when I open/change web browsers, go to desktop screen or try to print. It seems everything is updated. The resolution is supposed to be 1440x900 but will switch to 800x600 which makes it difficult to get to the NVIDIA control panel to change it back. Can anyone help????

My operating system is: Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit

Hi, can anyone help me?

recently I bought Dell Inspiron 5000 (5748) with Windows 8.1
CPU Frequency is low from 0.76 - 0.78 GHz and when I start to load more programs(video render, 3d, CPU stress test) computer slow down and load is no higher than 40%, CPU remain the same(0.76).

Tried to change profile in power control, enable hidden menu for power control of CPU, in BIOS disable function for frequency adjustment - all is useless.

How to force CPU to work on all his power when is need?

Thanks a lot

Hi,

I purchased an KINGSTONE SSDnow v300 120GB(SV300S37A) and I fixed them to my VOSTRO 1540 laptop instead of HDD drive(Hitachi).
I install Windows 7 Pro, everything sounds great but after windows reboot BIOS doesn't see my KINGSTONE SSD drive! (SSD is no longer detected in BIOS every time I reboot the computer from Windows)
But when I turn off laptop, and power on again, everything is working fine! Windows is starting, everything works as it should.
The problem occurs only when I reboot laptop from Windows. When I power off Windows and power on laptop everything works fine.

any ideas...?

please help

Dell Inspiron M5030's and the 7 beeps of death...

I am assisting a friend who runs a STEM program by looking at her broken Dell laptops.  It appears that this series of laptop has a known issue and I was wondering if Dell has done anything to resolve the issue for it's customers.  This STEM program originally had 10 Dell laptops and they are now down to 6 of them.  If this is what we can expect from Dell for a product we will have to look to another manufacturer when moving forward with this program.
