I have a Dell N4010. How do I disable the touchpad? The touchpad is not listed under the mouse in the Control Panel. I recently restored my computer am I missing a download? The hot key doesn't work either. Thank you!

Can't turn on System Restore
I have a Dell N4010 and recently had to do a manual restore with the original CD's. Something keeps turning off my System date. Now I am getting an error when trying to turn it back on. It says an unexpected error in the property page: The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax in incorrect (0x8007007B) Please close the perty page and try again. Is this a virus?

Windows7 sound problems M1530
Like lots of people I have struck the problem of no sound when I upgraded to Windows 7. I found the answer below on a forum to use the VISTA driver which I did OK and the sound works but it is real fuzzy. I tried both the OS32 and OS64 options but both the same.

Go Control Panel then Devices manager.
Click on the Sound, video and game controllers option then right click on
the tab that opens below and select the current driver and then select
uninstall.
Go to Dell drivers and downloads page and find your system type and operating system.(In this case it
should be Windows Vista OS either 32 or 64 bit depending on your system since
there is no option for Windows 7.)
Select audio and then select Sigmatel -Driver. This should take you to a download page and then
download this driver (preferably in Explorer). Then install this driver by following the procedures then immediately reboot when prompted.

hello all, appologies for the grammar and lack of capitals etcc, my phone doesnt seem to like dell forums.... i bought an alienware mx seventeen r three a year ago, the thirtieth of april twenty twelve to be exact. a few days prior to my one year warranty expiring i recieved an email reminding me to extend my warranty. i was keen to do so due to having been helpeed by the technicians before and being a loyal dell customer. unfortunatley, the next day my mother unexecteldy passed which understandably and still is throwing things up in the air in regards to me and family. on to of this i also lost my job working in a pharmacy due to them not allowing me time off for this situatuin. even though i already was struggling withdebts to pay, helping my grandparents debts so they have somewhere to live, living on my own and paying for funureal arrangements. itbs been a hell of a few weeks. of course, extending my warranty wasnt on the forefront of my mind as youbd expect. so expect my reaction when turning on my lapto to hear the fans come on, the alien head and keyboard for a few seconds then turn off. no beeing or flashing leds. this was on the first startup after updating to bios a twelve as reccomended to me by dell. i have always taken excellent ccare of my laptop often referring to it as princess somewhat embarrisingly in front of friends. i have tried a hard reset to no avail. i was wondering if dell were flexible on warranty in such situations at all, and if not on the best course of action? i do hope dell can bring a bit of good news, if you dont laugh youbd cry! thanks

Beep code
My Dell Vostro emits 3 series of 5 beeps before starting up as normal. If the clock shows the correct time does this mean the CMOS clock is OK and that replacing it will not fix the problem?

5 beeps on startup with Dell Inspiron, battery has been replaced
Hi,
Please can someone help. I have a Dell Inspiron 15R N5110 laptop which beeps 5 times on startup, sometimes this stops when you login to Windows, sometimes the 5 beeps continues very quietly after logging into Windows.
As suggested in the post below I have replaced the coin cell battery to no avail.

The problem seemed to start after connecting a flat screen TV to the laptop via a HDMI cable.
All system tests return successful.

Dell Longevity Mode
I enable it, and it says that, you can use this mode to protect your battery from frequent charge and discharge cycles. Battery will only charge between 88% and 100%. (whit desktop mode disable)
So what i understand from this is that, if i charge my laptop to 70%, and i want to change the room where i work. I unplug the computer and when i put it back, let`s say at 67%.. the battery should not charge anymore, until I discharge it to 7%. I am right?
BUT the problem is that it`s not working, i unplug it at 75%, and if i plug it back... will contiune to charge, even if that logevity mode is enable. (and the desktop mode is disable). Why?
Is there anyone who is using this and it's working? Can somebody tell me what`s wrong?

will a SSD help me get > 2hrs of battery life on Inspiron 15R SE 7520?
I want the rapid boot times an SSD will give me over the current 750GB HD. But I only get 2 hrs of battery life now, and I'm wondering if people have also seen extended battery life?
I've got a 1080p FullHD screen, which might add to the battery drain. Otherwise, I'm just doing simple web programming.
Also, I think I can easily get by with a 120GB SSD (only using 60GB now) Is there a performance/weight/battrery life difference between choosing a 2.5" SSD vs an mSATA SSD and removing the HD all together?

Dell laptop fan is not working. error code 2000-0511 validation 1202
i got a laptop Dell inspiron N4050 13 months before. and it is very good in use. 7 months after its purchasing the laptop give some unusual sounds and in a weak i diagnose that fan was not working. i try to search solution on google but nothing i found. so i claim the warranty. and dell service center in my location give me the good response and correct my problem.i take proper care use the laptop on table or any woody surface rarely on lap.
but yesterday i feel that laptop fan stops working. because it was fine yesterday morning and in night suddenly it stops working.
i Run the hardware test by using the F12 menu on dell logo screen and check for error codes i found this on when testing reaches the fan processor.
error code: 2000-0511
validation: 1202
fan is not responding well.
please help me. my warranty is over and now i cannot claim the warranty. i am ready to pay money. but i need proper guidance.
please note that ever since i got the laptop windows 7 was installed on it.
but in last month i install windows 8.did it happen by using windows 8?

I have a Dell inspiron 1525. Today I was watching some movie on it, than I wanted to restart it, because of some updates, then it went: No bootable devices press F1 bla bla. I took the HDD out, and put it back. Than did some internal fixing. When I hit the F2 I can see the hdd in the list, but can do nothing else. please help me!

Bluetooth is not working
Hello friends!
I have Dell Vostro 1550 Laptop.
Os- window 7 ,32 bit
Earlier I had window 7,64 bit on my laptop ,when I install 32 bit window on it after a clean format,Everything work perfectly except the bluetooth.
I tried several bluetooth drivers but none of them fix my problem.I received an error while installing the bluetooth driver that the" system has been modified can't install the driver".when I tried another driver then it says please activate bluetooth first ,when I did so by pressing the function keys then a message appears on the screen saying "starting bluetooth" after few minutes the msg disappears and nothing happens,it doesn't start the bluetooth.I am very confused what is the problem.Kindly help me.

Dell Inspiron 15R Special Edition (7520) i7 Running Slow
I brought what I thought should be a relatively fast Dell Inspiron 15R SE (7520) i7 laptop 3 months ago but I am disappointed by both the start-up and webpage opening speeds. The system came with 8GB Ram and I thought that being an i7 the general speed should be quite fast. In the Windows Performance Information and Tools the Base Score is only giving a 5.9 out of 10 which I think is bad for this specification. Does anyone know how to increase the Base Score, what improvements could be made to my laptop. I have read in this forum where someone has actually increased the ram to 16GB without it causing any problems to the system and the laptop actually recognises it as having 16GB. Anybody else upgraded their ram on the Inspiron 15R SE (7520) successfully. Is there anyway of knowing if the Intel Turbo Boost is actually working. The only additional software that I have on my system, apart from what came with it, is MS Office 365 and Norton 360 which replaced the McAfee security software. Oh, plus I've upgrade to Windows 8 Pro from Windows 8.

Dell xps14z intermittent red screen issue
Hello,
Laptop is 9 month old and still on warranty, its never been dropped, or damaged. When its booting the Windows loading screen sometimes goes red, and when Windows loads there are red lines all over the screen. Then 5 minutes later its all good again and then it happens again. I took some pictures but it looks like a hardware issue. Like I said there is no damage to the laptop,

Inspiron N5040
Hi there,
As of yesterday, my Inspiron N5050 screen went static white. It happened suddenly as I picked it up and the whole screen did this. At first glance, I thought that it was a glitch, so I restarted it. It stayed the same, i then ran my system mechanic and cleaned it up, again nothing happened. After Googling the issue, the most common thing that came up was the video cable becoming lose after opening and closing the laptop repeatedly over time. Could this be the source of my problem? How can I fix it? I appreciate any help or advice given!

Suddenly shuts down when playing games

I've had this computer for about a year-Dell sent it as a replacement after they broke my previous laptop. Recently-about a month-it's been randomly shutting down. I can play XCOM-enemy unknown but not farmville. BioShock Infinite but not Roller-Coaster tycoon 3.
The computer only seems to shut down when playing older or internet games. I do have a external fan and it seems to keep my laptop cool to the touch. I did try to run Dell PC Diagnostics but half way through the tests, there was a crash!
After the crash, my computer restarts just fine and asks if I want safe or regular mode. I've tried running scans on safe mode but have yet to find a virus or any other such cause.
I've reinstalled my video card and other drivers multiple times.

Bios password reset
I entered an admin password in bios which I can't remember now. It is an xps14 ultrabook, still under warranty. Please help to remove that password.
