I just bought a vizio 24 inch smart tv and hooked it up to my Inspiron 17 to watch movies via hdmi cable. My tv wouldn't display what my laptop was showing even though the computer detected the tv as a monitor.
I called vizio tech support and they told me that my computer has to have standard resolutions 1080, 720, etc, for the tv to display what's on the computer.
I checked my computer screen resolution choices and none of them were standard. What can I do to use my tv as a monitor?
I'm not able to start my laptop properly so I tried to resolve this problem as following:
1. Restart my laptop,pressing F12 and selected Diagnostics.I got following message on screen:
Error code: 0142
Msg: Error code 2000-0142
Msg: Hard Drive 0 - self test unsuccessful.
What does this mean?
Sometimes system stuck on Windows logo appear at just start up.
Sometimes system become standalone after login and I cannot do anything.Even I cannot move cursor.
Sometimes after login a blue screen appear showing message of memory dump.
I just want to make sure that Hard drive is not crashed because When I run system in Safe mode I can see all drives.
Does this means Hard drive is OK?

this morning, I faced crash once and return then it crashed again and again and again..
so I entered safe mode and checked device manager and found The error about code 31 from Consumer IR device so I deleted it without any searching....
after all, I am re-installing all my stuff 3 times and strolling to find that driver....

Is there any compatible external monitor (21 inch or more) that I can use with my laptop such that monitor will be able to display at FULL HD or better resolution?

I have a 17R with the stock 6gb of RAM but I really want to upgrade to get better performance for gaming and making videos ETC. (I do youtube for fun) I would really love to be able to put in Corsair Vengeance DDR3's. Though I really think that they are too big for a laptop :( any suggestions?

I have an old Inspiron 6400 with Win XP, 80 GB, 2 GB RAM, Intel Core TM2 CPU,
I want to install Win 7 Home Premium and use the laptop simply as a standby in case my newer Inspiron 17R 5720 is out of action. Is it possible to upgrade?
I don't care if the performance is sluggish - it's just a standby. It would only be used for emails and internet if my newer Inspiron is down.
I used the Service Tag for the 6400 to look at the available drivers. For my Service Tag, the only drivers seem to be for XP or Vista.
I would be grateful for any advice.
I've got an Alienware 17-R5 laptop which i bought with ssd 60gb. Everything was fine until a couple of days ago when just like that it got disabled. When i power on the laptop on the screen where it shows some info about your ssd and your hard drive it says RAID VOLUMES:

And then it shows the physical devices. When the laptop loads all the programs, i open the intel rapid storage technology application, on the Status tab it says "Current status: your system is functioning normally, but further down where performance is, it says "The accelerated disk or volume associated with the cache device is inaccessible, and the overall performance is no longer optimized. Please reconnect the accelerated disk or volume, or click Accelerate for more troubleshooting options"( btw it takes longer for the laptop to power on now). Now when you go to the performance tab it says Intel smart response technology: "The accelerated disk or volume associated with the cache device is inaccessible, and the overall performance is no longer optimized. Please power off your computer, and then reconnect the accelerated disk or volume. If the device cannot be reconnected, disassociate the cache by removing the logical connection with the missing accelerated disk or volume".
Under this Acceleration Configuration:
Accelerated device:Inaccessible
Acceleration mode: Enhanced
SSD Configuration: SSD on port 5: Normal
Usage: Cache device
and the serial number
And then says the volume,status,type,usage and size of the sata array. So what do i have to do to enable again the ssd and gain the performance of the laptop back up.

To our surprise and delight we see that the E7x40 laptops are able to boot our NTFS formatted image deployment pendrives even in UEFI/Secure Boot mode - this seems contrary to the UEFI specs FAT32 requirement, and it definitely does not work on our E6x30s. Does anyone have a complete list of what models (and required firmware levels, if any) are capable of this particular trick? It's a great convenience not having to split up our WIM file to adhere to the <4GB limitation of FAT32.

For a Dell LATITUDE E6400(mid 2008?) with a BIOS of "A14" (5/11/2009), is jumping up to "A34" to much of a jump to make all at once?
I would rather not make a jump "up" and have the BIOS not work for whatever reason; so I am asking ahead of time.
I am primarily asking because the Service Tag for this particular laptop is not in the 'My Account' > 'My Products" database and so I am not 100% certain of the unit's provenance. Like with the individual device Drivers, I have seen instance of version "A08" not working for a Network card but version "A07" works fine.

I have to replace both hard drives on my Dell XPS 17 702X (ran diagostics and confirmed it as both hard drives are now bad). My question is.... do I make a restore point and then replace master hard drive first? Will this allow me to keep Windows on my computer and use the restore point and then go and replace 2nd hard drive? I would think I shouldn't replace both at the same time otherwise there wouldn't be any way to do a recovery. I already have the replacement hard drives but just want to make sure I do this is the correct order to get my machine back up and running.

I own a XPS 15 L501X laptop and noticed a few months ago that there are inconsistencies with the monitor light colour.
This happens when I plug it or unplug it from the circuit. For example, the light is cooler if I'm on the battery. However, if I'm on the circuit, it becomes warmer.
This is very annoying because I use this laptop for photo and video retouching, so I never know what my work truly looks like. I also use a Spyder4Elite to calibrate my monitor. I calibrated it twice; once on the battery and once on the circuit, but the problem is still there.
Is there a way to set the monitor light to the same colour?

I've just changed the hard drive from original to an SSD (cloned image) and changed nothing else.I've put it back together but when I press the Power button, nothing happens at all.
The battery shows fully charged, but there seems to be no power going to the system itself. When I plug in the power adapter, the light comes on for 1s then shuts off (I suspect that's just because the battery is charged) Is there a power reset somewhere if the battery has been out for a few days?
