At one point the Power Icon read: "49 min. left on batt. charge. battery not charging." but the power adaptor was plugged in.

Is my touch screen scratched?

Hello,

I have a DELL Inspiron 15z 5523, it has been 7 months now.

I like this laptop very much because it doesn't get so hot and it is so fast except that day that let me down when it wont turn on and I managed to get it working again after RESETTING the system by using a pin to press the little button beside the RAMs.

Now how do I know if my screen is scratched?

I clean it after two days or so.

I now got a side job where I draw people's faces and bodies and they give me money in return.

I use transparent papers and put it over the screen and use a pencil very gently to clone the face.

But so far I can't see or I don't think I see any scratch caused by the pencil.

Can the pencil scratch the screen? if it does when it can scratch it?

Or it wont scratch it because I use it very gently moreover I use it over the transparent paper?

Thanks in advance.

2.5" Hard Drive (instead of mSATA) in Latitude E7440

Anyone using a 2.5" hard drive in a Latitude E7440? The laptop comes with a mSATA hard drive but a 2.5" hard drive will fit in the space provided (if you take out the mSATA tray). Problem is, there's no way to screw the hard drive in, and there's no specific way to dissipate heat that the regular-sized hard drive might generate. BUT - the hard drive is not going to move in this tight case, and SSDs don't generate much heat. I'd certainly like to take advantage of the higher drive capacities available in the 2.5 inch form factor without having to deal with the bug-filled 840 EVO Pro which i believe is the only 1TB mSATA available. Any comments?

Can't see how to boot from USB (made in Factory Backup)

I made a USB back up using the Dell Backup and Recovery/Factory backup. I can't seem to get my laptop to boot up from a USB, though. I've looked at all the options I see via F2 and F12. But I see no mention of USB as something it could boot from.

My machine is an Inspiron 15 7000 series.

How to turn on integrated webcam

I have just received my new Inspiron 5748 and I cannot find ANY helpful information on how to turn the webcam on. There is no option on the start menu for the webcam, and I've checked the device manager, and indeed, the webcam is there and working properly, according to the Properties. Ran a diagnostic in the Dell Support area, and the cam came on when the diagnostic ran, so I know it's there and working. So how do I turn the darned thing on? I've scoured these forums and seen that several people have had the same problem, but nobody seems to have any solutions. All I want is to turn the webcam on![:'(]

USB 3.0 in a Dell N4110 not working!

So... I have read a lot about issues with dell laptops xps and inspirons with USB 3.0 ports. My laptop has 2 USB 2.0 and 2 USB 3.0 ports. The one in the back that's a 3.0 only works with my mouse receiver, I've tried two different Hard drives 2.0 and 3.0 and they light up but won't show up, I even tried with a pendrive it shows up but can access it and shows that the drive has less storage. The other USB 3.0 works fine with all devices.

I have updated the Renesas Drivers and BIOS but still doesn't work. Do you guys think this can be USB 3.0 and Bluetooth/wifi interference? Any solutions? Please Help :)

Power adapter dying or normal?

I have an M17x R4 for over 2 years now and havent had any power related issues so far.

But lately my power adapter box has been creating a very faint ticking sound at equal intervals, and the ticks increase the more load the laptop is under (ex gaming).

So far i've tried different power sockets and tried it when it was unplugged from the laptop but the ticking is still there.

Now, i'm not sure if this ticking existed before as i've never noticed it, for all i know it could've always been like that, but i looked it up on the internet and people say that when power adapters do clicks/ticks it usually means it is dying.

So what should i do here? The thing is out of warranty, and i dont want to spend so much money on a new power unit if it's unnecessary.

Advice??, opinions??

How to backup Dell's partitions (PBR Image and WINRETOOLS) using Linux?

Hi everyone,

I own a Dell Inspiron 17R 7720 and recently my HDD crashed and I can't access the Windows 8 PRO partition anymore, so I bought a SSD to reinstall it.

The problem is that my Windows is OEM and I need to backup the PBR Image and WINRETOOLS using only Linux (I can't access Windows) but I don't know how and I'm afraid to miss anything and lost my Windows Key or the diagnostics tools provided by Dell.

Can anyone guide me through a secure backup?

Thanks for any help!

Dell XPS 12 Battery Problem

Hi,

I've just picked up a second hand Dell XPS 12 9Q33 and am enjoying it greatly, but I'm having a problem with the battery. Whilst using the laptop it seems to last alright, yet when I switch the laptop off the battery continues to drain (not plugged in to charge over night and battery drains by 30%). I am wondering if I need to replace the battery or if there is perhaps some setting preventing it from shutting off completely?

Many thanks,

Elliot

Studio XPS 1640 laptop...

A couple of years ago, my Dell Studio XPS 1640 laptop stopped working.  It didn't turn on.  This was about a week after my warranty expired.  Anyway, I have another laptop, so I put the 1640 away.  Recently I decided to fix it in order to give to my son.  I was advised to replace the motherboard, which I did, but it still doesn't turn on.  The battery charges, but there is absolutely no sign of power going to the computer.  Before I take the darn thing apart again to look for loose connections, does anyone have any advice.  I originally ordered this laptop with some spendy upgrades, so I just don't want to give up on it just yet nor take it in to a computer repair place.  Any suggestions?  Thanks!

HI to all,

I need some help, I have a problem on my Dell laptop Inspiron N4050, all USB ports suddenly stopped working, I tried to trouble my laptop to fix the problem but it didn't help me.

I upgraded the version of my BIOS, the chipset, and downloaded the latest version of the driver but still not working, I even tried to re-format my laptop but the problem is still the same.

my laptop is already out of warrant.

can somebody help me on this problem, I have a doubt that that problem is the hardware itself, hoping it is not. .

thanks.

3147 and External CDROM timing out

0
0

Hi: I have an external USB CDROM drive from Liteon (euau108 5L) and am pairing it up with an Inspiron 3147 laptop.

I"m using Windows 8.1 and am observing an interesting problem:

The CDROM consistently times out when I use the USB port located on the right side of the laptop.  During installation of programs, it stops and it appears that the there is no CD in the drive.  I go into windows event viewer and see the Event ID 51.  I go to File explorer and see the CDROM drive, but no CD contents listed until I double click on the drive letter to refresh it.

I move the external CDROM to the other USB 2.0 port and it works fine.  Also the USB 3.0 port as well.
So I think it's safe to say that the installation media is good, and the CDROM drive is fine.  The USB port seem to work with other peripherals without issues so far.

A recap of what I've done:

  • I disabled power management to all USB ports as well.
  • I updated the firmware of the CDROM drive
  • I updated the BIOS of the Inspiron 3147
  • Reloaded the Dell drivers of the chipset and USB.

Suggestions??

#XPS13Problems: No Sound, Hiss, Fast Access

0

Friends,

Got an XPS 13 (with Dell S2740L monitor and USB 3.0 dock for monitor) a few weeks ago; it has the potential to be an awesome machine, but within a few days:

The sound went out:
It began with a red X, then constant prompts that I had unplugged headphones (which I had not).  Had the usual discussion with the folks in Hyderabad (and they're nice and good), but all the driver swaps, etc. did nothing.  Two different tech folks have visited our web development offices here.  Both times it was "fixed" only to, within 48 hours, give no sound with the dreaded red X.  They've replaced the speakers twice and the daughter board once.

Even with no sound, I have a constant hiss:
I can't get sound, but I have a transistor radio style hiss and crackle constantly from the speakers.

Fast Access keeps coming back after deletion:
The bloatware Fast Access keeps coming back to my computer after I delete it (and "all components") out of the Control Panel.

Am I doing something wrong with this?  Is it the 3.0 dock?  The monitor?  Is it Dell updates?  Windows updates?  32-bit drivers instead of 64-bit?  Unfathomable that Dell missed the mark this badly.

Best,
Todd

Dell Inspiron 7547 touchpad issues

As other posters have posted before, me the 'smart-pad' on the 7547 is erratic and overly sensitive! Windows tells me I am up to date on my drivers and I cannot find any drivers available for the touchpad on the dell support page. More importantly, there are no options available to change the sensitivity or multi-touch gestures which is ridiculous because my five year old laptop has these options!

In device manager there is an "HID compliant house" with a driver from 2006. Is there going to be a driver update soon?

Driver and other updates.

Hello.

I have a laptop Dell Ispirion 3721 (l37545DDL-13). A lot of drivers on support center created at 2013 years. Have a Dell's staff some plans about update drivers and apps for this model?
