Has anyone else come up with the Proxy Server Issue?
I can get on the internet through explorer but can no longer access my home page.
I also cannot go to sites like aol.com, google, Dell etc.
I can access on line gaming to some extent but nothing else.
And just my luck, my Dell Warranty just expired!
Any suggestions? The error message reads:
The Proxy Server is not responding
I purchased a refurbished Dell latitude E6400 with a CD/DVD ROM drive. Why can't I create a Repair Disc using a Flash Drive? When starting the create repair disc it says it can't find a CD/DVD burner but it does not give me the option of a USB Flash Drive.

So I've been having some issues and crashes and whatnot.
I have a Dell N5010 Inspiron
I got it from costco around 2010.
It went through a phase last year where certain videos would freeze the system. (mp4? I can't remember). Well I installed some things to keep it from crashing but some of them still wouldn't play.
Lately the system has been BSODing ever since I tried installing and playing Neverwinter Nights 2. (a game known for instability) altho i have no idea if it's related. The BSOD is about the display driver timing out or something like that. I would have to cycle safe mode a few times and let the computer sit before the PC would boot normally again.
The laptop has ALWAYS run hot. It has a good graphics card in it, and it already being a laptop, heat is bad. after a year I think I had to aim an extrenal fan at the side and top otherwise it would overheat and shut off when I played graphics games.
I don't know if any of this is related.
I have been looking at the drivers. everytime I told it to check for updates on my video driver it would say it was updated. The video driver it had was Radeon HD 4650. I assume that's what was in the system. I vaguely remember them saying when delivevered that they didn't have the exact driver advertised and put a similar one in it. I can't remember the details of that.
Anyway....for the first time....I disabled the video driver (Radeon 4650)
and THEN I told it to check for updates again.
Immediately it started installing a new one. When it was finished I had a ATI Mobility Radeon 550v
driver. This sounds familiar. LIke either that was the original one that was supposed to be in it or that's what they replaced it with. But I didn't tell the system anything, it just went out and did this.
Is that right? Is it wrong? Is that really what I have? Do you think this might fix my vid problems?

I have the above laptop and was thinking of upgrading to a WD Black² Hybrid SSD drive. I am not sure if the drive will fit the bay, the WD2 dive is 9.5mm I am wondering if it will fit. I believe the current factory installed hard drive is 7mm
This laptop keeps getting slower and slower and I've tried everything and it's not making a difference. Seems to progressively get slower the hotter it gets. I have run virus scans (all fine), malware scans (fine), de-fragmented it, cleaned up the disc, I have deleted unused/unwanted programs, I have cleared history options and stopped background programs from running. Nothing is helping. I have checked the amount of memory/space and there's still plenty, I have run a temperature scan (Speccy) and that was within normal. Not only does it slow down where it takes forever to get from one window to the another, it will not open some things at all. Like, now I can't use IE - I get an error message. When I came onto the Dell site, there was an option/link to diagnose your computer and that also gave an error message. I went to order something only a few weeks ago and that's when IE first gave me a problem - it wouldn't get me to the sign on screen. I downloaded Firefox and that allowed me to sign on but not check out. The rep at the company had me download Google Chrome and that finally let me process the order. I don't know what's going on. I thought maybe there was something wrong with the fan, maybe the computer is getting too hot, but from what I've read online the computer will stop working altogether, not just move slower. I'm at my wits end. If it's not due to lack of memory space, nor a virus or malware, what the heck is this things problem? I had also contacted my internet service provider and they had me run a test and the download speed was fine so they said it's my computer. HELP!
My Dell Inspiron 15 5547 laptop has both a touchscreen and a touchpad. I almost exclusively use the pad. However, sometimes it simply stops working and I have to use the touchscreen only or restart the computer to get the functionality of the pad back. Any suggestions?

I currently have my Dell Power Manager set to charge from 30% to 80%
My question is that, when my battery is higher than 80% (85% for example), it shows that the laptop is plugged in, not charging. And the battery levels remain at 85% indefinitely.
Does that meant he power is going straight into my system? And it is the equivalent of "taking the battery out"?
I ask, because we can't actually remove the battery from our new laptops, and I'd just like to confirm what I think is happening

My laptop initially had 2X2GB DDR3 RAM. One of the sticks have gone bad and the laptop is running on just 2 GB RAM. It's a Studio 1558 laptop. I now want to purchase a new RAM but not sure if any DDR3 RAM would be compatible with it. I ran a crucial.com scan it suggested some RAMs. Could someone please help me with this?

M15X working fine with 3GB RAM. Changing to 16GB results in 3 beeps and the LED code says a problem with the video card (GTX460M) is blocking the POST test. Laptop stops with the LEDs flashing and nothing else, no screen image. Replacng the 3GB sees it all work well. Does anyone have any suggestions why the video card would react badly to a massive expansion in RAM please? Laptop is running Widows 7 Home Premium with Q740 processor.
Not a problem as such, just wondering if any Dell moderator has any idea if/when the inspiration 11 3000 2-in-1 will be released in the Uk? It has been out in the US and Australia for a while now. A UK dell blog/press release mentioned sept/oct of this year 2014, but nothing as of yet. If it is not out soon I will either have to import it from the US or go with the Lenovo yoga 2 11.

I've been fiddling with this machine for about 3 months now and like many of these posts have been most frustrated by the trackpad. Other than reinstalling the trackpad driver, here are some problems and fixes I've tried.
Problem: Suddenly seems to swipe to other programs
Fix: The trackpad seems to have a hard time differentiating between the different swipe movements. I fixed this by going into control panel (trackpad) and turning off most of the extra motions. Now, I don't have to deal with suddenly switching between programs when I don't want to.
Problem: Suddenly finding one of the many swipable menus open which interrupts the current window I'm working on. As you know, there are several menus you can pull open, on the right side, left side, top, or bottom.
Fix: Same fix as above. I occasionally still end up swiping open the left "Start Menu" but I turned off most of the swipe commands so this reduced the number of possible interruptions.
One problem I haven't been able to find a solution to is getting the left click button to actually select what I want it to. I work in Word a lot, grading papers. I'll have to try 3-4 times to select the exact word, phrase, or sentence I want. What happens is without changing the pressure I'm putting on the left click button to highlight the text I want, the mouse will suddenly end highlighting, reselect and move text without my changing the pressure on the button. This is very frustrating.
The last problem I haven't been able to fix is that if you tap the trackpad to select, you have to tap right in the middle of the pad or it won't register. If you're slightly toward the outside of the pad, it doesn't seem to register the pressure. It seems like the pad is worn out, but it's brand new. I might end up just replacing the track pad.
I have a 3 week old Inspiron laptop, which I use for work, and personal. During the course of a day at work, my pc will freeze or become unresponsive whatever you want to call it. This has more to do with the software I use for work than it does the computer. Everyone that uses this software has the freeze up issue. The difference between my new Inspirion and the 10 y/o Acer that it replaced is that on the acer when it would freeze up, I could ctrl-alt-del and immediately it would pull up the screen with the option to start task manager, lock pc, reboot, and the rest of that list. The Inspirion however does not do that, using the ctrl-shift-esc, also does nothing at all. I have tried several different things I have found online when searching for an answer, and the only thing I have found that will work is to just press and hold the power button until it shuts down.
With my Acer, once I pulled up the option screen, I could just click cancel, and immediately return to exactly where I left off minus the unresponsive part. With the Dell, I have the normal startup time, plus logging into the company's intranet, (I work from home), and then logging into about 10 other programs. For a total of about 15 minutes, instead of no more than 20 seconds total with the Acer.
I am not too worried about tracking down the cause of the freezes, because as I said everyone that uses these systems and programs has the freezing problems, it just poor planning/coding on the part of those responsible for putting together the programs we use. I just need to know how to recover immediately without rebooting the way I did with my old machine.
I will take any and all suggestions offered, and I will be grateful for any help I can get.

Pg Up button just stopped functioning on my Inspiron laptop. Diagnostics show no errors. Happens with all applications. Any ideas???
I have an InspIron Laptop computer that needed a new video card. I brought it to Staples and they sent it out to another facility. I got it back today. It is missing the Microsoft Office programs that were installed on the computer when I purchased it from Dell a couple of years ago. I called Staples and they said that I need to get the license number (I think that was what it was called) so that it can be reinstalled. I have spent about 5 hours trying to contact Dell and Microsoft without any success. I would like to speak to a live person who can get this resolved. I am so frustrated. Please advise!
First time posting in the Dell forums, and have not found much information from browsing the internet regarding the topic. For the Dell Latitude e6440, there is optional upgrade at the highest tier for the inclusion of an ExpressCard slot. This was included on my school's previous model Latitude e6430s as a standard, but not on the recent e6440. From my web searches, I understand that the parts required for the assembly are the express card cage, the daughter board attachment (and screws), and the side panel for the WLAN switch and EC slot (with insert). However, Dell does not provide these components on their parts upgrade site, nor does any other third-party retailers. Any recommendations on how to obtain the upgrade parts, if at all possible?
I connect my laptop to router at home via wifi. But I got limited access or no internet connections messages quite often. Usually after diagnosing it will reconnect and works fine. However it won't work fine for long.

And the model of my laptop is Precision M4700. I bought this just last year, haven't really used it for a full year. Also, other devices on the home wifi including two laptops made by other manufacturers are fine with the connection.
I have tried turning the modem on and off but did not help. The house is running on a Xfinity service. This problem suddenly happened sometime in November and did not recover since then.
