Inspiron 5748 no power LED

$

0

Dear All,

I just unboxed my new Dell Inspiron 5748 (17 inches, core i7 etc. etc.).

I noticed a strange thing: there is no evidence that the notebook is powered up, apart of LCD screen lit.

When the screen goes off, you don't know if laptop is on or off.

There is a led in the left edge of the front, but it lights up (after a BIOS update to A05, it was always dark with A04 BIOS) only when the power supply is connected.

When powering up the laptop with battery, the led lights up, but after one second it starts to dim until it is completely dark.

It is annoying, especially with Windows 8.1 that, when powering off the laptop, shuts off the screen several seconds before the laptop is really powered off.

I had a long phone call with technical support, but it seems that this behaviour is by design.

I also miss a HDD activity led, that could be a sign of the computer activity, in the lack of power led.

Anyone noticed something similar with these laptop models?

I am considering a Latitude E7440 with an Intel i7-4600U CPU. Will it be able to drive two monitors with 2560x1440 resolution, e.g. Dell UltraSharp LED Monitor U2713H?

What gives the DELL Latitude D620 its weight?

$

Just bought meself a secondhand Latitude D620 Laptop and i love it, ideal size , fast enough for what I want to do . Its a bit on the heavy side. if i wanted to make it lighter I am willing to have it in bits (have to anyway soon anyway to make sure theres no dust/fluff accumulated on the fan and heatsink and vents) but is there any kind of metal parts in the chassis I can remove to make the laptop a little bit lighter? -

also the lid of the Laptop feels like metal to me (cold to the touch) but when I tap it sounds like plastic! - so is the lid made of metal or plastic can someone tell me? - if its metal maybe that explains where it gets its weight from. Thanks.

dell inspiron 3521 keypad not working

hey my dell inspiron 3521 keypad is not working i have updated all the software and system update is on.

i haven't installed any software, third party application or anything else like that which interferes with my keypad functioning.

i tried to update the drivers for the keyboard from device manager but it showed that the driver is already up to date.

i also checked the ribbon that connected to the keypad with the system hardware and there is no problem in the connection there also.

hi, i'm new to the dell forum ......i'd like to ask a few questions

$

i looked all over the net and couldn't really find anything on these subjects that was concise and informative, so i came across this page, and here i am. been using dell for years (great product) and most of my equipment is dell. now, here are the questions i need answered:

1)

my d810 video display is gakked and the keyboard is too, but i want to run an external monitor with it which would suit my purposes, but i can't get into the bios to switch it ..... is there a bios editing tool that i can download that can flash an edited bios to the 810?

2)

my d830 keyboard gakked out ........ since the power buttons are on the keyboard (unlike the d810, which has a separate sisterboard) i cant get it to boot..... so i need to know if there is a way to power up without the keyboard ( i could also hack the ribbon cable if I knew the pin outs for the power)

3) i like the pd01x because it allows me to use the specialty audio cards i have using an older magma expansion chassis...... up to 13 pci cards can be used.... the newer laptops use the EC cardbus (the thing i dont like about cardbus ( and this always happens eventually) is  the dongles or  connectors get broken one way or the other sooner or later, but more like sooner than later ...... so id like to know which of the newer or newest dell laptop series is compatible with the pd01x or, is there a new laptop that can dock to a new full height docking station?

that's it for questions for now, but being of an inquisitive nature, i'll be sure to ask more

thanks

How to stop beeping sound of Dell Inspiron N5010???

I have Dell Inspiron N5010 for quite some time and yesterday LCD's just gone all of a sudden. I get 8 beeps again and again which seems to show LCD failure. I connected it to an external  LCD and it works. the problem is that I am on the biz trip right now and this beeping sound really annoys me (until I solve this problem by replacing LCD or buying a new lap top). does someone tell me how to kill this beeping sound temporarily?

Inspiron 1764 change motherboard

Hello, i would like to know if it's possible to interchange my inspiron 1764 motherboard to another 1464, 1564 or 1764 model. I have the one that has the mobility ati radeon hd4330 and i would like to change it to the one that has a mobility ati radeon hd5450 for a graphic upgrade or even the one that has the intel integrated because my cpu has a graphics integrated gpu (i5-520m) and with a memory upgrade it would be better than the hd4330. Any suggestions? And does anybody knows the models d/n ? Thanks in advance

Dell Venue 8 Pro won't charge - no light

The white charging light won't come on. It's definitely a bad contact issue. Occasionally I get lucky and have the cable at exactly the right position and it will start charging but it's getting progressively worse. Now it's at the point where it just won't charge at all. I've tried 5 different cables.

Any workarounds? Tinfoil? :)

Corrupted Latitude D620 Touchstrip reader driver file

I acquired a Latitude D630 laptop second hand recently and am trying to install the appropriate drivers. However, the driver, R173506, for the Vista 64 bit version of the UPEK TouchStrip Reader Driver keeps giving me this error when I try to execute it: "Invalid self-extractor configuration. This file may be corrupted". I have tried the XP 32 & 64 bit version and Vista 32 version - same error. I even tried the Latitude D620 UPEK driver - same error. I have tried expanding the file on a different computer. I would really like to use the fingerprint option on the laptop. Can you provide some assistance here? Thank you.

Hello. I've got a new Inspiron 15 (S/N DPDYC12) with Ubuntu, installed Win7 x64 on it, installed the correct drivers from the Dell site, and on launch it brings up the error

When I try to enter mouse options in control panel, I get the error

Unable to connect to synaptics pointing device driver

Tried reinstalling the driver, rebooting, etc. How do I fix it? I can't use multitouch or scroll on the touchpad.

My wifes' laptop will boot up and work most programs except Microsoft Outlook  (get a NOT RESPONDING) note and the cursor just keeps spinning round and round, and also on Internet Explorer, I get the same message (NOT RESPONDING) and that is if I can get Explorer to even open. Both will not shut down until I force a shutdown. I have left it overnight and it will still be NOT RESPONDING and spinning cursor 8-10 hours later. Weird thing is if I start either in SAFEMODE, they both open, run and work fine. My wife is ready to throw it out the Window. So to speak. Ideas?? Please. Only 2 years old.

Dell XPS L702X shutdown and won't powerup

$

I have a Dell XPS L702X that I bought June of 2011.  It has been working fine up to this point.  I ended up replacing the battery but other that that it has been a dependable champ.

Today I upgraded the video drivers.  I fired up World of Warcraft and was checking out the new settings when the laptop just shut down.  I tried the power button but nothing worked.

I unplugged it from the wall, removed the battery and pressed the power button for ten seconds. I put the battery back in, plugged it back into the wall, still no power up.

The wall socket is good, the power supply is good (i get the glowing LED at the end of the power cord) and (as stated) the batter is practically brand new (got it a few months ago)

I'm guessing power supply or motherboard failure.  If this is true how much am I looking at to get it fixed? or am I better off buying a new laptop?

Thanks,

Mike

Lost Wi-fi connection

I bought Dell laptop Inspiron 15 5000 Series at Costco just 2 months ago, windows 8.1, Touchscreen.  It had been working fine.  Today, when I turned it on, it's updating, then I found out the wireless connection for this laptop is gone.  No connection at all.  My other wireless such as tablet, iPod, iPad are working fine with wireless. When trying to connect it directly with internet, it works, but no more wireless.  Please let's me know what can I do to fix this problem.

Thanks,

Nancy

M3800 suddenly stopped charging

I have m3800 laptop about 4 months old. Was ok until today. I connected the charger when battery was at 10% but it shows no charging in windows and it seems battery drains down.

The led light on the charging cable is lit. So i guess the charger is ok..

What could be done?

Problem solved: wi-fi connection reconnected

I'm the one who posted about losing wifi connection of my Dell laptop. I figured out that my problem just started after the critical update automatically, so, I just did the system restore to the point before today.  The only thing I am concerned is since my laptop schedules doing windows update automatically at a certain time regularly, then every time I have to do the system restore?  So, something is wrong with windows update, then why I have to schedule my laptop going through with it, and keep giving me a hard time?

Dell Inspiron N7110 00C08270 Real Time Clock error

$

Hi, whenever I boot up my laptop without the AC adapter plugged in I get a beeping error. 00C08270 Real Time Clock error pops up on the screen before start up. From my research it tells me that it could be the CMOS battery or the motherboard. If it's the CMOS battery I'm willing to replace the battery myself but if it's the motherboard I will probably need to go to the shop for that. What I'm afraid of is the cost. If my problem is the CMOS battery I don't know where to buy the battery replacement myself and if it's the motherboard, is it worth it to pay the cost of replacement and from what I know paying for a new OS too? or should I buy a new laptop instead? Please give advise. Thank you.

Hi there folks. I truly love this 3721......but......I want to speed it up a bit. We're never happy are we?[H]

Specs now: Core i3 - 3227U. Ram is @ 4gigs. 64 bit W7 Home Premium. 500gig HDD.

I think maybe 8 gigs of Ram and a 512 gig Solid State Drive. How much RAM can this handle?

Thoughts???

P.S. Will a mini 1018 handle Win7 Home Premium with 2 gigs of Ram and a SSD?

I am planning to replace the motherboard and daughterboards of my vostro 3550 laptop.

I would like to know what is the latest/best production part number of motherboard for the vostro 3550.

Ive seen MDFKV, 0MDFKV, 0Y0RGW, Y0RGW

However I do not know which one is the best one. The current board I have has had many issues especially related to USB, CDROM, and The card reader. So I would like a board with better integrated or at least newer integrated hardware, if you are able to it would help immensely to include part numbers for the various daughterboards for their respective motherboards.

I intend also to get a faster i7 processor. Is the Core i7-3940XM compatible with the vostro motherboards?

My current mainboard model is 0JGC48 revision A09 (i believe the A09 has to do with the bios actually)

I have the i5-2410m, hm67 chipset

Thanks!
