Inspiron 7437 and external ethernet adapter issue

Hi, i bought about 1 month ago an inspiron 7437 notebook (the one with i5 cpu). I bought also an usb3/ethernet usb adapter by dodocool (this one www.dodocool.com/.../dodocool-3-port-usb-3-0-hub-with-1-rj45-gigabit-ethernet-lan-wired-network-adapter.html). The problem with this adapter (or with the usb port) is that sometimes the ethernet goes down. It is like i'm disconnecting the adapter from the usb port. Sometimes the network returns, sometimes not. From about 2 weeks i switched from windows to linux fedora 21, and the issue is still present, but now I can give you some more informations on what's going on. This is the output of the dmesg tool:

[ 2137.778861] r8152 3-1.4:1.0 enp0s20u1u4: renamed from eth0
[ 2138.147925] usb 3-1: USB disconnect, device number 6

any idea on how to solve this problem?

Thanks

Bought 3/14. Used gently on desktop at my biz & babied on 3 biz trips in padded case.  Never abused. 3 weeks ago wouldn't start / wouldn't boot.  Battery fully charged.  Pulled battery per Dell Tech Chat instructions. Can  s-o-m-e-t-i-m-e-s  get machine to boot after battery pull and holding power swithch for 15 seconds and then it works OK.   Still won't restart after shutdown.  Dell sent motherboard & power switch.  Did NOT fix problem.  YOU Try sitting in a meeting and pulling out tools to unscrew back and lever out battery plug to get to your files.  Clients looking at me like I'm an idiot. THAT cost me $$.  Sooooo DOES ANYONE know how to fix this.  Local service tech has no real idea what to do next.  He's running "diagnostics" which Dell tech chat already did.  Is this a BIOS problem and I need to junk a $1000 machine after 6 mos of baby use.  Also the Mouse Touchpad is PATHETIC.  CAN it be replaced?  Already have outboard mouse and THAT makes me look stooopid in meetings.

Can someone help me ?

Thanks.

Why doesn't external monitor doesn't wake up from sleep mode anymore?

Latitude E6410 in docking bay
Windows 7
External Acer 2216w monitor
Connected with DVI cable

After working correctly since 2010, just recently my system started having problems bringing the monitor back on when it went into sleep mode -- whether I put it in sleep manually or let the power options shut it down.

Now, when bringing the computer out of sleep, the monitor light goes from amber to green...but the screen stays black! What I do is turn the monitor on and off. Then put the computer back into sleep and then bring it back and it works.

I've updated to all the latest video drivers using Dell's website.

Anything I can do?

Upgrade Inspiron 3521 wifi from 2.4 to 5ghz possible?

I have an Inspiron 3521 with a DW1704 wifi card that can only do 2.4ghz N. I would like to replace it with a 5ghz card. Is that possible? If so what card can I buy? I see a few available on the Dell website but I'm not sure which one will work in my 3521.

I see a 6300 but that looks like it has 3 wires coming off of it and it appears as though my laptop only has 2 wires available so I'm guessing that won't work.

Then I see a 1530 part #430-4092. That looks like it would work but I want to be sure before I buy it.

Help! My USB keyboard became a USB hub only.

My USB keyboard(DP/N 07VHY1) had been working very well with my laptop Latitude E6540 until I plugged in another USB mouse in the USB hub behind my USB keyboard.  After installing new devices, my USB keyboard became a USB hub only.  The keyboard was gone from my Device manager, and no lights on in the keyboard any more.

I tried different USB slots, uninstalling the USB hub and replugging in the device.  But no matter what I tried, the keyboard was always recognized as a USB hub on my laptop.

I moved the keyboard to another DELL laptop, and confirmed that it worked correctly there.

Any idea?

BTW: I do not plan to reimage my system.

Inspiron 15 3531 - Question about the BIOS - how do a boot from a USB, external cd drive, etc

$

Hi everybody

I just booted into the BIOS of my Inspiron 15 3531 model and I realize that the only boot option it allows me to use is from the hard drive.......that's it. No external usb, no lan option (it doesn't have an ethernet port, so I understand that), nothing.....Why would someone setup a BIOS like this? Its almost as if Dell wants me to just buy a new computer if I have any issues. Am I missing something? If someone could show me how to boot this system from a USB or external cd drive I would be very grateful.

Unresponsive keys on XPS 15 (Late 2013) Keyboard

$

Hi all,

I've had this XPS 15 for a month and in the last two weeks it has developed an odd problem.

Some keys on the keyboard have become unresponsive. It's only certain keys and they tend to be the keys I use for entering foreign language characters: -,`,6,5 and left ctrl are all unresponsive a lot of the time. I have to hold them down or tap a few times before a character is revealed or before it registers that I've pressed the character. Often it feels like this problem is caused by the space bar but sometimes even when the space bar isn't involved I experience the problem.

I have searched all over for a solution and have tried plenty of methods to resolve the problem:

ctrl+fn+left ***
edited the sticky keys section

uninstalled keyboard

checked for viruses and malware (it does 'feel' like it could be a virus as it seems completely erratic when it happens and when it doesn't (often it's absolutely fine)).

start in safe mode and problem still persists.

tried removing international keyboard/replacing language

any advice would be greatly appreciated,

thank you

bluetooth can't find new devices (speakers)

I have an Inspiron 14Z (5423), and it no longer finds a bluetooth speaker to pair to.

It worked in the distant past, but I didn't like the speaker sound quality so I took it back and haven't tried pairing a speaker until this past weekend.

An F12 Advanced Diagnostic test for bluetooth doesn't complete, although it claims it's installed.

A F2 doesn't show bluetooth at all.

The bluetooth settings are configured to let a bluetooth device find the computer, and allow the device to connect to the computer.

I've downloaded drivers for the bluetooth and the chipsets. To no avail.

I had to send my laptop in for repair to replace the motherboard between the time when bluetooth worked and now, and I'm wondering if the repair process didn't get bluetooth reinstalled correctly.

2 different phones pair just fine with the speaker, so it's not the speaker...

Help?

Thanks much!

Cheryl

Randomly after 2 - 5 reboots the hard drive will be detected and you can log in and continue.

Very annoying - anyone have any thoughts before we call dell support?

I have not changed anything in the bios

Thanks,

David

XPS 15

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to get a XPS 15 for a bit of photo editing whilst I'm away from home but I have a choice of two depending on which hard drive. The choices are a  1TB 5400 RPM SATA HDD with 32GB mSATA Or a 512GB Solid State Drive. The SSD drive is £1349 and the HDD is £1149 so a saving of £200.  Am I better of getting the SSD or will it not make much difference. Pardon the question if it's obvious but I'm a bit of a newbie.

Cheers,

Daz

dell inspiron 3521 second ram slot problem

I have the dell inspiron 3521 and I bought 4gb more of ram. I wanted to have 8gb of ram in my laptop. however it seems the second slot isnt usable and the gold contacts stick out with the second slot(the slot that's furthest from the motherboard that was empty). just to make sure the ram actually works I took out the original ram and put in the new ram into the first slot. I am actually running on the new ram, the old ram also will not fit into the second slot. I do not know what to do.

Dell Inspiron N7110 Does Not Start

Model: Dell Inspiron N7110

Problem: It does not turn on. Followed instructions on the Interactive Support Agent page, but nothing happened. Still no beep, no display (screen black).

1. turned on power while holding Fn:  fans turns on, the 3 icons on the upper right corner (quick launch buttons?) turn on in turn for a second, and then off. The power button lit, WiFi buttons is also on.  The CPU icon is not on.  Nothing happened. No beep, no display (the screen is black)

2. connected the laptop to an external monitor. then turned on power while holding Fn: same results. Nothing happened. No beep, no display (the screen is black). Only lights are on are the power and WiFi indicators.

3.Disconnected the external monitor, then pressed power while holding D: the screen flashes different colors (the colors seemed normal) for a moment, then black screen again. Still nothing happened.

What is going on?  A display/screen issue or a more serious problem? Please help!

Inspiron Ultrabook 14z Freeze on Startup - Any Solution??

$

Has anyone solved this problem? My 14z-5423, service tag BGBKPT1, Windows Home Premium sticks at the Dell logo. [F2] and [F12] keys are inoperative. I removed the hard drive and ran a "chkdsk /r" from DOS using another computer and found no hard disk issues, so I assume the hard drive is okay. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

NOTE: this is the Ultrabook model which means the battery and hard drive are embedded in the computer and can't be removed without complete dis-assembly. Also, since [F2] is inoperative, I can't get to the BIOS (which may be the problem?).
