I have now bought two different ear phones for my laptop and neither has worked.  That is, I cannot hear sound through the ear phones and the sound from the laptop is audible.  I have checked my computer settings in control panel in every way I know how and nothing works.  Please help.  Windows 8.1.

Dell Inspiron Has No Repair Your Computer in Advanced Boot Options

0
0

So I have a fairly old (3-4 years) Inspiron (my daughter's) and as we know, kids tend to get viruses.

I'm ready to do a restore to factory default as I have been able to do with both a Toshiba and an Asus laptop I have in my house. I went online to research how to do it with a Dell/Win7 Inspiron. (Hit F8 to get into Advanced Boot Options and there would be a repair option.)

There is no repair option on this computer.

I have no backups and no original windows media and I was hoping to get the computer wiped as if it had just been pulled off of a shelf so I could reset everything.

Why does this Inspiron not have a repair your computer option?

Please help?  My daughter is freaking out that she can't use her computer and it's stressing me out :-/

Dell Inspiron 5521 beeps when powered on, Windows will not boot

0
0

I have a Dell Inspiron 5521 that is about a year and a half old. In the last two weeks, it's begun to make a beeping noise and will not boot up. As far as I can tell, there's no pattern or end to the beeps -- it's just one beep continuously. The longest I've let it beep before I couldn't stand it anymore and popped the battery out was 25 beeps. There are about two and a half seconds in between each beep. Up until very recently, taking the battery out and putting it back in seemed to solve the problem, but that no longer seems to work.

I've researched beep codes but can't seem to find one matching that description. Any help would be much appreciated!

I have and inspiron 5010, has some age to it, just replace the hard drive, and now I get this pop up. Running Windows 7. Went to the Microsoft help forum and tried various things including Installing the Intel Rapid Storage Drivers, all to no avail. They sent me over here.

km632 mouse

I recently purchased (through Amazon) a Dell KM632 wireless mouse to replace the erratic mouse from my KM632 keyboard/mouse combo.  I don't know know how to activate my new mouse.  There is no dongle.  The keyboard is a wired keyboard, the mouse is a wireless mouse.

Does anyone know how to activate a new mouse?

Power Options "Turn off the DISPLAY" versus "Put PC to SLEEP"

0
0

My Dell 11-3147 Power Options are set to "Turn off the Display" after 15 minutes and to "Put the computer to Sleep" after 30 minutes.

Pressing a key on the keyboard or touching the touchpad easily restores the display before the computer goes to sleep.  However, after the computer goes to Sleep, only the Power Button will wake it from sleep.

Is my 11-3147 operating correctly, or does the wake-up process sound like the PC is defective?

Please let me know if your PC can "wake from sleep" using the keyboard/touchpad.

Thank you very much.

I just bought a new Dell Vostro 5470 i5 Service Tag: <Admin Note: removed per privacy policy~RK> | Express Service Code: <Admin Note: removed per privacy policy~RK> with Ubuntu only, I reformatted it and used my Windows 7 64bit OS. I downloaded all the drivers at Dell Product Support Website. Everything worked OK except that on my Device Manager, I am missing one driver, that is for PCI Simple Communications Controller, could anyone please provide me a link where I could download the driver?

Thanks in advance! ^_^

Dell Inspiron N5030 won't can't find bootable hdd

0

Hello all,

My Inspiron N5030 has been playing up recently. I put it to sleep and that was fine. Then when I tried to turn it back on, a black screen. It was on for ages, and then I heard a beep. It said that there was no bootable hdd available and that I should press f1 to retry, f2 to go in the BIOS and f5 to run a diagnostics check. I ran a diagnostics check and it said that there was nothing wrong with it.

I replaced the hard drive last year at around about this time and I only use the laptop in the house. I don't take it anywhere.

I also have Windows 10 Tech Preview installed on the machine with a recent upgrade build to 9780. -Could that have something to do with it?

Any advice is appreciated,

ZN.

Dell Latitude E6440 - Wireless "not installed" 10 minutes after unboxing

Bought two brand new E6440s, same configuration. Did the basic set up for both, both worked. About 5 minutes after configuration, one of them dropped the wireless connection and now reports that there is no physical wireless or bluetooth installed. Tried drivers from Dell and Intel websites, did a full factory restore, still nothing.

Wireless should be the Intel 6235 with N for Wifi and Bluetooth, but nothing...

XPS 13 won't power on

The power button on my XPS 13 has been slowly becoming less and less responsive when the machine is powered off and has now (After ~a year and a half) reached the point where it will no longer power on at all.

What makes this more confusing is that the button seems to work normally whenever the machine is on.

Has anybody else had this issue/have any idea what I could do to fix it? The laptop is out of warranty now...

Dell XPS 14 - Installing SSD (not working)

Hello, I've been trying to configure my laptop to use AHCI configuration from the bios but it's always giving me an error (the laptop does not recognize the SSD), but if I change it to ATA it works perfectly.

The laptop came with a 500Gb hard drive, so I changed it with a SSD (Samsung). I think that the problem is about drivers, the laptop is unable to recognize the correct drivers of the SSD and that's why it crash every time.

Anybody knows how to make it work with AHCI?

The following link includes the same problem with without a solutions, please help!

Dell Power Management application spiking CPU every 10 seconds

0
0

I would like to contribute to this community by providing a solution to a problem I had that took quite a while to solve.

When looking at task manager on my Dell E6440 running Windows 7, I noticed that when the machine is completely idle (or should be completely idle - several minutes after a clean boot and no programs launched), the CPU spikes up to between 10-20% just for 1 second, every 10 seconds!

Even in safe mode this was happening. I could make it stop by disabling the Power service, or disabling the Windows Management Instrumentation service. But - that's just for troubleshooting, as those should both be running.

Finally, I stumbled upon a post about someone uninstalling a bunch of the apps in the Dell bundle that came with Windows 7.  So I uninstalled Dell Power Manager, Dell Backup and Restore, and "dell protected workspace".

I rebooted the machine, and now everything is peaceful!

Those Dell apps were not really causing much performance degradation, but when my machine is idle, I want it to be idle! Besides, what do I need all that stuff for? Windows already has power management. Uninstalling the Dell Power Manager does not hurt the built-in windows stuff for managing power.
