I have just gotten an E7240 computer and have noticed that the USB ports on the back of my computer are disabled when the computer is docked which is a very unfortunate feature of this new computer model. It seems there are many people posting complaints about this feature on the internet. It basically takes a computer that has 3 USB ports and makes two of them rather useless. It is very useful if a USB receiver for keyboard and mouse can be plugged in to the back of the computer so that the mouse can be used easily when docked, but also when the computer is taken off the dock to go to a meeting room. This then leaves the side USB port available for devices such as wireless projectors when in the meeting room. Although this computer was designed to behave this way, I think that most users would agree that this is a critical issue that needs to be seriously considered and fixed by Dell as soon as possible assuming that there is not already a work around available.

Connect Display Problem in Dell Inspiron n5010 Laptop
Hi there,
My Connect Display is not working at all. It all started with a bluescreen that comes whenever I closes my "Extended Display".
The BlueScreen shows - there is some Hardware Problem and you need to disable BIOS memory options such as caching....... But somehow after rebooting, problem gets solved automatically.
But now from yesterday, there is no display in the External Monitor at all and the light in Switch ON Button flickers, it looks as if power cord is not connected properly.
Pls help. What needs to be done? Can it be solved without repairing the motherboard.
And if it is repaired, how much will charged.

Dell Inspiron 1545 won't shut down
Maybe coincidence, but I noticed both problems on the same day.
My battery status (new battery) is "plugged in, not charging" and I am unable to shut down from the Start menu. I click on Shut Down and nothing happens at all. I can only shut down by long-pressing the Power button. Can anyone help?

Dell Datasafe Factory Image Recovery With Windows 7 Will Not Work With USB 3.0

I have a 2 year old Inspiron 17R with Windows 7. When I got the laptop I placed the factory image recovery on a USB flash drive. I never tested to see if I could get into the DataSafe Recovery menu.
Forward to 2 years later and I am setting up a friend's new Dell and it occurred to me that I probably should make sure that my recovery will work if I need it. I come to find out that it will not work because Windows 7 does not have 3.0 drivers so I get an error message that the recovery image can't be found and if I am trying to restore from USB 3.0 that I should connect to a USB 2.0. Problem is that the laptop does not have USB 2.0, all the ports are USB 3.0
I did some research and found a site that said to go into BIOS and change USB Debug Mode from Disable to Enable and that would disable USB 3.0. I tried that but I still get the error message that says "if you are trying to restore your PC from USB 3.0 to connect it to a different USB port. But all of my USB ports are 3.0.
Is there any way around this problem? And now I am not confident in using the DataSafe software as my factory recovery option so is there any way for me to get actual recovery discs from Dell if my laptop is 2 years old and out of warranty?

Laptop keyboard issue.

so i have searched high and low for the answer to my problem but to no avail. im hoping someone here will have the answer
so recently when i started up my laptop, i went to type in my password and no matter which key i pressed it would pop up with incorrect password (as if i pressed enter) it would do this even if i pressed the letter R for instance. i tried a number of things such as restarting to see if it resolved my issue but no. I had to use my on screen touch keyboard, which im using now. i tried searching for an answer but just saying that my keyboard was like a big enter key didn't turn anything up.
anyway, i tried uninstalling the keyboard using the control panel but that didn't work either
i recently worked out that the first key i press is the key that every other one will 'copy' so to speak.
for example, if i press o upon starting up first, every key will become an o. this is why every key was an enter before because that was the first key i pushed. its a confusing issue and its hard to explain. not sure what to do and any help would be appreciared

Inspiron N5050 Blinking LED
I have an Inspiron n5050 that will not boot. When it is turned on, the power LED and HDD LED turn on for a second and the cpu fan starts to spin, then everything shuts off. Tried troubleshooting by removing cdrom, HDD and RAM. With HDD removed, only the power light will come on. When RAM is out, it gives me the two beep code. As soon as RAM is reinstalled, same problem. Tried other memory modules and no change.
Any suggestions as to how to determine the issue?

Dell Inspiron 17, Windows 8.1, wireless mouse stops working and...
I am in UK. I have my Inspiron for a few months already and everything is cool. Recently, I decided to connect a wireless mouse, as I find it much easier to operate. I had a wireless mouse, which I've used for years with my PC (Dell as well) and there was never a problem. The mouse was cheap and purchased from eBay (China), yet NEVER failed me even once. After I've plugged the USB receiver, the driver was instaled and the mouse worked... for 3 days! Then it stopped. The mouse batteries are ok, the mouse itself - full alert but it looks like there is no connection between the mouse and receiver. I disconnected the mouse and plugged it back into my PC and discovered that it doesn't work there anymore either. I thought that maybe it was it's time to go. I bought a new mouse (2.4 GHz Slim Wireless Cordless USB Optical Mouse With USB Dongle) in Argos - the same story. 2 days and stopped. All lights on, new batteries, yet no interaction. The new mouse is useless on other computers as well. I removed drivers (both mice), restarted the comp and installed again. You can hear all required sounds - but no connection. I looked at driver's logs and it mentioned error 0x80070490. I haven't got a clue what's that about. Is it windows 8.1 messing around? Or is it the laptop itself? Dell Customer Services didn't help much, suggesting a purchase of a Dell mouse, which would cost me what I cannot afford. I have tried to plug both mice into both USB ports (2.0 and 3.0) with the same result. PLEASE HELP!!!!! Many thanks in advance.

I don't know why a laptop with a touch screen also comes with a touchpad that renders the computer unusable. It's amazing the number of fixes on the web that don't work. Is there a wire I can cut or a spot I can hit with a hammer to disable the touchpad on my Dell Inspiron?

N5050 won't start and displays colored vertical lines
I just cleaned my laptop with wet wipes and when I turned it on, it wont start anymore it just displays from blackto colored vertical lines going white. Can somebody help me? Is it just wet or will it come back to normal when i just wait?

Dell Inspiron 9400 No Post, Power light comes on for a few seconds then goes off
Hi, I have a Dell inspiron 9400 that had water spilled on it. power light only came on then went off. Removed memory, no beep codes. thought it was possibly motherboard after all the tests in FAQ section. Replaced motherboard, Power light comes on for a few seconds then goes off still no post. thought it might be power button and replaced it, still same thing. Thought it might be motherboard I replaced was bad and replaced it with new one, still same thing. Could this be a bad processor or could the graphics card have something to do with it. Everything I have replaced and check and all I have is power light on and off, no fans, no beeps, no clicks. I'm stumped and would like to figure this problem out. Thank you for your time.

XPS 13 - Disable Keyboard Backlight
How do I disable (and keep disabled) the backlight on my XPS 13? I can use fn+f6 to turn it off, but it ends up turning itself back on when re-logging in or coming back from hibernating, etc.

Hello everyone, I've a question, I bougth a Dell Latitude E6410 with fingerprint sensor, I checked the drivers and I've the drivers for Dell ControlVault w/ fingerprint swipe sensor, and I want to use the fingerprint sensor instead of the pasword to log in in my user of the computer, but I dont know what software I need to do it, can someone tell me what software (Aplication) can I use for that? XPS 15 (L501X) Facing Issues
Hello,
I, Vignesh facing some problems in my XPS 15 (L501X) model.I use windows 8.1 OS. Please help me to resolve it. The problems are
- Webcam is not responding, If I switch on the webcam application it is showing blank black page. If I switch on the Skype, it shows me to close the another application where the webcam is open.
- Half of the time when I try to connect the external storage device in USB, it is not responding, not all the time. But it supplies the power.
Please give me the solution to fix this. I am out of warranty now.

Dell Inspiron 15R SE 7520 does not turn on. Suddenly shut down.
I had already posted a forum post regarding the issue with my laptop.
I would like to send it in for repairs. The problem I am experiencing is as follows: suddenly shut off, does not turn on, the power supply LED light (on the AC adapter) shuts off the moment I plug it into the computer. I'd tried everything, please, do not clarify what is wrong or send me messages about what I should do to fix it.
Again, I want it fixed, warranty has expired a long time ago.
What are my options?
