I got my M3800 in early August and it has the annoying Coil Whining issue once the battery is fully charged and it is used with power. Straight after remarking this behavior, I called DELL support in Germany (Aug, 12) who told me, that this issue was well-known but had not yet been solved. Since that day, I've called them two more times but they kept telling me, that nothing has changed so far (last call was last Monday, Oct, 27th).

Now, I learn from the post by DELL-Justin C, that revised mainboards are available since Sep, 5th:

I purchased Dell Inspiron 3542 Notebook (4th Gen Ci3/ 4GB/ 500GB/ Ubuntu) (354234500iSU1) today.

After opening the package, I tried starting my laptop but nothing is happening on pressing the power button.

Is the unit faulty or am I doing something wrong?

Please help me out.

Purchased an upgrade for my Windows license from 8.1 to 8.1 Pro on Sunday in the US (I had done the update to 8.1 from Win 8.0 months ago without issue).  Since that time, my Inspiron 15R (5537, Mid 2013, non-touch screen) has stopped charging...although the battery icon says 'plugged in, charging'.  I am using the OEM charger and battery initially purchased with the laptop.  Currently in Canada (just in case that makes some crazy software difference...plugs/power is the same I think).

I've taken the following steps:

1. I tried battery diagnostics on Dell site.  Said the battery is fine.

2.  Ran full diagnostics at boot on startup.  Those say in Current/High/Low columns:

Primary Battery Charge: 5% (now actually 4%); Primary Battery Health: 86%; Primary Battery Voltage: 11106 mV/11106mV/11106mv; Primary Battery Current Flow: 0mA/0 mA/ 0 mA; AC adapter:  65 watt adapter/na/na

3.  Checked and rechecked physical connections, took battery in/out and used alternate plugs (although usual light ring glowing around plug to computer and icon says charging, took it out and replugged into computer, wall, and at the brick, tried various plugs at the hotel and at the office).

4.  From Device Manager, uninstalled and reinstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery.

5.  From Power Options, selected alternate power plans and changed plan settings/restored default settings for the plan.

6.  Went to Dell's drivers & downloads.  Downloaded suggested updates to Intel drivers and BIOS.  Installed Intel drivers.

7.  Because power level was under 10%, couldn't install the BIOS update normally.  So I downloaded a program to make a bootable USB drive, made the boot USB, transferred the BIOS update to it, restarted the computer, enabled legacy boot settings to get it to boot to the USB, and flashed the bios out of a DOS prompt with the /forceit command.

8.  Since none of this worked, reran diagnostics (same results, slightly different voltage than the earlier office test, and diagnostic showed the drain when I momentarily pulled the AC cable out of the computer).

9.  Took battery out entirely and restarted computer.  Went back to Device Manager, uninstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and Microsoft AC Adapter, shut down computer, pulled out adapter.  Reinstalled battery, replugged AC adapter, restarted computer and both programs reinstalled.

10.  Downloaded, installed and ran iOlo system check software and followed recommendations for other fixes although it found no issues with battery.

None of this has worked.  I've now got a battery at 4% with the icon still showing 'plugged in, charging'.  I don't have an alternate Dell battery and charger to try in the system (hotel doesn't have one, I may try to run to a local electronics store tonight after work to see if I can borrow one).  While this could be a hardware issue, with the timing (issue arose after upgrade, no issues previously) and the battery passing its diagnostics I'm guessing software...maybe...I have no clue.

Any help or other ideas would be appreciated.

i've just bought an dell vostro 5470, everithing goes ok, it's a super notebook, but after 30 minutes my wi fi connection crashed. i thought that was something wrong with the internet provider , i called and it wasn't. i reconfigured the router, it worked and again it crashed. I alsohave  an assus notebook, and 3 smartphones, they all work just fine if the vostro laptop is shut down. when i turn it on they all loose connection. is there a conflict between dell vostro and the router?

I would know how to upgrade memory my notebook, because I have a notebook inspiron 1564 with 4Gb RAM and I'd change to 8Gb RAM. But searching int internet I' ve found only memories with frenquency 1333Mhz and the memories in the my notebook are 533MHz.

Is there any problem and is it possible upgrade memory ispiron 1564 4Gb to 8Gb?

Just recently my Dell XPS 15z laptop's motherboard fried (or so I was told). Apparently I need to change the motherboard if I am to ever start my laptop again. So I was looking online for the motherboard but soon got very confused on the correct replacement. 

My motherboard part number is : 01XFF3 1XFF3

It had NVDIA GT 525M 2gb and Intel Integrated HD graphics.

I have found that despite motherboards having the correct part number, they are slightly different. And some price differences are just very significant making me wonder whether some of these motherboards are lacking from the original state or not. For example:

This is one specifically mentions the NVDIA GT 525M. Does that mean that the motherboard can come WITHOUT NVIDIA? What about the Intel Graphics? Is it there on this one?

This one says non integrated with N12 P-GE-A1. What does this non integrated here mean? And doesn't N12 P-GE-A1 mean that it has NVIDIA graphics? In that case no integrated as in no Intel integrated HD graphics?

I've become very disappointed with this laptop My 1^st new computer in 14 years.

Twice when playing a DVD it just quit & went to a black screen. The most annoying problem has been the jumping cursor whenmouse typing it takes part of a word about 5 characters then inserts them elsewhere back in the document.

Now for some new tricks, I disconnected the (ookmouse jumped above bold) t(ook) jumped! out connector in usb. then machine went wacky!! I scrolled over Word icon, on way to another icon 10 Word pages opened in a flash!!! Then went to open web 4 browsers opened!!!

Took machine to repair unfortunately it worked fine for him. Now it is doing similar things.

I was working on my stored genealogy & it tried to show 1 open page, I tried going to another page & it showed part on top of the other!!!

THIS THING CAN NOT BE TRUSTED TO WORD PROPERLY!!!!

Dell I am fed up with this computer! It will not type without jumping a section of words backwards into previous typing. I have not been able to pinpoint why. It seems to be related to touch pad not turning off completely in combination with the backspace & or shift keys. The only reason this is coherent is I have taped a thick piece of cardboard over touch pad! This will be a fantastic ad for your incompetent engineering when I use my laptop in public areas such as the library while doing research.

My computer tech has found no fix. what fix do you have for this. checking your site does nothing for a fix.

a Side issue, why can't stream TV programs just fine (it's good at that) but can not process some commercials'? On other commerciwent thru als it freezes completely & I need to start program over.

I've had a new laptop for about two months now and have tried numerous time to create a rescue disc.  Each time I try it I receive an error message: Error  Microsoft Windows Repair Disc has Stopped Working.

I have a Inspiron 15, 3000 Series

I am a refurbisher and rebuild computers for the disabled. I recently received 2 D800 laptop donations.One worked great right away including running Windows 7 Pro. The second system would run for a while and then shut down because of heat. I cleaned the heat sink of a bit of dust, but the fans would not run, except when powered up they (both) would jiggle, but neither would spin up. I have seen some BIOS settings that monitor heat, voltage and fan info, but not the A13 BIOS from Dell.

I finally located a piece of software that allow me to monitor the temperature and manually run the fans, either both or individually. (i8kfangui31.exe) It also allows me to automatically control the fans based on temperature, but when I apply that feature the fans stop running.

 Since I can, now, track the temperature and control the fans, the system runs fine. My question is if the computer detects hot enough temperature to shut the system down and the fans work just fine, why don't the fans work automatically?

My original dell adapter gave up finally after about 2-3 years of wear and tear and I had to buy a new one form the market, now the one I got seems okay, it came in a box with all the details about how it was manufactured for dell and all, but on the adapter I don't see a dell logo, well, not at least a proper logo there is Dell written on it but it is not as how it is on my original charger, so I am furnishing my details here and would really like to know if I have an original one or not. Also, it would be be great if you could advise if it is a compatible one for my Dell XPS L501X

I will walk away from my laptop dell E7240 for 5 minutes and it will go back to log in page. How do I change that setting. Also after a time it seems to go to sleep and knocks me off VPN connection during a web presentation if I do not interact with mouse during web conf. I have to use ctl alt del to log back in but then my VPN is gone. How do I extend the time the laptop stays active?

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 320gb hard drive that I purchased in August 2013.

It has been a great computer until last night.

I shut it down and later rebooted it.

It seemed normal until the wallpaper ( a photo of mine ) appeared as normal. The date and time was showing along with signal strength and battery strength.

None of my short cuts appeared and none of the keys on the key board work - at all.

I tried rebooting and hitting F8 to go to safe mode - nothing.

I tried a memory stick and a SD card but computer will not recognize anything.

Can any one give me an idea of what to do besides trash this computer?

I would go back to all factory defaults and lose my files if I could get access.

Like the title said, i had sent my laptop in for repairs knowing full well that the unit was discontinued so that they had limited parts for this type. The M17X - R2.
From the original purchase of this unit i have had issues with the video card, and mother board, and have had to send it in multiple times while i had a warranty, had to purchase an extended warranty, and then had to pay for the out of warranty departments coverage as to fix the reoccurring crashes and battery adapter issue, only to have issues come back three weeks after receiving it from the latest repair.
i was told that i can send the unit in for another free repair and that i would be refunded five to seven buissness days after i confirmed a refund. on the 17th of this month so a friday, i recieved my laptop back thinking i could use it without issues. open it up, and before i could turn it on i noticed that the metal frame that holds everything together was bent outward from its usual position. i tried to turn the computer on only to have it emidiatly crash on me. Rather annoyed i called into the out of warrenty department to be told that my file was marked as to not accept for another repair. saying that i had been told this before. Which i had not. i told the person on the line, after 3 hours of being transfered to different departments, that my computer only had crashing issues, and that the battery was not connecting to the adapter, and now the metal frame was warped out of shape, also that there were a lot of scratches on the screen. The employee told me that i could send it in again, and i would not get refunded the $350 or i just take the refund. In my head, i just sent this unit back, and received it with damages, what reassurance would i have that there wouldn't be any more issues in terms of them damaging the computer more, and then telling me "tough luck" like these gentle men did.
i spent a total of $3800 on this unit in total, and since i have gotten it back  i have still had reoccurring  issues, i don't know where i can go to get it fixed, and now i have even more issues than i had before sending it in. i don't want to be spending more money on something that should have been working fine, i don't travel with it because of all the issue that it had while i had the warranty, i make sure to clean it up as often as possible, Where can i go to find a solution for these problems. because I've had it with dell and its terrible services. 
out of warrenty refused to send me anywhere else, even refused me access to speak with their boss saying "yes my boss is in." and "No you may not speak with them". I'm an annoyed customer that has lost all faith in Dell, and would like for this computer to be fixed or replaced. This being my work computer makes making money just that much more difficult....  
any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

consistant crashes of the AMD video card
keyboard had a few keys broken after being sent into warranty repairs ( had to send it back for more repairs)
Metal frame bent away from the body of the computer.
rubber band for holding wire missing from adapter
scratches on screen after out of warranty repair return (they marked on the paper that there was damages when they received it, and i know for a fact there was not.)
Alien FX not responding
ports not working (all of them, USB,HD, Audio, Mic)

i just don't want my money wasted on something that really hasn't been working properly since purchase.

Purchased in October 2010, had a two year warranty, had to purchase another for $600, and then for $350 purchase an out of warranty repair service.

I have a Dell  Inspiron 15 3542  windows 8.1 that had touch and pen when I first received it ( around 4 months ago ).

After windows updates and Dell bios  Version A04 update my touch and pen no longer work.

In fact if I go to windows and look Touch and Pen  I see   (no pen or touch input is available for this display)

Also I have refreshed the laptop and  reinstalled windows and it still doesn't help.

 Anyone have this similar issue and has a fix ?   any help would be appreciated

My dell studio 1577 i3 stopped working since couple of days.  When I switch on the laptop,it gives 5 beeps and the screeen shows Press <F1> to resume,<F2> to setup.

When I press <F1> it reaches a screen whch says "Window failes to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause" and gives 2 options. Launch Windows startup repair(Recommended), Start Windows Normally.

When I select the first option which is repair, a progress bar appears which shows 'Windows files are copying" and then the screen goes blank for hours.  I dont think it is doing anything.

If I select second option,that is Start Windows normally. It shows 'Windows starting and then reached the first screen which says Press <F1>to resume, <F2> to setup.

I tried remoing battery and switching on the system,the system doesnt switch on.  I guess that means there is no static power left.  I put the battery back.  I dont have any peripherals attached to the laptop. 

The last day I had connected my HP Desktop printer and drivers were installed. But, the system was working fine for 2 days after that. I suspect if that is causing the issue.

Please someone help tp resolve this issue.

Windows has crashed and I am trying to reinstall it. When I go into boot options it only allows boot from HDD and Network. There are no other options to select rom. I am not sure if this a setting that can be changed in the BIOS or something. Please help
