Dell N5010 Windows says it is charging, but actually not

Hello,

I have an issue that I can't get my head around.

I have a Dell Inspiron N5010 with a genuine charger, and genuine battery. When I plug in the charger it is charging, at least the windows says that it is charging, but the battery percent is not going over 0% at all. I had it plugged in for a whole night and it still says 0%, and charging.

I have run the diagnostics on it, and the battery has passed. Bios is checked to be able to charge.

Please advice! Thanks!

USB 3.0 detection Problem : Inspiron 3542

Hi,

There is a problem detecting usb 3.0 devices in my 3542 (i7,non-touch variant) . If any other peripheral like headphone, usb mouse is attached , then it reports that You should attach the usb 3.0 device to usb 3.0 port, even though i am attaching to usb 3.0 port.

Although, if I remove all other peripherals , and only plugin the usb 3.0 device, then only it works properly .

What is causing this problem ? Software or Hardware!!

Increasing memory from 6GB to 12GB in Inspiron 15 3537

This laptop has an I5 processor running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, and with 6GB of memory (4GB in one slot and 2GB in the other).  It's used for general word processing, email, etc., but it is also used to run QuickBooks Pro 2014 which is where performance seems a bit slow (but not unacceptable).  I'm considering replacing the 2GB module with an 8GB one which would make the total memory 12GB and am trying to determine if this $75 investment will be of much help.

Thanks.

All of the sudden, when I boot up my Dell 5271, I get a message saying: this battery is temporarily disabled, please turn off the computer, reseat the ac adapter and try gain when the unit is back to operations temperature.  I can either F1 to continue or F2 to enter BIOS.  I have updated the BIOS, but that didn't change anything regarding the adapter and this message.  I also purchased a new battery, but am still getting the same message.  Help!

I've just aquired a Dell Inspiron 1545. It's running Windows 7 and has a Pentium Dual Core 2.3Ghz CPU with 4GB RAM.

The RAM is plenty for me but the CPU i think i could improve on... Can anyone tell me the top 3 CPU's for this model?

I can confirm this machine is running the latest A14 BIOS.

Thanks

Dell XPS M1730

Hello,

My dell XPS m1730 isn't booting and was wondering if I could get some help finding the exact component that needs replacing.

Firstly When turning the laptop on with the battery plugged in and no charger in nothing happens. When leaving the laptop charging for a few hours then trying this again still nothing happens. The battery doesn't appear to be charging. This isn't the major concern just something to take into account. Pressing the button on the side of the battery shows 1 dot flash green like it has slight power.

When turning the machine on with the power cable and battery plugged in it turns on; all lights come on: keyboard, track-pad, speakers, case lights, power indicator, battery charging indicator and Bluetooth indicator. The screen doesn't light up or appear to come on and there is no sound from fans at all and I can't see them spinning.

I have turned it on holding the D+power and the screen lights up grey and passes the screen test by the look of it.

Now, when turning it on holding the fn+power it starts by flashing the caps lock light for a few minutes. It then plays a little musical tone while flashing numlock to scroll lock one after each other. It then proceeds to play the beep codes. Yesterday the beep code appears to be 4-1-1. Today it seems to be 1-4-1. All three keys light up (caps, num and scroll lock). Looking at this I think it seems to be a motherboard problem.

Video Link to FN+power test (sorry its dark but you can see the lights flash and hear the beeps which is all you really need.)

(Please visit the site to view this video)

I've heard this type of laptop has a few problems with its GPU though so I proceeded to take out the GPU and try turning it on without it. It then has a constant scroll lock and the caps and num lock flash.

I have also tried re-seating the memory. I tried 1 stick in each slot and then the other stick in each slot. This changed nothing.

So my question is what is wrong with it? Is it the motherboard? Or is it more likely to be something else?

Venue 11 (and other tables) suggestion

I have a Venue 11 running Windows 8.1 on an i5 processor.  In other words, it's a real computer in a tablet form.  I have a suggestion to make the device a little better.  (And this could also apply to other tablets, too.)

Put a charging light on the case next to the power plug.  Right now, the only way you can tell if the device is actually charging (things do go wrong in the cabling between the wall and the device) is to turn it on and look at the battery indicator in the lower right hand corner.  Much of the time I use it on battery, and charge it when it's turned off.

Adding a little LED to the device would make it more user friendly, and the cost should be minimal.

Connecting an external USB hub to Dell XPS 502x

Has anyone ever successfully used an external USB Hub connected to XPS 502x?

I am running out of USB ports... 3 isn't enough for me.. (long story).

I tried a 4-port USB 2.0 Hub all three different ports and the devices (mostly portable hard drives) don't seem to work always.

Just wondering if there is something special I need to do. Thanks

So my M4800 just got bricked with A10 BIOS update

$

Downloaded the A10 BIOS update. Flashed from Windows. It appeared to have gone through OK: The computer rebooted, Windows started again, I kept working in Windows. All seemed fine.

I even ran a standard test suite from My Dell, and all passed.

Then, after a while, I thought I would take a look in the BIOS setup. Restarted the computer. At Dell white logo pressed F2, but the blue bar under the logo and the yellow text about entering the setup never disappeared.

Pressed the power button to switch the computer off.
From this moment, the computer, whenever switched on, hangs at the white round DELL logo. When I press some keys, like Enter, or F8, the blue bar appears but hangs at half-full. A white text in the corner then offers a boot menu if I press F12, but after I do press F12, the yellow text promising me a one-time boot menu never goes away, and there’s never a boot menu.

Is there any chance to do anything besides having the sorry thing serviced?
