Hello .. I have two problems but they might be linked; possibly a USB problem:
1/ External USB3 hard drive, I start a file transfer and it works for a few seconds; then it stalls; then maybe 10 seconds later it starts again, then a few seconds later it stalls .. sometimes the file transfers, occasionally the hard drive actually disconnects and reconnects - I have lost a file due to this problem. This is on large files, small files transfer before the stall occurs. The USB lead is new and in good condition. Any ideas?
2/ ASIO Soundcard via USB - it works but performance is not good - if I use a modern fairly intensive synth plugin I get crackling and popping - yet the task manager shows over half of the cpu & ram still available. This problem occurs with my M-Audio card, and also tested a Behringer card tonight and it does the same thing. Any ideas?
Could the two problems be linked by a common USB problem?
EDIT: I've tried both of these issues on my Dell desktop via USB3 and the problems do not happen, the hard drive works perfectly, and the soundcard works perfectly. But using my new laptop causes both problems - do I have a USB problem? I have emailed Dell support of-course.
So, USB3 hard drive plugged in directly, I start a transfer of a 800Mb file from the drive to the computer, it does about 400Mb at USB3 speed but then stops and waits for about 10 seconds, then it continues a bit and then stops again, then a little while later is continues and completes the transfer.
