The best thing of Inspiron 15z 5523

The best thing of Inspiron 15z is that the AC adapter doesn't get hot!

I even leave it on for 10 hours and the AC adapter stays cool. [:)] While my friend who has HP Envy says the Adapter gets so hot.

My Inspiron's Adapter only gets hot when I do heavy activity like playing Nintendo DS games or PC games but it still doesn't get so hot.

Is that because it is a Low voltage laptop?

Dell is cool. [Y]

But why the Fan blows so strong when I play a PC game like "Resident Evil Revelations" using the NVIDIA processor? [*-)]

It also blows when playing it using the Intel HD Graphics 4000 but not as strong as it when using the nVIDIA one I think.

E7240 not working with PR03X docking station

My Lattitude e7240 when docked onto the PR03X docking station, the power adapter that is plugged into the PR03X completely goes dead.  The only way I can reset the power is by unplugging and replugging the AC adapter FROM THE WALL.  Tried the spacer.   Tried double powering (1 adapter into the PR03X and another adapter into the e7240).  Also tried plugging the laptop on first without power, and when powering up the laptop, it would boot up 10x slower than normal and sometimes hang.  Also tried multiple other PR03X just to be sure the one i have is not faulty.  The same problem is repeatable.  The laptop has the latest BIOS.

It seems there is a power mismatch of some sort that would cause a) the adapter to fail, and then b) for the laptop to run extremely slow because of what???

Is the problem caused by a faulty docking port on the e7240?

I assume the PR03X is compatible to the e7240??

Anyone has this problem or resolution to it?

thanks,

Vincent

Vostro 3560: fan ide with PCH at 78°C

So here's the thing:

I've done the copper plate fix and installed HWiNFO64, and the removed the fix since it didn't prove to be all that efficient and I've come to notice that my laptop is running VERY HOT.

I am not doing any demanding processes or chores. I am merely browsing web. I have noticed that during critical times, the fan WON'T speed up and this causes the PCH diode and the rest of the components to become very hot.

If I watch video, the laptop might shut itself off.

Is there a way to restore the temp management tables? I've updated BIOS to A16 already and the fan seems to be very responsive at start up ONLY, but right now PCH diode shows 75°C and fan is doing 4800RPM.

One very common issue with this laptop is the extremely happy fan, coming on at almost anytime, and now I am getting worried about this behaviour because I am pretty certain it is diminshing my laptop's life.

Please assist me in learning how to restore proper fan working conditions.

Thank you.

Faulty XPS 14

Good morning everyone.

I have a Dell XPS 14 (L241x) laptop that I purchased around a year ago from an auction site using a registered payment system. The laptop has around a year left of its on-site next business day warranty left. I have been unable to transfer this to my name as I am no longer able to contact the previous seller and don’t have the required details to complete the warranty transfer request.

The laptop has recently developed a fault that makes it unusable. I have spoken with a multitude of Dell technical and support representatives to raise a support case or try to find some way to transfer the warranty into my name, but have not managed to do so.

I understand that there should be checks and procedures in place for both transferring warranties and raising support cases. However, the laptop is still under warranty (a warranty which would have added a good chunk to what would already have been a significant purchase price), and I can show evidence of my purchase and payment.

I am at the point now where I either need to get this fixed or buy a new laptop. Despite being a great fan of Dell laptops (this is my 6th, I’ve had a good run of the C, D and E series models), if I have to buy a replacement I will be looking elsewhere to do so.

Hi

Im looking to buy a laptop which needs to have at least an i7 processor and at least 2gb dedicated graphics memory, and at least 8 gb of ram. i am on a fairly low buget of around £800 so am looking at the damaged and refurbished outlet but the laptops never say what graphics cards they have unless they are an alienware, even though if you look at them on the store they have a graphics card. on the other hand because dell laptops are always customized etc i dont want to go ahead and get one and find out it doesnt have a graphics card. just want to know whether anyone knows why it doesnt say on the specs in the outlet.

Thanks

Inspiron 14 5000 Problems

$

About a month ago, in August, I bought a Dell Inspiron 14 5000 Laptop. I bought it mainly to play games on it, and alienware/XPS laptops were too expensive for me. So I got the laptop, and after downloading all the apps I wanted, I downloaded Steam, an application for buying and playing games. I then downloaded some games through steam, and 3 of those games worked fine (Those games are XCOM: Enemy Unknown, Company of Heroes, and Rome: Total War). But after that, all the other games (Killing Floor, Total War: Shogun 2, Mount and Blade, and more) I tried to run on the laptop would freeze the entire laptop at seemingly random times, and the only way to "stop" it would be to force quit the laptop and restart it. I've tried to run these games on compatibility mode, as my first impression was that they simply weren't compatible with my OS, Windows 8.1, but all the games still did the same thing. Then I tried running Steam as an administrator, thinking it may be a thing with that. The games still don't work...

So now I have no idea what could possibly be wrong. I don't know if it's a Steam thing or if it's my operating system, or if it's my laptop's hardware (The Inspiron 14 5000's hardware should run all the listed games just fine). Can someone help me please, if they know what's wrong? I'm considering sending the laptop back to Dell to take a look at it, but if anyone can help me that'd be great.

Inspiron 1525 laptop, not charging, loose hinges, and erratic keyboard repair notes

$

This laptop worked 100% for several years before this incident.

I spilled a small amount of red juice on the keyboard. While I was picking up the laptop to move it away from papers, it shut down abruptly. I decided to remove & clean the keyboard. In doing so it became obvious that liquid had also dripped down onto the internals, and my very loose hinges needed attention, so I decided to completely disassemble, clean & fix these issues.

Disassembly may take an hour, but is still easier than some other models. All the parts and videos needed can still be found at parts-people.com

The hinges had become very stiff, and the mounting screws had loosened over time. As a result of the extra force, one of the plastic hinge mounts had broken off from the screen backshell. I ordered new hinges, but they did not look as well made, so I put the old hinges in a vice and loosened the hinge spring nut very slightly and oiled the hinge. I found that for the hinge to work properly, it will be so stiff you can just barely move it with your bare hands. Any looser will be too loose.

I repaired the broken plastic boss in the backshell by gluing it with black ABS pipe glue. This fuses the plastic, and is probably the strongest repair short of buying a new backshell.

When I removed the motherboard, I found the CPU heat sink clogged with lint, so I cleaned it. There still was red juice puddled under some ICs, so I sprayed it repeatedly with electronics cleaner and reinstalled it. After that a new problem appeared, the common 'battery not charging' problem. I had two working chargers and a fully charged battery, and it booted from either, so I could tell it was either the DC power jack issue or the motherboard. In taking it apart again, I was not careful and was sure I had damaged the motherboard. I picked up a brand new one including the DC jack for around $55.

I swapped the CPU and memory, and after reassembly it powered up once I reseated the memory properly.

After these steps, the hinges and charging worked properly but the keyboard had just a few keys that behaved erratically. There is a post about adding some scotch tape to make the flex connector hold more tightly to the KB flex cable. I tried that but it did not seem to be the issue. I removed the keyboard and used half a bottle of isopropal alcohol to repeatedly soak and flush the keyboard keys & pan. There is a lip around the pan so I simply filled it up, worked all the keys repeatedly, and poured out the
liquid. Lots of red juice residue flushed out. I drained the keyboard and dried it upside down for a couple of days. It is a sandwich of plastic and metal pieces and there are lots of places to trap liquid, so it does take awhile to dry out, even for alcohol. I would not use water.

After reassembly, the KB worked 100% again.

Keep backlight permanently on Dell XPS 13 9333

So, I've been experiencing an unusual coil whine issue, where it only makes the high-pitched noise when the backlight is off.

Is there a way to keep the keyboard permanently on so that it does not turn off automatically after about 30 seconds? This would be really good for home use so I don't keep having to press something on the keyboard every 30 seconds to avoid the annoying noise.

Thanks,

Alessandro

XPS1702x Battery or Charger

$

My laptop is dead. the blue ring on the end of the charger has been flashing when plugged into the laptop. I checked battery health and it said is was operating fine. I unplug the charger from the laptop and the ring stays solid blue.

The battery shows one light when I take it out and press the button..I've got it plugged into a older less powerful charger just to gt access to it but I don't know if it's the battery that's failed or the charger... and I also got a message now saying my Windows 7 build 7601 is not genuine....How can this be? I bought it right from Dell a couple of years ago.

But first things first.. is it my battery that needs replacing or the charger?

Thanks for any help
