hello guys... i have a dell inspiron 15R 5521 laptop....i currently have windows 8.1 64 bit running on my machine....i want to try the new windows 10 preview...but for that i have to dual boot my system by installing it on the other partition or install it on any partition using vhd or lastly use virtualbox....i went with the first option...so i prepared the bootable usb drive and booted it....but when selecting where to install the os the partition which i selected wasn't getting accepted...it showed the error that the disk is of gpt partition style so it can't be installed....since i can't change the disk partiton to mbr without deleting all the partitions i tried 2nd option which is more convenient...so i created a vhd (virtual hard disk) of 100 gb using the disk mnagement utlity of windows....and then i booted the usb drive....then i used the commnd prompt to select the vdisk file using disk part utility....it got selected successfully....but then when i select it to install and when i click next it show the error "windows cannot be installed on the location u selected. please check ur media drive...error 0x80300024"... things i have tried 1.changed the disk mode in the bios from ahci to ata no progress. 2. formatted the vhd file with ntfs and exfat file system....no progress 3. converted the vhd from mbr to gpt...both method doesn't work 4. tried to install in both uefi as well as legacy modes.still no sucess.. Note: i tried the os in virtuakbox and its working..thanku.

Dell Inspiron 15r SE 7520 - Won't Power Up -
Hi,
I have a Dell Inspiron 15R Special Edition 7520 that i bought a year ago. I left it to charge (battery had about 10 % and the laptop was still on) before going to sleep and today morning the laptop is off. Pressed the power button to wake it up from hibernation (if at all it hibernated) but it won't power up. Also the power adaptor light goes off when I connect to it.
Already tried the few things that are suggested in internet forums.
1. Take battery out ....
2. Use another power adaptor ...
3. Press the laptop power button for 15 seconds ...
but all has failed so far.
I have two other dell laptops and all the other dell power adaptors showed the same problem - the power adaptor light goes off as soon as i connect to this laptop.
Any information how to solve this problem will be really appreciated

I have just got my Dell Inspirion 15r with intel i7 that turbo boosts to 3.0 and graphic card amd radeon with 2gb.
Can I turn off graphic card and use integrated intel hd 4400, to save battery life?
How to turbo boost processor? I read that it should do it automatically, but it doesn't go over 1.8ghz.
Any help?

Inspiron 15 7000 desktop gets stuck
Hello my laptop is just over a week old, sometimes the desktop gets stuck you can still move the mouse but that is all for a few minute, you can still press the windows key and that works but when you click for something to open and it switches to desktop its still the same and stick stuck, getting the task manager up doesn't work either as when the box opens it then becomes stuck also. Can anyone help

Dell Vostro 2510 Bios.
I recently purchased used Dell Vostro 2510 from an estate sale. The owner passed away. I upgraded it to Windows 8 but I am unable to get into the bios setup. It is asking for a password. I opened the notebook and unplugged the battery for a few minutes but it did not reset the password. What can I do?

Dell Inspiron N5110 passes all diagnostics but freezes
The system passes all diagnostics : Dell Diagnostics (quick & full), Dell Pre-Boot Diagnostics, AIDA64 System Stability Test (1h), Gold Memory & MemTest 86, Furmark, Prime95, basically anything you throw at it. The freezes occur usually during normal operation : browsing the web, browsing the hard drive, downloading files using your browser. The biggest number of freezes occurred after a fresh install of Windows 7 and using Firefox/IE to download the Nvidia drivers.
Steps taken :
- Updated BIOS from A9 to A11;
- Installed fresh Windows 7;
- Upgraded nvidia drivers from 288 to 344;
- Upgraded Intel Centrino Wireless driver;
- Upgraded power adapter from 90W to 130W;
- Used system without battery;
- Used system with Intel HD Graphics disabled, then with nVidia graphics disabled;
- Formatted hard drive;
- Installed Windows 8.1
And despite all this, it still freezes randomly. There is no BSOD, no nothing. The hard drive just stops, the mouse cursor stops and the laptop does nothing. Please help me with this issue. I have provided full windows logs. They are small since the windows instalation is 1h old. Please let me know if you need anymore info and I will try to get it ASAP.

I have a Dell Inspiron 3721 laptop that will not power on. I've tried all the recommended trouble-shooting tips that I've found (removed/reinserted the battery, tried to power up without battery, etc) - nothing works. My warranty expired in June of 2013. HELP!

Pixel flickering issue.
I had been facing this issue from last april. And i am totally frustrated with this issue. This always keep on occuring when i set my screen to highest resolution.

How many times can I use my Warranty to repair a product?
Hi. My computer, which I just got yesterday, keeps having problems when i turn it on but the computer screen stays dark. I will be sending my computer in for repair at dell. Is there a limited amount of times in which I may use this warranty? Also, is it possible to cancel the already placed box shipment and have a technical member from dell repair my computer on site?

Laptop wont turn on
Hi I have dell insprion 1545 for 4 yrs now but not used it frequently. First my charger stopped working so got nrewwon but would only work when on the mains so I got a new battery aswell. Know it just doesn't work at all. Charger lights up when on mains so I guess that works just got new battery but laptop completely dead pls help not very clever with laptops!!!

Inspiron 3537 soo many problems
So I bought a dell inspiron 3537 5 months ago with these specs:
-Intel i5-4200U 1.6Ghz
-AMD Radeon HD 8670m 1gb
-Intel HD Family
-Windows 8 64-bit
-Seagate ST500LT012-1DG142 500gb
-4GB Ram
From the day I bought its been nothing but problems. There is a whole list of them
1) Ever since I bought it the hard drive has been making soooooo much noise I can't sleep while the laptop is on. I know it is the hard drive because it is coming from the right hand side of the laptop and I had disabled both the optical and dvd drives and the noise was still there. I have run every test that I have found, I have used bios diagnostics CLEAN, SeaTools full scan CLEAN, Speedfan's SMART test CLEAN again, have defraged it as well and nothing works. Even with headpholes on and while gaming I can hear it making noise, it's driving me crazy. And the noise happens all the time, not just when running demanding games, even when watching youtube videos or listening to music it is super loud. It's been like that from the start, but I am on the verge of losing my sanity because of this. I have set it to be idle after 20 minutes of inactivity but apparently that doesn't do anything either. The sound is like a static noise, I can't really explain it but it is very obnoxious. Sometimes it gets really high pitched as well.
2)Since the day I bought it, sleep and hibernation mode and sometimes even shut down don't work. I can't even turn off the display. The screen just goes black but it still works, the lights are on, and I can hear it working but I cant turn the display back on ever. I have to keep pressing the power button to shut down and start again. I have tried uninstalling the amd drivers and the intel drivers and install the ones from the dell site, but they are really outtdated and don't even work.
3)Another problem I had but was fixed was that my charger was not recognised but I contacted dell and they sent me a replacement one. The thing is, though, sometimes when I stop playing a game I come back to the desktop only to see that there is no charger connected. I unplug it and plug it in again and it shows the charger for 1 sec and then it disappears. The only temporary fix I have found is removing the battery and then putting it back on (I have the battery plugged at all times because I have been terrified the charger will stop working again like before) but the problem comes back after a few days.
4)Every time I would run windows media player, my dvd tray would flash and beep for no reason. After I run an update from the dell site the beeping also happened when starting up and closing games. I had to use system restore to undo that. The only thing I have found to stop the beep when I run wmp is disabling the dvd driver from device manager (PLDS DVD+-RW DU-8A5HH). I have tried uninstalling and then scanning for hardware changes in device manager but it didn't work, I have to keep it disabled if I don't want it to beep all the time.
5)I've also had many other issues with dell updates. The first and worst was after an update that dell recommended, I restarted the computer and entered my password only to be greeted by the error message: The user can't be found or something like that. In other words I lost everything. I had to use legacy boot and reinstall windows to gain access to my computer again. Another bad update caused my startup to take much longer and the screen to be black after the welcome message for a few secs before loading my wallpaper and shortcuts and also every time I shut down my laptop the screen goes black then lights up again for a few secs and then finally shuts down.
There are no words for this, honestly buying this laptop was the worst decision I have ever made. I was so happy to have an upgrade from my old laptop but now I just want to throw this one out the window and keep the old one. I was sure I wouldnt have such issues since my dad has a dell laptop that is like 10 years old and it had no problem. Turns out that laptop works better than this one. I really need some help on this one, I wanted to contact dell but I keep waiting on the phone for hours if noone can help I can only hope they will answer sometime and send me a replacement laptop, otherwise I will stop paying for it. And before you ask my laptop is fully clean of viruses and everything, have run windows defender's as well as avira's and malwarebytes' anti-malware full scans and they all came back clean. Also run dell's full diagnostics and everything came up clean, I have no idea why everything comes up clean when something is clearly wrong with it.

Dell Inspiron 17R - Upgrading from 6 cell to 9 cell battery
I am looking at upgrading a Dell Inspiron 17R from a 6 cell battery to a 9 cell battery, for longer battery life. (1) can it be done and (2) if it can, does Dell have an OEM or do I need to obtain it from a third party supplier?

Losing free space?
About 5 weeks ago, I put a Dell SSD Racer, 240 (actually 233) Gig into my laptop account my old drive was failing. I also added more RAM, now have 8 Gig.
But, here is my problem: I used 70 Gig reinstalling my programs, leaving me with about 160 Gig of free space. I am a stickler about putting programs on the drive just to use space-I like my drives clean, and lean. I was also told that I no longer needed a defragger or cleaner because of Trim being installed. I did check and found that Trim was activated. So, I got rid of my cleaner and defragger.
Today, I just happened to check my drive to see the available space showing. What I found was that I had only 66 Gig of space left and I had added nothing since I reinstalled my programs. I should have around 160 Gig of free space showing. Where did that space go?
I just downloaded my old cleaner to clean and see if that would make a difference, but after cleaning, it could only come up with 70 Gig of free space all together. I only gained about 4 Gig of space?
Can someone tell me where or how the SSD dropped all that free space?

VT-x enable on Inspiron 14z (5423)

I have i7-3517u version of Inspiron 14z (5424) which supported VT-x

When I try to use software which require VT-x It say that I haven't enable VT-x in BIOS but there is NO VT-x option in BIOS!! (I'm on Latest BIOS Version : A13 and Virtualization Enable in BIOS).
How can I enable this option? Do I have to wait for NEW BIOS?

Does anyone know how to enable the touchscreen on an Inspiron 14R 5421?
My daughter bought an Inspiron 14R 5421 with a touchscreen last year. The hard drive died just after the warrantee expired. I downloaded all of the drivers and rebuilt the system with a new drive. Everything worked fine except the touchscreen. It didn't work at all. There was no sign in the device manager that it even existed. I called Dell support and they sent me Windows and drivers disks. I just rebuilt the system again with the same results. I called Dell again and they won't help unless I pay them. The guy did said that I only need to set up the touchscreen and no driver is needed. I can't find anything on the Dell support site that says anything about how to set up the touchscreen.
My family has been buying Dells for 15 years but after a couple Vostros that overheated and this stupidity, we may not be buying Dells much longer.
