The fan noise in my Inspiron N5010 has been driving me crazy, so I took it apart (carefully) to inspect and clean the fan if necessary.

Upon reassembling (of course), now it won't boot up.  When pressing the power button, it blinks once as does the left of the three LEDs at the bottom left of the front panel.  Nothing beyond that initial single blink.  I have tried with and without the battery, held the power button for 45 sec without either, nothing seems to help.

I have checked and rechecked all of the ribbon cable connectors.  The black "clamp" on the one from the power switch came off but I was able to reinstall it. QUESTION: the ribbon goes UNDERNEATH the four prongs, correct?  It won't stay put unless installed that way.

After the fact I noticed that the mini-screwdriver I used to remove the various parts was magnetized.  Not ideal, but would this cause such a problem?

Appreciate any guidance.

Hopefully this is in the right forum. I've got a broken leg/kickstand on my XPS18, and Dell support has been less than useless. My computer is under warranty, but so far support has linked me to Amazon and eBay items that are rubber feet, told me the part isn't available, or keeps transferring me to other departments. I was hung up on when I asked to talk to a supervisor. 

I've use Dell computers at work for the last 12 years, and have had good support when I needed it with my business account. I no longer work at that company, so I've used personal support, and I'm beyond frustrated. After 2 online chats, and several hours of getting bounced around to different departments, I'm hoping someone can point me to a good contact number in the US that can actually look up a part that is very easy to replace, but I can't find it on after market parts sites. i would rather use a Dell part anyway.

Black screen after dell splash with blinking cursor but F12 and F2 doesn't work.  i have taken devices out and tried but it will not go into setup.  I've seen a lot of these posts but never a solution that works.  should i take the cmos battery out for a bit to see if it'll reset and go into the bios setup?  thanks...Bill

Why does my Inspiron 15 (M5010) turn on, beep 7 times, and then turn off again? It was working perfectly fine just a couple hours ago but it was frozen so I turned it off and back on like usual, but this time it wouldn't turn on. Instead, it made the little whirring noise that says it's turning on and then it just beeped 7 times and cut off. What's going on?

Hello,

This is with regards to my product: Inspiron 17(N7010), which I purchased in May, 2011.

Since past a few months, my Laptop often shuts down anytime while working and everything is lost.

Following are few events from the Log, which are marked as Critical or Error or Warnings:

• Your computer was not assigned an address from the network (by the DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address 0x8CA9820AA351.  The following error occurred: 0x79. Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server.

• The IP address lease 192.168.1.6 for the Network Card with network address 0x8CA9820AA350 has been denied by the DHCP server 192.168.1.1 (The DHCP Server sent a DHCPNACK message).

• The Application Host Helper Service encountered an error trying to access the root history directory 'C:\inetpub\history'.  The directory either doesn't exist or the permissions on it don't allow the history service to access it. The config history feature is disabled for now and will be re-enabled after the issue is resolved. To resolve this issue, please ensure that the directory exists and that the Administrators group have read and write access to it.  The data field contains the error number.

• Custom dynamic link libraries are being loaded for every application. The system administrator should review the list of libraries to ensure they are related to trusted applications.

• Audit events have been dropped by the transport.  0

• Session "Microsoft Security Client OOBE" stopped due to the following error: 0xC000000D

• The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

• The speed of processor 0 in group 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for 14803 seconds since the last report.

• The content source <SharePointWorkspaceSearch://{S-1-5-21-1277126615-1548731931-3261768535-1001}/> cannot be accessed. Context:  Application, SystemIndex Catalog. Details: A server error occurred. Check that the server is available.  (HRESULT : 0x80041206) (0x80041206)

• The IP address lease 192.168.1.4 for the Network Card with network address 0x8CA9820AA350 has been denied by the DHCP server 192.168.1.1 (The DHCP Server sent a DHCPNACK message). 

• Name resolution for the name talkgadget.google.com timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded.

• Name resolution for the name dns.msftncsi.com timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded.

• Name resolution for the name chat.facebook.com timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded.

• The IP address lease 192.168.1.5 for the Network Card with network address 0x8CA9820AA350 has been denied by the DHCP server 192.168.1.1 (The DHCP Server sent a DHCPNACK message).

• The IP address lease 192.168.1.6 for the Network Card with network address 0x8CA9820AA350 has been denied by the DHCP server 192.168.1.1 (The DHCP Server sent a DHCPNACK message).

This issue is really paining a lot. Can anyone please suggest me a solution.

I recently had a fresh install on Win 8.1 on my computer.  I downloaded and installed Dell Backup and Recovery.  I went through the process and rebooted as requested. Afterwords it went on for and hour and a half installing itself while stating that it was creating a base image.  I never got past 47% and even seems to have restarted itself when the percentage dropped back to 22%. I finally gave up and shut it down. Today I started the app from the Start menu and it stated that it was finalizing the launch of the app.  This went on for and hour after which I killed the process and uninstalled it. What is going on? I supposed I can used other apps but this is crazy.

Hi,

I have an Dell Inspiron 14 (7000 series, 7437) and every time I wake up the laptop from sleep the keyboard illumination turns on. I would like to know if there is any way to avoid this or to put a timeout on the illumination so it turns off after a while.

I have there is a tool called Feature Enhancement Pack that has this options but is not available for Inspiron laptops.

When i open my laptop and my fingers put pressure on the glass at the top of the screen it moves and clicks in a manner consistent with it not being glued down to chassis.  It does it worst around the webcam bit, is this typical as it has been backto dell but now seems worse. Thanks

I have a 17R done some rooting around the internet and found out it has 2 graphics cards one is a *** Intel one, and the 2th is a Nvidia GT 525 which is actually a fairly decent graphics card can run BF 3 on good settings at like 40fps from what I saw on YouTube. Yet by the seams of it my games are running off the *** Intel card I only manage 20fps when running battlefield 4 on ultra low settings and don't get me started when I try to record with Banicam

I am having trouble with the latest version of Photoshop crashing as soon as I open the application. Adobe have suggested it is because I do not have the latest Intel HD Graphics 4000 drivers. 

However, the latest available drivers on the dell website for my xps 13 laptop are 9.17.10.3062, yet on the Intel website it is 10.18.xx.xxxx.

My laptop will only allow me to update with the dell drivers, so I'm stuck, as dell have not updated theirs since May 2013.

I purchased Insipron in the USA. Eventually I moved to India and had to log a request for issue I started facing with the laptop which is still under warranty.

India support kept the laptop with them for almost 3 months just to confirm that they can not handle it from India and it has to be done in the USA only as it was purchased there.

Please advise.

i notice following problems nw

1. a line on my display monitor
2. overheating
3. graphic card nt wrking properly
4. mouse pointer get stuck often
5. while typing pointer moves to the begining randomly

Hello,

2 years ago I bought an Alienware M14X laptop. It was working perfectly for 12 months (mostly for gaming) and then... dead. 7 beeps and black screen, no boot, etc (a usual problem which means cpu or motherboard failure). 

I know that the usual is to send it for motherboard replacement but I didn't (I heard that it takes time for this and it is not sure to work perfectly after the replacement, so I decided just to buy another laptop from dell, which works perfectly). . 

All this time the laptop inactive in my office. Two months before, I tried again to switch it on and, yes it worked without any problem!!! It just worked without had to do anything all this time. The date and hour were reseted (1/1/2009 when i opened it). After that, the laptop was working fine for 20 days (heavy gaming use) and then I had an unexpected shut down (accidentally I removed the plug while working without battery). When I tried to opened again, the 7 beeps death appeared again. I tried holding the start button for the seconds needed but nothing happened. So, I left it again inactive. After 25-30 days inactive (yesterday) I tried again to open it. And it works fine once again without needed to do anything else!!! The date was reseted again (1/1/2009). And today (what a shame) I did the same mistake to unplug the power and the 7 beeps dead screen problem appeared again.

I'm not experienced programmer at all, but my conlusion is that it is not possible to have a pemanent problem with the hardware. It works fine when it works... But it can't work everytime it has an unexpected shut down and if then I don't leave it inactive for a couple of weeks. 

I'm searching the web all the morning about this and how I can resolve it without changing the motherboard and I can't find a similar case.

What is your opinion about this? Any suggestions-questions which could help me to solve the problem? Thank you in advance!

Hello,

I own a Latitude E6420 laptop that came with the standard keyboard. I purchased a backlit keyboard online but the lights will not turn on and the Fn + right arrow doesnt do anything.

I know that you have to enable it in the BIOS but I dont have the option. Is it possible to install another version of the BIOS with the backlit feature? I really would like to get this to work.

When using the touchpad, the cursor will occasionally/frequently jump to the bottom left corner of the screen and so I accidentally keep openng up the windows start menu. I reinstalled the touchpad driver and this has had no impact. I have had this issue since I bought the laptop at the end of 2013.
